Why did you close my bug-report? The package description (xbase-clients
1:7.1.ds-3) still mentions xf86cfg:

> The bitmap, editres, viewres, xbiff, xcalc, xconsole, xditview, xedit,

_Because_ the applications are not shipped, they should not be mentioned
in the package description. I cannot see, why this report has been
closed, because the bug itself doesn't seem to be fixed. I hope for some
response from you. If not, I have to reopen that bug-report.

Thanks for the explanation. It was starting to bug me, so I had it on
my internal to-do list (if not at the highest priority on it :) )

I'll clean 'em up when I get a chance (or anyone else is welcome to, of
course!).

Bug#383361: Info received (Bug#383361: Acknowledgement (xorg: mouse makes Xorg server does not start))

2006-08-17 Thread Jean-Michel

Now, I understand that the issue might be not related to xorg, but USB.

Today, the system did not start X.
At launching startx, EE was on ''missing'' /dev/input/mice.

Unpluging:
* the USB plugged printer HP DeskJet 6840
* the sagem fast 800 cegetel internet router
* and the USB hub

and repluging directly USB mouse (directly here means without hub).

makes startx (and so X) work.

Remote, using the command I put on the wiki, e.g. most recently,

svn export svn://necrotic.deadbeast.net/xorg-x11/branches/7.1/lib/libxfont

xmore in xbase-clients_7.1.ds-3

2006-08-17 Thread Pat Suwalski

Hello,

I'm working on testing building X.org 7.1 as it currently is in Debian.
I came across a problem with building xmore in both the 7.0
xbase-clients package and 7.1 package.

The build error is as follows:

gcc  -Wall -g -O2   -o xmore  xmore-xmore.o  -lXaw7 -lXmu -lXt -lX11
-lSM -lICE

xmore-xmore.o(.text+0x64): In function `printshellDestroyXtProc':
./xmore-X11R7.0-1.0.1/xmore.c:153: undefined reference to
`XawPrintDialogClosePrinterConnection'

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [xmore] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/root/x71/main/xbase-clients-7.1.ds/xmore-X11R7.0-1.0.1-obj-i486-linux-gnu'

make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/root/x71/main/xbase-clients-7.1.ds/xmore-X11R7.0-1.0.1-obj-i486-linux-gnu'

make: *** [build-stamp] Error 1

"XawPrintDialogClosePrinterConnection" is defined in printdialog.h,
which is only included when USE_XPRINT is enabled. The xmore component
is built explicitly with --disable-xprint.

My workaround was to ifdef the line in the function:

static void
printshellDestroyXtProc(Widget w, XtPointer client_data, XtPointer callData)
{
#ifdef USE_XPRINT
XawPrintDialogClosePrinterConnection(printdialog, False);
#endif
}

Anyway, I don't understand how this actually built in Debian's build
farm, but this is probably an upstream thing.

Bug#383468: libsm6-dbg: contains no files except docs

2006-08-17 Thread Tuukka Hastrup
Package: libsm6-dbg
Severity: normal

Looking at both libsm6-dbg_1.0.0-4_i386.deb in unstable and
libsm6-dbg_1.0.1-1_i386.deb in experimental, they contain no
files except Debian changelog and copyright. I would expect
them to contain the shared object under /usr/lib/debug, like
libice6-dbg does.

Bug#383465: Contains obfuscated source code, DFSG violation?

2006-08-17 Thread Matthew Garrett
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:1.0.1.5-2
Severity: serious

The nv driver appears to be heavily obfuscated and is effectively
unmodifiable. Rather than symbolic constants, almost every reference to
hardware is performed using undocumented hex. The only registers that
appear to be documented are the legacy CRTC ones which are effectively
identical over all hardware. Take for example NVBacklightEnable:

if((pNv->Chipset == 0x10DE0179) ||
   (pNv->Chipset == 0x10DE0189) ||
   (pNv->Chipset == 0x10DE0329))
{
   /* NV17,18,34 Apple iMac, iBook, PowerBook */
  CARD32 tmp_pmc, tmp_pcrt;
  tmp_pmc = pNv->PMC[0x10F0/4] & 0x7FFF;
  tmp_pcrt = pNv->PCRTC0[0x081C/4] & 0xFFFC;
  if(on) {
  tmp_pmc |= (1 << 31);
  tmp_pcrt |= 0x1;
  }
  pNv->PMC[0x10F0/4] = tmp_pmc;
  pNv->PCRTC0[0x081C/4] = tmp_pcrt;
 }

The idea that nvidia do not posess an electronic list of register names
and offsets is entirely implausible. The only rational explanation is
that register information is postprocessed out in order to reduce
information leakage. The shipped code is certainly not the preferred
form for modification, and according to prevailing attitudes on
debian-legal should be removed from Debian.

Upgrade path for xfonts-basae-transcoded

2006-08-17 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

 I just noticed that my system has xfonts-base-transcoded locally
 installed, but it isn't in the archive anymore.

 However, other packages still Suggest or Recommend
 xfonts-base-transcoded.

 Is it appropriate to file a bug on one of the Xorg source packages? Or
 perhaps this particular package has no replacement in Xorg? If I
 should, on which source should I report the bug?

   Bye,
PS: not subscribed to debian-x@, please Cc: me

Hi,

Without looking deep into your mail, I want to ask you to withhold
uploads to unstable of packages which are:
1. involved in transitions already (or basically just has different
versions in testing and unstable; note that this is already true if it
was binNMUed) - we currently try to pull directfb through, which has a
large dependency tree;
2. rdepends of such packages, and bump shlibs.

I'll give your mail a more detailed look this evening.

Cheers,
Andi

It has been created, I copied my docs there:
 git clone
ssh://costa.debian.org/srv/git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/doc-hackers.git/
for a writable checkout (XSF members) and
 git clone http://arch.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/doc-hackers.git/
for anonymous checkout, and updated the wiki.
At the moment, there is no git.debian.org alias, hence this strange URL ;)
More canonical URLs will certainly be available later.
Feel free anyone to send patches (or commit directly) to these docs,
this is a staging area to learn using git.

Do the package dependencies reflect the fact that the new
xserver-xorg-core will break old drivers yet? One idea would be to
change the name of the virtual package xserver-xorg-video to
xserver-xorg-video-1.0 (reflecting the current video driver ABI version
1.0) and make xserver-xorg-core 1.1 Conflicts: xserver-xorg-video.

I agree, however, there is an issue similar to the one above in that
mesa-swx11-source 6.5 will make xorg-server 1.0 FTBFS. Might be worth
uploading another iteration of xorg-server 1.0 with Build-Depends:
mesa-swx11-source (<< 6.5.0) or Build-Conflicts: mesa-swx11-source (>>
6.5.0) added to make the archive scripts aware of this.

Note that AIGLX still has some rough edges (e.g., the 3D drivers will
call exit() in some error conditions, which isn't a nice failure mode
for the X server...), so it might be better to disable it at runtime by
default.
