Bug#275473: xterm's cursor appears as black rectangle when positioned on EOL

I can reproduce something like this with #194, but not with #193.
I'm guessing it was something that was uncovered by this change:

   Patch #194 - 2004/7/27 - XFree86 4.4.99.11

 * change clearing operations so foreground color attribute is not
set. Usually this is benign, but in some cases when the cursor
color is not set explicitly, the cursor would show this color
   (Debian #252873, #260471).

(If the cursor color is set explicitly, no problem is seen - I usually
have my cursor set to lime green).

Bug#276983: xserver-xfree86: nv locks up with bpp 24

2004-10-17 Thread Gabor Melis
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Severity: normal

With depth 24 nv often locks up. When this happens the XFree86 process
takes up all of the CPU until it's killed from an ssh session (the rest
of the system remains in good condition). When it's killed (-9) one can
log in again from kdm.

To trigger the bug I open two overlapping windows and alt-tab between
them. It happens even if all modules are commented out like below. When
X is started in bpp 16 or the NoAccel option is given all works fine.

Bug#252895: X_OpenFont out of range

2004-10-17 Thread Joaquim Ortega Cerdà
I am experiencing the same problem when I do start nedit. It crashes with
error
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
  Value in failed request: 0x3800019
Serial number of failed request: 96
Current serial number in output stream: 97
On the other hand xfontsel seems to work nicely with only 8150 names matching.
I do have msttcorefonts installed on an updated sarge system. Changing
LC_ALL=C didn't help.
Best regards,
Joaquim

Bug#276933: Debian configuration should always ask for monitor physical size

2004-10-17 Thread Paul Pogonyshev
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Severity: minor

When using ``advanced'' mode of configuring monitor, the configuration
script (`dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86') doesn't ask for monitor
physical size. Because of this, I had very small default fonts. While
they are configurable in most places, this is still annoying and, for
instance, font size at login screen is not configurable (to the best of
my knowledge.)

As a workaround, I manually added ``DisplaySize ...'' string in
`/etc/X11/XF86Config-4'.

I suggest that Debian configuration asks for monitor size in addition
to vertical and horizontal sync frequency.

Bug#273571: xserver-xfree86: Widescreen important for laptops

2004-10-17 Thread Michael Shields
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Followup-For: Bug #273571

I think this bug is much more than a wishlist item, as widescreen
laptops are now a large and fast-growing share of the market. According
to , they were
36.6% of US retail sales in August 2004.

The 1280x854 mode should be offered in debconf's list of proposed video
modes.
