I haven't kept logs from previous working versions of the server; if the information may help you, I'll send it when I have successfully downgraded my xserver (ouch, a whole lot of stuff needs to be co-downgraded). [Bug?] xorg dependencies make installation of libgl1-mesa-swx11 impossible
Hi! This looks like a bug, but I'm not sure about it, so before reporting it, I want to ask about it here: I'm using Etch on a box with a Matrox G450. As running glxgears using libgl1-mesa-dri crashed my box a while ago (only Alt-SysRq-... worked), I wanted to install libgl1-mesa-swx11 again. But with xorg 1:7.0.22, I cannot install "libgl1-mesa-swx11" (see transcript at the end of this mail). xorg depends on libgl1-mesa-glx, which provides "libgl1" and thus conflicts with libgl1-mesa-swx11, which also provides "libgl1". Is this a bug, or did I miss something? Should xorg only depend on "libgl1", or shouldn't libgl1-mesa-dri and -swx11 provide "libgl1"? If it's a bug, should I use reportbug to report it officially? Bug#389335: same here
I believe I'm hit by this bug to. I also believe #389416 is a dupe of this bug. I see there is a patch submitted and I hope the bug will be fixed soon. Is there an ETA? I didn't manage how to revert to an older version of the package. My workaround; 1) install xserver-xorg-video-vesa 2) backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf 3) edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and use "vesa" as driver instead; Section "Device" Identifier "VIA Technologies, Inc. Selecting other modes will generate incorrect timing, different from the specified one with a vertical refresh way higher than the normal. For instance 640 x 480 @ 85Hz has a vertical refresh of 127 Hz: seems that the dot clock is set to the maximum allowable. Inserting custom modeline in xorg.conf doesn't work, OpenGL stopped working, but I'm not sure is is related to the bug or is because I've rebuilt xorg.conf from scratch with dpkg-reconfigure. I had to use a configuration like this in the Device section to make OpenGL work: Option "OldDmaInit" "true" Option "AGPMode" "4" Option "NoHal" "true" Also the ctrl-alt-grey+ / ctrl-alt-grey- stopped working, but using the change menu from kde works with still wrong timings. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=it_IT (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages xserver-xorg depends on: ii debconf 1.5.5Debian configuration management sy ii x11-common 1:7.1.0-1X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc ii xbase-clients 1:7.1.ds-3 miscellaneous X clients ii xkb-data0.8-13 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-7X.Org X server -- core server ii xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.1.0-1the X.Org X server -- input driver ii xserver-xorg-input-evde 1:1.1.2-3X.Org X server -- evdev input driv ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.1.0-2X.Org X server -- keyboard input d ii xserver-xorg-input-mous 1:1.1.1-3X.Org X server -- mouse input driv ii xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.1.0-1the X.Org X server -- output drive ii xserver-xorg-video-apm 1:1.1.1-3X.Org X server -- APM display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-ark 1:0.6.0-3X.Org X server -- ark display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.2-2X.Org X server -- ATI display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-chip 1:1.1.1-4X.Org X server -- Chips display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-cirr 1:1.1.0-3X.Org X server -- Cirrus display d ii xserver-xorg-video-cyri 1:1.1.0-4X.Org X server -- Cyrix display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-dumm 1:0.2.0-3X.Org X server -- dummy display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-fbde 1:0.3.0-3X.Org X server -- fbdev display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-glin 1:1.1.1-3X.Org X server -- Glint display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-i128 1:1.2.0-3X.Org X server -- i128 display dri ii xserver-xorg-video-i740 1:1.1.0-3X.Org X server -- i740 display dri ii xserver-xorg-video-i810 2:1.6.5-3X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx ii xserver-xorg-video-imst 1:1.1.0-3X.Org X server -- IMSTT display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-mga 1:1.4.1.dfsg.1-4 X.Org X server -- MGA display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-neom 1:1.1.1-4X.Org X server -- Neomagic display ii xserver-xorg-video-newp 1:0.2.0-3X.Org X server -- Newport display ii xserver-xorg-video-nsc 1:2.8.1-3X.Org X server -- NSC display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-nv [ 1:1.2.0-3X.Org X server -- NV display drive ii xserver-xorg-video-rend 1:4.1.0.dfsg.1-4 X.Org X server -- Rendition displa