libxi override disparity

2006-08-10 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

libxi-dev_1.0.1-2_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says libdevel.
libxi6-dbg_1.0.1-2_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says
libdevel.
libxi6-dbg_1.0.1-2_i386.deb: package says priority is optional, override says
extra.
libxi6_1.0.1-2_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says libs.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one

Or... looking at the 1.6.5 release notes, just update to that. I'll try and

Bug#381978: debian-installer: etch d-i installs an antique mouse cursor

2006-08-10 Thread Frans Pop
> Reassigning #381978 to meta-gnome2, this will be fixed when meta-gnome2
> enters testing.

I'm not sure that this analysis is correct.
- Currently in testing gnome-themes _is_ installed through the desktop
  task as gnome-desktop-environment depends on it
- However industrial-cursor-theme is _not_ installed as it is only
  recommended as gnome-themes only recommends it and because that
  package is not included on the first CD

I don't know what the dependencies around meta-gnome2 will be, but I doubt
it will be magically included...

So, if it is really important for Gnome to have this package installed for
a good user experience, you will need to work with the tasksel
maintainers to tune the task definition.

I would suggest you try an installation from full D-I beta 3 CD sometime
(make sure you do _not_ select to use a network mirror as source in
addition to the CD) and check the results.

Note that currently the 2.4 kernels still take quite some space on the
first CD (88 MB) and that that space will become available for other
software (mainly the desktop task) with the RC1 release of D-I.

Cheers,
FJP

P.S. Note that this installation report was closed; leaving it to the
Gnome team to reopen it (or not).

The pkg-perl group uses separate addresses for the maintainer, the
discussion list, and the CVS commit list. I think I like that setup a bit
better. The package maintainer list gets all the bugs and therefore much
of the discussion, but that way there's a separate list for coordination
on major things.

Here are some things that annoy me:
  * Flood of SVN commits to debian-x.
I can use a procmail rule to filter them, but I often browse web
archives. See for instance current archive:
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2006/08/threads.html
Dak messages are also annoying, but there is not much we can do
if we want the Maintainer field to be debian-x. IMO commit messages
could be sent to another list, maybe at teams.debian.net?
This is especially true when there is an experimental branch, see
  * Web SVN interface:
I do not know if there is a good SVN web interface, svn.debian.org
is not better than XSF. http://git.freedesktop.org/ looks much more
usable.
  * SVN layout:
This one is really minor, but there are some strange things, like
/tags which contains monolith/, or the contents of /tags/debian/{,xorg/}
  * Lack of documentation:
Documentation is never where I am looking for, this is bad ;)
For instance, I read Branden's message
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2006/08/msg00055.html
about his tutorial on svn when coming back from vacation. As it did
not contain an URL, I did not go to the wiki and after reading
hundreds of mails I forgot about Branden's post. I found his (very good)
tutorial[0] yesterday when browsing XSF docs on the wiki. IMO sending
this tutorial to the list with a link to the wiki would be much better,
people could read it easily and send comments.
Enough rants, since anyone can contribute to this one without any
particular knowledge, I hereby volunteer to work on improving current
documentation. Not sure if it will be fun, but definitely useful ;)

script requires /etc/X11/default-display-manager to contain
the string /usr/bin/X11/xdm.

I suggest to use something like

-DAEMON=/usr/bin/X11/xdm
+DAEMON=/usr/bin/xdm
+DAEMON_OLD=/usr/bin/X11/xdm

...

 if [ "$HEED_DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER" = "true" ] &&
[ -e $DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE ] &&
-   [ "$(cat $DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE)" != "$DAEMON" ]; then
+   [ "$(cat $DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE)" != "$DAEMON" -o \
+ "$(cat $DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE)" != "$DAEMON_OLD" ]; then

Regards,

Joey

Re: Re: Updates to mesa packages in sid? Intel 945 3D not working

2006-08-10 Thread James Spencer

As a humble user of the mesa-dri snapshot in experimental, I'd be all
for a newer CVS pull that plays nice with the current versions of the
kernel, xorg, and libdrm. I'm using the admittedly experimental r300
driver, from Debian experimental so expecting smooth sailing is a
little much to ask. After some twiddling to get around bugs that are /
were known upstream things are working well. That being said, any
incidental bug fixing or features from a newer CVS pull would be
welcome by me.

FWIW, Unbuntu includes a newer CVS snapshot (by a couple or few
months) in their pool... I haven't been curious enough to try to get
it to work here though.

(Oh, and thanks to the person that made the experimental packages.
It's been fun to play with EXA, and to be able to get Doom 3 to
run...)

Bug#382360: xutils: upgrading from sarge, then purging, leaves /etc/X11/rstart/*

2006-08-10 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: xutils
Version: 7.1.ds-1

When testing another package (artwiz-cursor, but it happens with other
packages too) with piuparts, we found the following problem with xutils:

2m17.3s ERROR: Package purging left files on system:
  /etc/X11
owned by: x11-common
  /etc/X11/rstart
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/@List
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/ListContexts
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/ListGenericCommands
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/x11r6
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/x11r6/@List
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/x11r6/LoadMonitor
  /etc/X11/rstart/commands/x11r6/Terminal
  /etc/X11/rstart/config
  /etc/X11/rstart/contexts
  /etc/X11/rstart/contexts/@List
  /etc/X11/rstart/contexts/default
  /etc/X11/rstart/contexts/x11r6

This happens when upgrading from sarge to etch to sid, and then removing
and purging the package. In the sarge version of xutils, those files
seem to be conffiles, but in the etch version they no longer are part of
the package. dpkg does not remove conffiles from disk when they are
dropped from a package during an upgrade; you may want to remove the
files in postrm during purge, I guess.

The full log file is at

http://piuparts.cs.helsinki.fi/bugged/artwiz-cursor_1:1.3-5.log

I hope this is helpful.

add to your sources.list

# Experimental

deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free

apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-i810/experimental
xserver-xorg-core/experimental

this will install the version
xserver-xorg-video-i810 1.6.3-1
xserver-xorg-core 1.1.1-1

Note that xf86-video-intel 1.6.4 breaks this again... ugh.

Hi Josip,

/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/hr does not contain any such definition, this
is a configuration problem on your side. Can you please check?

Denis
