Bug#362122: marked as done (xbase-clients: package does not contain directories within which it contains files)
Your message dated Tue, 25 Apr 2006 22:47:12 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#357713: fixed in xorg-server 1:1.0.2-7 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: xbase-clients Version: 1:7.0.0-2 Severity: important Hello, The package file of xbase-clients does not seem to follow consistently the usual convention of Debian packages, whereby any directory that the packages has files in is also contained in the package. In particular, the following directories seem to be missing: /usr/include/X11 /usr/include/X11/bitmaps /usr/lib/X11 /etc/X11/xinit /etc/X11/Xresources Especially the absence of /usr/lib/X11 is causing a lot of trouble, because in previous versions of X it also exists as a symlink, pointing to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11. As a result, when the new version of xbase-clients is unpacked, the files that are meant for /usr/lib/X11 get unpacked in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 instead! A couple of symptoms caused by this have already been reported in bugs #357713 and #361516. Hopefully, this shouldn't be too complicated to fix. You need to be specific. How does it 'kill' GNOME? Can you attach your xorg.conf? Can you also attach your Xorg.0.log from a crashing session? If GNOME gives you the dialog where it asks you to attach the output from two commands if reporting a bug, can you attach the output from those two commands? X dies half-way through the GNOME session launching. Config and logs attached. GNOME does not give me that dialog; it dies before any of the desktop becomes visible. The log you give doesn't show anything meaningful, except authentication getting screwed up. Bug#364830: gnome-control-center: gnome-settings-daemon makes the X server segfault
reassign 364830 xserver-xorg thanks Le mercredi 26 avril 2006 à 00:22 +0100, Sam Morris a écrit : When I try to log in to Gnome, the X server segfaults (leaving my console in a very bad state, I have to shell in from another machine to fix it). Attached is the X server's log file. Noticing that it dies while setting up the keymap, I logged in with just an xterm and ran gnome-settings-daemon, and the server died again. This happens since the upgrade of libxklavier10 to version 2.2-3. The output of gconftool -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard. is also attached. Use the source package name, so xserver-xorg-input-wacom would be correct. This is supposed to be svn best practices that I wasn't aware of before, and it lets you just copy the old version on the the new one, thereby tracking all changes. Note that every driver from X.org will be getting an update anyway during 7.1 due to the ABI bump in the server, so I'll fix these directory names then. Thank you, David. I thought initially that your scheme was wrong as well, but...I did not have much time in order to investigate it. :-) I see a problem in Wacom drivers, as supposedly wacom-tools should provide it, but the maintainer seems...in a certain manner, unresponsive. So I think that I am going to package until we converge or agree on a common source. Bug#364288: Randomly loses input since X11R7 upgrade
El miércoles, 26 de abril de 2006 11:47, Tore Anderson escribió: * David Martínez Moreno [...] It might of course be a kernel bug - I did indeed upgrade to 2.6.16 recently. I can try downgrading to 2.6.15 and see if I experience the bug then. The X server is my prime suspect though - the keyboard works perfectly on the console, and I need only restart X to fix the problem. I will install GPM to see if the mouse continues working fine on the console when X has problems. One thing that really makes me think the kernel is unlikely, is the fact that the pointer actually moves around the screen when I move the mouse, so the X server has to receive the events from the kernel orelse the pointer would appear to be stuck/frozen, no? Yet there's no MotionNotify-events - I assume the kernel doesn't have anything to do with generating those? Well, it seems that the problem is not in the kernel input layer, then. Anyway, if VT switching is working...we can discard a kernel input problem, I think. Anyway it will be nice if you could switch kernels. I will attach an xev to my browser like you suggested and see if I get the same results. However I'm unable to reproduce it at will, it just happens once in a while - and I can't guarantee that I will be browsing when it happens. I'll try (from the console) to attach xev to whatever window had focus if that happens, though. I guess I can use xwininfo -name to get the window ID without having to rely on the mouse working, so that should be no problem. All right, we will wait, then. Another thing I just thought of and I'll try is to remove all the USB- related modules and re-insert them again, to see if that will fix the problem without requiring a restart. Both my keyboard and my mouse are USB devices. I did try hotplugging them though, without any success. It seems right as well. Although you could not find anything useful in Xorg.0.log, you should send it to us (preferably from a problematic session) and your xorg.conf, along with the output of lsmod and dmesg. Bug#364965: Don't load type1 backend by default
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 Severity: wishlist Hi Branden, or whoever is maintaining the X server nowadays. On my systems at least, X.Org is loading the type1 font backend. I have no idea whether this is the default behaviour, or an artefact of my configuration -- if the latter, please disregard this report. I would like to argue that the type1 backend should not be loaded by default. The type1 backend uses the IBM/Lexmark Type 1 rasteriser, which is old, unmaintained and buggy. Since XFree86 4.3.0, the freetype backend is used for Type 1 fonts if it is loaded, and the type1 backend is only used for CIDFonts. Nobody understands CIDFonts. Nobody knows how to install a CIDFont in the X server. CIDFonts are not supported by Xft. And fortunately they are obsolete -- the format has been made obsolete by OpenType/CFF. I would like to convince you that the type1 backend should not be loaded by default. If your users complain, please point them at FontForge, which is supposed to be able to convert CIDFonts to the OpenType/CFF format (which, unlike conversion to TTF format, is lossless). Thanks, Juliusz pgpFzMMRsZQ3U.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#363559: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Thanks!
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati Version: 1:6.5.8.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #363559 As far as I can tell (I've been running the new version of the driver for a few hours) the system does not freeze anymore on my t42p. Bug#364979: libxvmc1: Missing link for shared library
Package: libxvmc1 Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Severity: important There seems to be a missing link for the XvMC wrapper library, which prevents packages from being linked against libXvMCW. Bug#364979: Typo
Sorry - found a typo in my original request. The symbolic link command should be (of course) sudo ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXvMCW.so.1.0 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXvMCW.so pgp8VZ0W5MN8j.pgp Description: PGP signature
