Bug#373292: xserver-xorg-video-ati: always disables direct rendering

2006-06-14 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.5.8.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I wanted to try Google Earth's linux version, but I cannot get DRI
working anymore. The dri-module is loaded and X11 tells me that the
DRI-Extension is activated, however the radeon module later disables
direct rendering, without any further notice.

The relevant Xorg.conf sections look fine I think (see below). I'm using
a ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 Lf and I had DRI working at least
with 6.8.2 (not sure about 6.9).

I'm attaching the Xorg.0.log

This sounds like a bug in libgl1-mesa-dri which should be fixed in

upstream fix referred to in the above bugzilla entry).

Hmm, I tried that, but my pc stopped doing anything when I started X11.

Anyway this time it works, although google earth has a _really_ bad 3d
display, glxgears works perfectly...

Closing this bug now.

too. Doing the same with libgl1-mesa-glx and DRI disabled, I get the
attached one. Could wxWidgets be doing something bad ?

Possibly; in particular in the previous backtrace, it does look like
either wx or GTK is the culprit. In this case, it looks like it could be
 wx and/or libGL and/or the X server.

Follow-up on this bug.
Upstream proposes packages on its website, built on Sarge. It is linked
statically against local versions of Mesa and wxWidgets, which are
included in the tarball and built before actually compiling the Amaya
binary itself.
The important detail, I guess, is that the provided Mesa is branded as
being 6.2.1.

My various tests have been done on an up-to-date unstable.
Using the static wxWidgets and shared Mesa leads to the gdk error.
Using the static wxWidgets and static Mesa works. However, it crashes with
the same gdk error if the Composite extension is enabled.

I'm not sure if this points more towards a problem with Mesa or X, but I
feel all this is becoming quite complicated.

Problem solved. I had stale libXmu in /usr/X11R6/lib, not owned by any package.
After removing it (and other stale libs there) I got a running Xterm with this
messaege (even in LC_ALL=C):

Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C

Which was fixed by forced dpkg --remove and apt-get install libx11-6.

In case it's of relevance, the mouse is a Logitech MX900 Bluetooth
mouse, connected via the Bluetooth HID stack. However, I've also
observed the same behaviour when using a MX310, directly over USB. I
don't have a PS/2 wheel mouse, so I can't check whether it is a USB-only
problem.

Bug#373686: xbase-clients: [xkbcomp] man page showing __mansuffix__

Package: xbase-clients
Version: 1:7.0.1-2
Severity: minor
File: /usr/share/man/man1/xkbcomp.1x.gz

man xkbcomp shows

xkbcomp(__mansuffix__)

in the heading, which I guess is meant to have 1x or something
substituted.

One more detail: everything worked fine when I was running xorg 6.9.
The problem started after the upgrade.

Bug#373691: 3 more packages x11-common needs to conflict with

2006-06-14 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.0.20
Severity: normal

Severity note: this problem blocks the upgrade of X11 and any other
packages that happen to be upgrade targets at the same time. It may
leave the user without a functioning X. So it may warrant higher
severity. On the other hand, the packages that caused the trouble are
likely not too common, and there is a work-around.

I'm reporting this as suggested in http://wiki.debian.org/Xorg69To7.

The following packages own stuff in /usr/X11/bin/, and thus make the
upgrade impossible. The work-around is to purge them with dpkg -P.
apt-get remove does not work; it gags on the weird state of things in
the middle of the X transition.

x11-common needs to conflict with
cbb
guitar
xext

Once I dpkg -P'd these packages I was able to complete the upgrade
with
apt-get -f install
apt-get dist-upgrade

I had initiated the upgrade with
apt-get dist-upgrade
