Bug#400706: xserver-xorg-core: Wrong info on /etc/X11/xorg.conf

2006-11-27 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.1.1-11
Severity: minor

Hi!

Sorry if this bug is already reported (or if I am reporting it to the
wrong package), but I saw at /etc/X11/xorg.conf this info:

(...)
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
(...)

Actually, it's "man xorg.conf" and not "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf"

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#400695: Add support for the ATI Technologies Inc M56P [Radeon Mobility X1600]

2006-11-27 Thread Matt Kraai
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.3-2
Severity: wishlist

I wish the free ATI drivers supported the ATI Technologies Inc M56P
[Radeon Mobility X1600], which is the graphics adapter in my MacBook
Pro. Its PCI ID is 1002:71c5.

I'm currently working around this problem by using the non-free
fglrx-driver package.

libXdamage calls UnlockDisplay and SyncHandle without a matching
LockDisplay. This causes a locking correctness assertion failure with
libX11 1.1 and Xlib/XCB in experimental, and will become RC after the
etch release when libX11 1.1 enters unstable.

libXcomposite calls UnlockDisplay without calling LockDisplay. This
causes a locking correctness assertion failure with libX11 1.1 and
Xlib/XCB in experimental, and will become RC after the etch release when
libX11 1.1 enters unstable.

Hi,

I updated xlib from unstable, which pulled xcb-xlib, and now I can't
login onto my system anymore using gdm.
The content of .xession-errors should be at the end of this mail (I'm at
the console, I can't do cut'n'paste, so I'm trying something else).
The French sentence means "No profile found for user 'xav'".

libXrandr calls UnlockDisplay without calling LockDisplay. This causes a
locking correctness assertion failure with libX11 1.1 and Xlib/XCB in
experimental, and will become RC after the etch release when libX11 1.1 enters
unstable. Patch from upstream Git repository:

The old xserver-common package had this note:

X servers either need fonts installed on the local host, or need
to know of a remote host that provides font services (with xfs,
for instance). The former means that font packages are
mandatory. The latter means that font packages may be
gratuitous. To err on the side of caution, install at least the
xfonts-base, xfonts-100dpi or xfonts-75dpi, and xfonts-scalable
packages.

This explains why xserver-xorg and friends don't declare Depends: on
xfonts-base. I think a Suggests:, or possibly Recommends:, wouldn't be
out of the question though. Few people use font servers these days.

A similar note in the modern packaging might help as well, though now
that client-side fonts are dominant, suggesting more than just
xfonts-base may be excessive.

Thanks to Josh Triplett for reminding me of the issues behind this bug.

This sounds like bug #392453. With the updated packages installed,
compiz now displays correctly on my PowerBook.

Indeed, it seems I wrote a bug report the same day the package was
updated to unstable. My bad.

Hence, I'll wait for the new xorg-core 1.1.1-11 to propagate to testing.
Sorry for the bother.

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-7

I think xserver-xorg should depend on xfonts-base.
If xfonts-base is not installed, the X server doesn't start and it says
(in /var/log/Xorg.0.log) it cannot find the required "fixed" font. So if it's
required, why not put a dependency in the package? (Maybe it should be a
different package the one that depends on xfonts-base, but in any case, it
seems one of them should do it).

Opinions?

No, it should not.
The fonts can be provided by a font server or by other means, they don't
need to be installed with the server. Typically, the package you want
to install is "xorg", not just "xserver-xorg". That package depends on
xfonts-base, among others.
Closing this bug.

+Remove incorrect UnlockDisplay and SyncHandle from XDamageQueryVersion
+
+XDamageQueryVersion calls UnlockDisplay and SyncHandle, without a matching
+LockDisplay. This triggers an assertion in Xlib/XCB designed to catch these
+kinds of bugs. Remove the two calls, which fixes the assertion.

Bug#400632: x11-common: should not ship a SUID root binary

2006-11-27 Thread Laurent Bonnaud
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-7
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

x11-common installs the /usr/bin/X wrapper with SUID root permissions:

-rwsr-sr-x 1 root root 18416 2006-11-19 01:58 /usr/bin/X

This is fine on a workstation where one wants a X server. However, on
a server that does not need a X server, but only X clients, this is a
security risk that I would prefer not to worry about (BTW, see bug
#396958).

Bug#362246: fixed in xorg-server 1:1.0.2-5

2006-11-27 Thread Luca Capello
Hello!

I'm cc:ing all the people intersted in this bug report (and the
not-yet-merged #356883 [1]) just to be sure they're aware of the
situation.

On Tue, 18 Apr 2006 11:17:43 +0200, Luca Capello wrote:

Actually, not only the bug should be merged with #356883 [1], but it
should be moved to xserver-xorg-core and marked as fixed since version
2:1.1.1-9, as per /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-core/changelog.Debian.gz:

I'm going to do this in one week from now if no one replies
differently.

Thx, bye,

This sounds like bug #392453. With the updated packages installed,
compiz now displays correctly on my PowerBook.
