Bug#322284: x11-common: dbus provides a session since 2004

2005-08-10 Thread Marc Wilson
Package: x11-common
Followup-For: Bug #322284

Apparently dbus has provided a session bus for X since Feb of 2004, as
detailed in:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-changes/2004/02/msg00194.html

Anyone know whether Debian's xorg is suddenly going to inherit a dbus
dependency? It'd be a show-stopper for allowing it to install, if it
does.

Bug#322253: same bug in sarge

2005-08-10 Thread Pär Andersson
I also have a local multi-user setup like Helge and use evdev for that
reason. However I didn't know about the evdev keyboard driver before
and always modified the XFree86 source package with another patch for
my second keyboard. I started using the evdev driver when I upgraded
to X.Org. I send this followup since I noticed that the same evdev
driver is in Sarges XFree86 package. Should I send a bug against
xserver-xfree86 also?

Btw it is really nice that the X.Org package includes everything
necessary for local multiuser X (IsolateDevice, novtswitch, sharevts,
evdev). As soon as this evdev bug is fixed in the real package I won't
have to rebuild the source package myself anymore. :-)

/Pär

downtime expected on necrotic.deadbeast.net (SVN repo host)

2005-08-10 Thread Branden Robinson
Hi folks,

I'm expecting to bring Subversion services down on necrotic at some point
soon, possibly this evening.

Now that there's a known fix for bug #314381[1], I have successfully built
and used a patched Subversion 1.2.0-1 package for client-side operations
against the XSF repositories.

I now plan to build, install, and test patched 1.2.0-1 packages on
necrotic, and if I find no problems, dump and restore the xfree86 and
xorg-x11 repositories to get them using xdelta compression exclusively (see
the Subversion 1.2 release notes[2] for why).

Please watch this list for mails announcing the actual beginning of
downtime, and notice of service restoration (or problems, but
hopefully there won't be any of those). I'm hoping the outage won't last
more than an hour.

#314381 was a showstopper for me and was the only thing keeping me from
upgrading to Subversion 1.2 on necrotic. Those who have already upgraded
their clients should see performance improvements[3] due to various
optimizations in 1.2 as well as the new xdelta compression method.

[1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=314381
[2] http://subversion.tigris.org/svn_1.2_releasenotes.html
[3] But don't expect the world, poor necrotic is only a 300 MHz UltraSPARC
II with 256MB of RAM. Starting to live up to its name, I think... :)

Bug#24192: H0t penny pick fueled by high demand wearing

2005-08-10 Thread Candi Chu

Insiders Pick Of The Week- ORTE .Pk

Company: Oretech, Inc.
Ticker: ORTE . Pk
Current-Price: .57
52Wk High: 1. 60
Estimated 3-5 Day target: 1.10+
Estimated-6months-target: 2.32

Oretech Announces Cost Effective and Environmentally
Friendly Method of Extracting Oil from Tar Sand.

Oretech, Inc. (ORTE . Pk - News) announced
that the company is in the final stage of an agreement
to obtain a limited license for a newly developed
method of extracting oil from Tar Sand while being
extremely environmentally friendly.

Could the price per barrel of oil be radically reduced?
Could the US significantly reduce its dependency on oil
imports?

H. Stephen Shehane, CEO of Oretech, believes that the
solution exists now that will enable the US to utilize
its own resources and reduce dependency on foreign energy
sources. Shehane stated some of the highlights of this
unique proprietary system:

-The proprietary system utilizes an unconventional heat
 source

-No depletion of precious natural gas or coal reserves

-No polluted water or chemicals are released into the
 environment

-The small amounts of water used in processing remain in
 a closed system

-Requires no chemical catalysts

-Extremely low consumption of electrical energy

-Recent tests, consistently extracted higher percentages
of bitumen than published extraction ratios from any
 other extraction method

-Environmentally friendly

-The ability of the proprietary technology to also be
used in refining crude oil is an additional potential
 benefit

Shehane believes that this proprietary system could
rapidly revolutionize the present known systems for
extraction of oil from tar sand and help reduce US
dependency on foreign oil imports while significantly
reducing the cost per barrel of oil and avoiding
pollution of the environment.

Oretech, Inc. has developed a proof of concept model
that represents a breakthrough in oil extraction from
Tar Sand processing technology. Its business model is
to be a leading edge developer and licensor of
proprietary innovative technology that reduces the cost
of extraction of noble metals (Gold/Silver/ Platinum/
Titanium) and energy resources (Oil Extraction from
Tar-Sand and Shale). Focusing on reducing pollution
of the environment, Oretech is known for its
breakthrough materials processing technology, which
extracts specific minerals from diverse feedstock and
raw materials without the use of harmful chemicals or
the emission of environmentally unsafe gases. For full
details and links to all the company's products and
services.

These days I am using a custom 2.6.11 kernel (I'll attach the .config)
and I'm not sure if I have exactly the same setup as before. I think I
had APM before, and acpi now. With xserver-xorg 6.8.2.dfsg.1-3.

1) I can't seem to duplicate the lcd-off w/o suspend by shutting the
lid. Maybe it just comes on really fast. In any case no symptoms.

2) I tried manually shutting off the display with
vbetool dpms suspend
turning it back on with
vbetool dpms on
also no symptoms.

3) If I suspend using
echo mem > /sys/power/state
then bringing the system back up (using the fn key) gives a blank
screen. The screen can be unblanked by
chvt 1; chvt 7
"vbetool dpms on" does nothing here.

