Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.0.22 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi. I upgraded kernel to 2.6.17 and xserver stopped working. I tried both DRI enabled and disabled. I also tried disabling all modules and removing all font directories, it didn't help. I have since upgraded x11-common and libxft-dev to the latest versions in testing/etch, and I no longer experience this bug. So, the problem has been fixed as far as I am concerned. Thanks. And I will look harder next time to find related bug reports - I did check x11-common's bug reports thoroughly, but apparently not libxft-dev. Thanks, closing then. ---End Message---

It seems that support for /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup was dropped silently. This contradicts the documentation since xdm.1 still says that background images should be set using Xsetup. This is contrary to the xdm(1) manual page which clearly states that the Xsetup script will get run: After resetting the X server, xdm runs the Xsetup script to assist in setting up the screen the user sees along with the xlogin widget. If there is some good reason why the default configuration should prevent local customizations of the login screen (such as installing a nice background picture, or starting some buttons to shutdown or reboot the machine), this should at least be documented. Bug#375553: xserver-xorg: Server freezes switching to console and back
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.0.22 Severity: grave I start the X system typing startx, then go to the console pressing C-M-Fn (for some n) and so some other stuff, the go back to X with M-F7. Re: monitor blanking randomly
also sprach martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006.06.09.2013 +0200]: It works, but every now and then, screen0's monitor will just blank for a second, then come back up. It'll do that 3-7 times, then it'll be fine for a while. I can reproduce this semi-reliably by scrolling large portions of a page in a full-screen firefox window. I cannot seem to do that in a non-full-screen window. -- Please do not send copies of list mail to me; I read the list! .''`. martin f. krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED] : :' :proud Debian developer and author: http://debiansystem.info `. `'` `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing a system gates' law: every 18 months, the speed of software halves. signature.asc Description: Digital signature (GPG/PGP)

Re: Bug#375460: Upgrade to linux kernel 2.6.17 makes Xserver crasing on startup
I upgraded kernel to 2.6.17 and xserver stopped working. Just for reference, I've upgraded to 2.6.17 but X is working same as it did before (i810). I'm sorry I don't have a suggestion for fixing your crash. Drew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