ii xserver-xorg-video-s3vi 1:1.9.1-3X.Org X server -- S3 ViRGE display ii xserver-xorg-video-sava 1:2.1.1-4X.Org X server -- Savage display d ii xserver-xorg-video-sili 1:1.4.1-4X.Org X server -- SiliconMotion di ii xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.9.1-3X.Org X server -- SiS display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-sisu 1:0.8.1-3X.Org X server -- SiS USB display ii xserver-xorg-video-tdfx 1:1.2.1-4X.Org X server -- tdfx display dri ii xserver-xorg-video-tga 1:1.1.0-3X.Org X server -- TGA display driv ii xserver-xorg-video-trid 1:1.2.1-3X.Org X server -- Trident display ii xserver-xorg-video-tsen 1:1.1.0-3X.Org X server -- Tseng display dr ii xserver-xorg-video-v4l 0.1.1-3 X.Org X server -- Video 4 Linux di ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1:1.2.1-3X.Org X server
Bug#389589: XkbModel: pc105 broken
Package: xkb-data Version: 0.8-13 Severity: normal >From my xorg.conf: Section "InputDevice" Identifier"Generic Keyboard" Driver"keyboard" Option"CoreKeyboard" Option"XkbRules" "xorg" Option"XkbModel" "pc105" Option"XkbLayout" "de" Option"XkbVariant""nodeadkeys" Option"XkbOptions""altwin:super_win" EndSection But even though pc105 is specified, the key with < > | on it does nothing. $ setxkbmap -v 7 Applied rules from xorg: model: pc105 layout: de variant:nodeadkeys options:altwin:super_win Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwertz) types: complete compat: complete symbols:pc+de(nodeadkeys)+altwin(super_win) geometry: pc(pc105) So it seems the xorg rules now incorrectly map model "pc105" and layout "de" to symbols "pc+de" and not "pc(pc105)+de" as before. Looks like line 270 from /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/xorg is to blame for that: * * = pc+%l%(v) The corresponding line (374) from the same file from xkb-data 0.8-12 reads: * * = pc(pc105)+%l%(v) (actually for my case line 372 from this file should match:) $pcmodels * = pc(%m)+%l%(v) Anyway, the additional key works with this version and does not anymore. A temporary fix is: $ setxkbmap -v 7 -symbols 'pc(pc105)+de(nodeadkeys)+altwin(super_win)' Warning! Multiple definitions of symbols Using command line, ignoring rules file Applied rules from xorg: model: pc105 layout: de variant:nodeadkeys options:altwin:super_win Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwertz) types: complete compat: complete symbols:pc(pc105)+de(nodeadkeys)+altwin(super_win) geometry: pc(pc105) Changing line 270 back to * * = pc(pc105)+%l%(v) fixes it for good. But I guess the whole section should be changed back ... or the symbols/pc file modified to always include 105 keys. Bug#389429: xserver-xorg: Crashes on startup after the upgrade to 7.1
Michel Dänzer wrote: > > > * xserver-xorg/config/device/driver: vesa > > Does this also happen with the 'ati' driver? No, it works, but this driver is almost unusable with my card: it supports max 8bit colour, so GNUstep apps won't run, and it totally messes the console colours making it garbled. I use pure console and GNUstep a lot. Removing the "glx" module doesn't help with the "vesa" driver, but I don't need that anyway so thanks for the hint.

There are a few exceptions: - app/xterm: I only just saw that upstream keeps old versions on the FTP server, so I'll add this right away. - app/xbase-clients, app/xprint-utils, app/xutils, util/xutils-dev and font/*: these are collections of more than one upstream package and I haven't yet figured out how to tell uscan to account for that. - app/mesa-utils, lib/mesa: since Mesa is not an XSF package, I haven't added watch-files to these. - data/xkb-data-legacy: not provided by upstream anymore. - doc/xorg-sgml-doctools-X11R7.0-1.0.1 and doc/xorg-docs-X11R7.0-1.0.1: maybe these should be renamed to xorg-sgml-doctools and xorg-docs respectively? - driver/xserver-xorg-video-ast: this directory doesn't contain any Debian packaging files, so no need to add a watch file. For the above, I used a small script (available here[0]) which can check all the packages against the watch file (using uscan) and scan for missing watch files. It can also generate a "dummy" watch file if none exists yet, but that usually requires manual tweaking. One idea I was playing with was to enhance the script so that it would send an email notification of new upstream releases, then run the script as a cronjob. I'm not sure how useful this would be, though. - Thierry [0]: http://beatle.dotsec.net/debian/scripts/check-watch.pl signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hi, I was wondering why my bug submission has been ignored? Is there a simple fix or are people working on it? I realise that my reference to a commercial application like Matlab might turn people off. However, it worked before the upgrade.