Maybe this is a different bug?

I hope some of this helps,

David

Hello,
thanks for the pointer, this basically works as I thought it would,
comparing every no-longer-shipped conffile with the known md5sum of
the previous release nd removing it, if this is the case.

BTW is thee a reason why you do not use remove_conffile* as their
describig comments suggest:

remove_conffile_prepare () {
  # Check a conffile "filename" against a list of canonical MD5 checksums.
  # If the file's current MD5 checksum matches one of the "official_md5sum"
  # operands provided, then prepare the conffile for removal from the system.
  # We defer actual deletion until the package is configured so that we can
  # roll this operation back if package installation fails.

but instead invoke both _prepare and _commit in xlibs' preinst?

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
gcc -o xmonisdn -g -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -L/usr/X11R6/lib xmonisdn.o Net.o
-lXaw -lXmu -lXt -lSM -lICE -lXpm -lXp -lXext -lX11 -lselinux -lm
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lselinux
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

This seems to be caused by a missing build dependency on
libselinux1-dev.

Kurt

Package: xutils
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-3
Severity: serious

the xisdnutils imake run in isdnutils/xmonisdn generates:

   SELINUX_LDFLAGS =

   SELINUX_INCLUDES = -I/usr/include/selinux

   SELINUX_CFLAGS =  -DHAVE_SELINUX

   SELINUX_LIBS = -lselinux

Is this intended? There's nothing why xmonisdn would need selinux.
Looks like this leeds to many FTBFS for packages.

Maybe xutils should depend on some selinux package?

groff fails to build because it cannot find libselinux:

gcc -m32 -o gxditview -g -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -L/usr/X11R6/lib =
xditview.o Dvi.o draw.o font.o lex.o page.o parse.o XFontName=

make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/groff-1.18.1.1/src/xditview'

The attached patch adds a build-dependency on libselinux1-dev, which
fixes this problem.

Package: xlibs-dev
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2
Severity: serious

The current version of xlibs-dev is not fully backwards-compatible with
previous versions built from xfree86, because in the xorg tree a number of
packages have been split out of the xlibs-static-dev package, e.g.,
libxxf86vm-dev. Packages that previously had a build-dependency on
xlibs-dev only now FTBFS; if the intention is to break backwards
compatibility, I think it would be better to drop the xlibs-dev package
altogether, otherwise these libs should be re-added to the dependencies of
xlibs-dev.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the new version of x:
checking for Xinerama... no
[...]
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXinerama

It looks like you atleast need to add a build dependency on
libxinerama-dev.

That makes the linking work, but configure still doesn't detect
that it's available for some reason. You should take a look at
why that's failing.

There's a bug in the Unichrome driver code which means high resolution video
modes are not available. There's a simple fix given to me by Luc Verhagen
of the Unichrome development team:

In the file programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/via/ (provided by
patches/000_stolen_from_unichrome.sf.net.diff), in the function
ViaGetMemoryBandwidth:

case VIA_KM400:
   if (pVia->ChipRev < 0x8F)

should read:

case VIA_KM400:
   if (pVia->ChipRev < 0x84)

Making this change and recompiling has solved the problem for me.

Cheers,

Tom

Severity: normal

I see that there is now a shared library for libXss, but libxss-dev
doesn't depend on libxss1. As a result, packages that depend on
libxss-dev will continue to build against the static library, not
against the shared library (as I presume was intended).

Hi maintainer!

It'd be great if some time you could include module v4l (video
for linux) in the list of server modules to be loaded in the debconf
interface. It'd make it very easy for configuring fullscreen v4l viewers.

Thanks so much for the great work!!

I saw it in your config file. It seems to have been automaticatically
generated (there are a lot of "generic" terms in it). Take a look at it.

Emmm, please, do not send me directly information. Simply send it to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] as I do. The X Strike Force will receive a copy of the

Fantastic! Let's target this for -6 then. In the meantime, is there any
disadvantage to compiling the default xterm with 256 color support? What
sort of increased memory requirements and is there anything else we're not
aware of?

Bug#322253: xserver-xorg: evdev ignores the same key on pc105 keyboards too

2005-08-10 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-4
Followup-For: Bug #322253

evdev have the same problem with 105-key keyboards, and
Norwegian keyboard layout. The result is that
it is impossible to type the two chaacters < and >, which makes
the unix command line difficult to use.

Running "xev" shows keycode 7, keysym 0x0 and
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""

The normal, when not using evdev, is keycode 94, keysym 0x3c less,
XLookupString gives 1 bytes: "<"

Unfortunately, I need to use evdev in order to support two independent
X displays with separate keyboards, and it seems like evdev is the only
way to achieve this on linux.

Not only planning, I already have a semi-clean xterm tree and I need to
set
up proper options for configure and check that every thing we shipped with
X.Org is going to be shipped with latest xterm. After that, it will be time
for xterm-256 or whatever.

I do not expect to spend a lot of additional time in xterm, it seems an
easy
target.

I will have to contact Branden to open a new repository in necrotic.

Best regards,

Ender.

Sorry, David (Tulloh), but your bug report is invalid, as you are not
using
the latest version in stable or unstable. Please upgrade to the latest
packages and report again.

David (Bremner), could you please see if you experience the same
symptom when
you use the latest version in stable, or better, in unstable? Either test
would serve. I understand that you might be stable (Sarge) users.

Best regards,

Ender.
