Since 7.0 migrated to Testing, there are no Xorg 6.9 packages left as alternatives for installations or upgrades from earlier Xorgs or Xfree86. I managed to destroy a working 6.9 installation by upgrading to 7.0 using Synaptic and individual package choice. Everything installed without dependency errors, leaving me with an xorg.conf file that refers to a missing sunffb driver file. -- thanks, SP --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Hi, The packages in question have recently appeared in unstable and will propagate to testing shortly, so closing this bug. Hi Martin, This problem has been reported as bug 352869 a while ago, and a solution is on its way. Please add the directives Load "cfb" Load "cfb32" to the "Module" section of your xorg.conf as a workaround in the meantime. RFC: xorg configuration generation on sparc
Hi, As mentioned before, the xorg.conf generation on sparc is currently broken. Attached patch (which, I hope, eventually will be applied) against xorg source package fixes all currently known problems: * The type of the installed video card is detected properly using prtconf from the sparc-utils package. discover currently does not support detecting SBUS and, I believe, UPA cards, so it's pretty useless on sparc. * cfb and cfb32 modules are loaded by default on sparc. Currently sunffb driver (probably most common) depends on symbols from these modules. sunffb is also made a default driver, in case detection fails. * The default keyboard rules are set to 'xorg' and not 'sun'. The 'sun' keyboard rules were correct for 2.4 kernels, but in 2.6 kernels the keyboard layer has been unified across architectures, so 'xorg' is the correct setting in most (all?) cases. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The source and binary packages built from the revision 2466 of the xorg source package in XSF svn repository, including the attached patch, are available for testing from http://www.wooyd.org/debian/xorg/. If you would like to test it, make a backup copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, purge the xserver-xorg package, and install the patched one. It should generate a working xorg.conf file. If it does not, please provide the information on how it needs to be fixed. xorg-x11 REMOVED from testing
FYI: The status of the xorg-x11 source package in Debian's testing distribution has changed. Previous version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 Current version: (not in testing) Hint: Package not in unstable The script that generates this mail tries to extract removal reasons from comments in the britney hint files. Those comments were not originally meant to be machine readable, so if the reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the actual hints file before you complain about meaningless removals. -- This email is automatically generated; [EMAIL PROTECTED] is responsible. Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 1.0.2-9 My six-card x.org configuration started failing and/or crashing during the xserver initialization with memory allocation errors on the 6.9 release and hasn't been fixed so far as I've found yet. The individual logs for all cards and each card, along with a lot of diagnostic information, are available (for size reasons) at http://neuroblastoma.omgwallhack.org/home/jrayhawk/xorgbugreport/ The 6.8 log is a Gentoo compile of x.org made for reference which works much the same way (as far as I can see) as Debian's 6.8 releases did. Gentoo's 6.9/7.0 packages exhibit the same broken behavior as seen here. I can provide any further information if requested. I am willing to give a trustworthy interested party root access to the machine. Just provide a SSH key and I can get that set up. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
