Can you post the output of the following command? $ dpkg -l 'compiz*' This should list the compiz-plugins package, which contains the gconf plugin. If it isn't listed as installed, then try installing it manually, though it should have been installed automatically. Also scrolling on konqueror is really slow... way slower than with 2.0.2.3-4. 2D-performance is greatly lacking with this new driver (see debian bug 390626). Bug#390739: blank screen (no output) with mga g400
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.1.0-1 Severity: important I'm using an MGA G400, and with the new update to xorg 7.1, my screen suddenly stopped working. I can switch to the console at vt1, and the screen comes back. And X appears to be running fine (all the processes look ok, and I can hear WMMail make noise when mail comes in), but when I'm on vt7, the monitor reports no input signal and nothing is visible. Keyboard and mouse input seem to be fine, although it's hard to tell when you can't see anything, but I can use ctrl-alt-bksp to kill the Xserver. It all worked fine with 7.0, and nothing (that I know of) has changed, other than the Xserver version. I've tried reconfiguring without success. I'm generally pretty good at figuring out odd X server problems, but this one has me stumped. At this point, I'm pretty sure this is a bug, and not misconfiguration -- though I'd be happy to be proved wrong. Anyway, I'm completely without a usable X at the moment. Help! One thing that might be relevant: I tried reconfiguring with autodetect, and it seemed to want to use the on-board SiS controller (piece of junk) on my motherboard rather than the G400. I'm wondering if it's still somewhat confused even with the manual configuration. But it used to work just fine! I'll happily provide any log files or other information that isn't automatically attached to this report, if it will help. Just let me know what you want. Bug#388699: workaround
Hi again! As a workaround, I enabled UseDummyXserver in the configuration for the hibernate script. This way I get some screen flickering on wake up, but also my display works correctly again. Bug#388517: xserver-xorg: xserver crash on Radeon AIW 8500DV when starting opengl app using glx (but not dri)

It uses OpenGL through JOGL. Here I could fire up a 3D display, rotate it around several axes, and got it to crash when zooming in, as follows. Looks like the crash happens when enough of the scene gets out of the display window. The backtrace is different though, maybe I should open another bug ? Hm, this is something strange because the FILE SECTION, subsection FontPath from 'man xorg.conf' says: - When this entry is not specified in the config file, the server falls back to the compiled-in default font path, which contains the following font path elements: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID/ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/ - So the rule is 'if I write one or more FontPath entries, then compiled-in font path must be skiped'. We see the opposite behaviour: compiled-in pathes were selected and the dublication of fontpathes wasn't eliminated. I discovered that the number of duplicates in 'xlsfonts' output equals = font patternt from xfs (one entry) + font pattern from compiled-in pathes (one entry) + number of aliases to this font which was found in fonts.alias (zero or great entries). So for, say, -misc-fixed-bold-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1 we have four entries in the 'xlsfonts' output! With the command xset -fp /usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/, /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/ the dublications of font patterns are disappeared. (wow!) The 'xfontsel' program also processes all these pattern entries. Before xset command 'xfontsel' found 6000+ pattens and after 2400+. I have the same issue if I rewrite xorg.conf. Re: Feature Freeze
Hi Drew, On Sun, Oct 01, 2006 at 06:29:58PM +1000, Drew Parsons wrote: David wrote: With the upload of compiz to unstable, I'm instituting a feature freeze across the X packages. The new savage driver can go in, and I'll consider a new ati release if upstream decides to do one, but our current package set is frozen as is. We have not updated all the input drivers to 7.1 yet. I'm going to let your uploads of the input drivers slide this time because I would have approved them. However, as I'm still the acting release manager for the XSF, I'm going to have to ask you to not violate the freeze again without permission. If you do so again, then my only recourse will be to have your access to the svn repo revoked, and your name removed from the uploaders field from all the XSF packages. If you're not going to behave like a team player, then you shouldn't be on the team. An item I missed in my mail is that the xprint packages are all outside the bounds of the freeze, and they are fully in your jurisdiction to do what you will. - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I have attached the relevant logs, but in a nutshell it tries to load the pcidata and bitmap modules, and fails. