Bug#266232: xserver-xfree86: xfree86 ATI server crashes for all xvideo -- need to backport fix to sarge

2004-08-16 Thread Mark Montague
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4
Severity: important
Tags: patch

I don't know how to re-open the original bug for this, so I'm opening a new
one. I apologize if this is not the best way to address this problem, but it
seems very desirable to get this into the queue of release-critical sarge
bugs. See bug #251307 for the full description and patch to fix. Andreas
Metzler suggested re-opening this bug on debian-x (see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2004/08/msg00083.html), but doesn't seem
to have followed up, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some
incarnation of it as a sarge problem into the BTS.

thanks

Bug#266074: xlibs-dev: dependency problem with several other X library packages

2004-08-16 Thread Dan Chiavelli
Package: xlibs-dev
Severity: important

I think the dependencies have gotten messed up for xlibs-dev... all of
the dependent packages are off by one minor version number. Please
pardon the copious output, but it describes the problem much better than
I can:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] apt-get install xlibs-dev
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

But that is what should be done. Policy says that if you use non-standard
start/stop levels, you have to discuss that with the sysvinit maintainer.
Nobody appears to do that. Bootlogd is part of sysvinit, so it's start/stop
level has been discussed with the maintainer, so it is correct. All the
others are incorrect.

i for one use 'kdm -debug 7 -nodaemon' for relatively obvious reasons.

indeed, with +sm it does not spin any more. but it does not change
anything.

for the hell of it, suddenly i can't fully reproduce the problem any
more. the xterm is still black, but it does accept keyboard input, and
after i ctrl-c'd kdm, things seem to be back to normal. ?-}