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-amd64-k8 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages xserver-xorg-core depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontenc1 1:1.0.2-2 X11 font encoding library ii libxau6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxdmcp61:1.0.1-2 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxfont11:1.2.2-1 X11 font rasterisation library ii x11-common 1:7.1.0-1 X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages xserver-xorg-core recommends: ii xkb-data 0.8-15 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu -- no debconf information Section ServerLayout Identifier XFree86 Configured Screen 0 Screen0 0 0 #Screen 1 Screen1 LeftOf Screen0 InputDeviceMouse0 CorePointer InputDeviceKeyboard0 CoreKeyboard EndSection Section ServerFlags Option Xinerama true EndSection Section Files #RgbPath /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt ModulePath /usr/X11R6/lib/modules FontPathunix/:7100# local font server # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc #FontPath /usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/Speedo FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi EndSection Section Module LoadGLcore Loadbitmap Loaddbe Loadddc #Load dri Loadextmod Loadfreetype Loadglx #Load int10 Loadrecord Loadspeedo Loadtype1 Loadvbe Loadv4l EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver keyboard Option CoreKeyboard Option XkbRules xfree86 Option XkbModel pc104 Option XkbLayout uk EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option SendCoreEventstrue Option Device/dev/input/mice Option Protocol ImPS/2 Option Buttons 5 Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 Option CorePointer EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Monitor0 VendorName Monitor Vendor ModelNameMonitor Model HorizSync 30-112 VertRefresh 50-100 Modeline a 132.00 1336 1394 1586 1728 1063 1064 1067 1100 -hsync -vsync Option DPMS EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Monitor1 VendorName Monitor Vendor ModelNameMonitor Model ModeLinenormal 157.5 1280 1344 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1072 ModeLinenew169.8 1384 1449 1622 1863 1024 1025 1028 1072 ModeLinefast 178.9 1384 1449 1622 1863 1024 1025 1028 1072 HorizSync 72.125-85 VertRefresh 63-77 Modeline a 132.00 1336 1394 1586 1728 1063 1064 1067 1100 -hsync -vsync Modeline b 150.00 1525 1584 1802 1964 1063 1064 1067 1100 -hsync -vsync Modeline c 66.00 671 697 793 864 531 532 534 550 -hsync -vsync Doublescan EndSection Section Device ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: i: integer, f: float, bool: True/False, ### string: String, freq: f Hz/kHz/MHz ### [arg]: arg optional #Option DigitalVibrance # i #Option NoFlip# [bool] #Option Dac8Bit # [bool] #Option NoLogo# [bool] #Option UBB # [bool] #Option Stereo# i #Option SWcursor # [bool] #Option HWcursor # [bool] #Option VideoKey # i #Option NvAGP # i #Option IgnoreEDID
Bug#389416: My identical symptoms fixed by 1:0.2.1-5
I was getting identical symptoms to the original poster (blank screen, but system up) with an EPIA M1 (CLE266) based thin client (ltsp booted). It could be worked round by specifying Option NoAccel Option SwCursor for the via driver but this seemed to give no noticeable improvement over simply using the vesa driver (which also worked fine). (SW cursor option necessary to avoid a block cursor and occasional screen corruption). Anyway, as soon as xserver-xorg-video-via 1:0.2.1-5 appeared in sid I gave it a go and the system is working much more smoothly now neither option need be specified. Thanks for getting this out there; I just hope it can make it into etch :^) Tim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Section Files # FontPathunix/:7100 FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 EndSection Then /var/log/Xorg.0.log: (WW) The directory /usr/share/fonts/X11/TTF/ does not exist. Bug#361777: xlibs: French keyboard updates
On Mon, Apr 10, 2006 at 10:18:21AM +0200, Samuel Thibault wrote: Package: xlibs Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 Severity: wishlist Hi, Hi Samuel, From the ascii-art keyboard layout in /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/fr, there should be a Multi_key key on the right of the AltGr (aka Windows key), but the current keymap doesn't include that. Could you please add key RWIN {[ Multi_key ] }; to fr and fr-latin9 symbols? (Or even to the basic pc keymaps) No, ASCII-art is bogus, modifier keys do not belong to layout definition; you can use the compose:rwin option to obtain this result. fr symbols also lacks a binding for nobreakspace (while fr-latin9 do have it). Could you please add key SPCE { [ space, space, nobreakspace ] }; to fr symbols? No, /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fi contains this comment: // AltGr+SPCE is pressed accidentally too often after AltGr+LSGT, // hence AltGr+SPCE produces now space, not nobreakspace. And indeed, many French people write nobreakspace by accident, as in $ ls | grep foo bash: grep: command not found This is of course very confusing. Options nbsp:* have just been added into upstream CVS and backported into the next xkeyboard-config upload so that people can decide to add this nobreakspace keysym or not. Denis

Bug#390739: blank screen (no output) with mga g400
Ok, I force-downgraded to the following packages from testing: xserver-xorg-core_1.0.2-9_i386.deb xserver-xorg-input-kbd_1.0.1.3-2_i386.deb xserver-xorg-input-mouse_1.0.4-3_i386.deb xserver-xorg-video-mga_1.2.1.3.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb And with no other changes or reconfiguration, X works again. So it definitely looks like a nasty bug somewhere in X7.1. Probably in xserver-xorg-video-mga, possibly in xserver-xorg-core. If you need anything more from me to help track this down, please don't hestitate to ask. Request for Debian-Compiz HOWTO
Hi all, I see that compiz and Xorg 7.1 are vailable in Debian Unstable. Thanks to the Xserver team for these packages. I've been waiting a long time for official packages to hit Debian. What I request is a Wiki page on Debian-Wiki on how to setup and use Compiz with Xorg 7.1 on Debian. I know that there are various online sources (blogs, forums etc) which provide this but a semi-official document hosted on the Debian Wiki will be useful. I'll also volunteer for maintainership of the page and making sure that page is updated with recent changes to Compiz and it's plugins. Thanks, Toufeeq -- blog @ http://toufeeq.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
