It would be nice if you could attach gdb to the X server and get a
backtrace with that (you can only do this from a remote login).

Also, in order to try and reproduce the problem, it might be helpful to
know which desktop environment and what kind of application mix you're
running and whether it seems to happen (more likely) when doing anything
in particular, or completely randomly.

Bug#407007: x11-common: random X crashes - miSetShape

2007-01-16 Thread Calum Mackay

hi Michel, thanks for the reply.

It would be nice if you could attach gdb to the X server and get a
backtrace with that (you can only do this from a remote login).

I'll try to set that up. It only happens every few days, however.

Also, in order to try and reproduce the problem, it might be helpful to
know which desktop environment and what kind of application mix you're
running and whether it seems to happen (more likely) when doing anything
in particular, or completely randomly.

I'm running GNOME, and my system is kept 100% uptodate with unstable.

As for applications, the main ones are my nightly cvs builds of the
mozilla apps: Firefox, Thunderbird Sunbird. Also gaim. Occasional
OpenOffice, and a host of xterms.

cheers,
calum.

Bug#278372: xserver-xfree86: X server crashes with Fatal server error: Freeing resource id=42A05A0 which isn't there

Hey Brice -

I have not seen this bug recently, no. In fact, I believe the problem
may have been caused by a faulty memory system on my machine. Please
feel free to close this bug --- and thanks for checking!! ;-)

Bug#407189: libxkbfile1: does not change key autorepeat state

2007-01-16 Thread Christophe Rhodes
Package: libxkbfile1
Version: 1:1.0.3-2
Severity: normal

When doing something like
  xkbcomp $DISPLAY /tmp/xkb
edit /tmp/xkb to change key autorepeat state
  xkbcomp /tmp/xkb $DISPLAY
to change some keys' autorepeat state as viewed by the X server, the
autorepeat states are silently unchanged.

I believe that this is because the code which would be responsible for
changing the state is commented out:
  #ifdef NOTYET
  ...
  #endif
in XkbWriteToServer in srvmisc.c.

My IBM X40 Thinkpad has two keys which I would like to turn into Hyper
and Super modifiers; however, their default state is to autorepeat, and
I can't turn this off using xkbcomp. (Using xset -r keycode works,
however, as does generating an XkbSetControls request manually).

I'd be happy to provide more information or provide sample files if that
would help.

Hello,

XFree86 DPMS blanking is behaving strangely. When the server moves to
power off mode, my monitor will turn off and then back on about once
every 2 seconds about 30 times. Then it will finaly settle down into
its off state. I am using
xset dpms 0 0 1200
in my .Xsession but the same problem exists if I use the options in
XF86Config as well.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,
Tyler Riddle

 I have the line
 OptionAutoRepeat 170 30
in my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file but it doesn't seem to take effect.
When my window manager starts up the repeat rate is very slow. If I
 run
 xset r rate 170 30
after logging in, the delay and repeat rate are correct. I asked on
debian-user and no one seemed to know why this was happening, so I
assume this is a bug but I would not be surprised if I didn't have it
 setup correctly.

I have a problem running X server on my debian box. I ran the
xf86config application and set up the configuration, but when I tried to
start the server (xinit or startx), it crashed. The log file is
attached. Note that the video card I am using is as follows:

Matrox MGA-G200 (8192KB RAM)

It seems that my configuration is incorrect, but I don't know what part
of it is causing the server to crash.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 2.2.20, and libc6 2.3.1

Cheers,
ange

Hi,

Lines are not rendered correctly on S3 Trio64V+, they are drawn to a point
different from the one specified to the XDrawLine function. This can e.g. be
seen in the xclock program. I have also written a small sample program to
demonstrate the problem (see below); it should draw an almost horizontal
line [(0,0) to (200,1)], but does in fact draw from (0,0) to roughly
(200,100).

Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.1.0-16woody5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Just updated (stable) my clamshell iBook and after rebooting XFree86 failed on
startup.
It would flash 3-4 times then go into single user mode. I have *not* modified
the default
XF86Config-4 file installed via the update at this time.

Comments/Problems:
This machine can view 1024x768, and I choose vesa as VideoCard ,input
frequency of LCD(H28-96, V50-75, get this value by using KNOPPIX) at
installation.
But default resolution is set to 800x600 and /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
doesn't have 1024x768 entry at Screen section, only 800x600 and 640x480.
So I add 1024x768 entry as follows.
SubSection Display
Depth 24
Modes 1024x768 800x600 640x480
 ~add
EndSubSection
After reboot, I can change resolution to 1024x768.

Thank you for amazing OS!

TOKUNAGA, Dai([EMAIL PROTECTED]

Closing this bug since it is just a matter of the radeon driver in xfree
not finding the best resolution. Radeon 7500 support got improved a lot
since then, there shouldn't be any problem nowadays. If you ever
reproduce this problem, feel free to reopen.

Bug#181423: there's an xorg.conf option for that

2007-01-16 Thread Andrew Young
according to the man page ob the xorg keyboard driver kbd,
there is an option to change the keyboard delay and rate.

 Option AutoRepeat delay rate
sets the auto repeat behaviour for the keyboard.
This is not implemented on all platforms.
delay is the time in milliseconds before a key starts repeating.
rate is the number of times a key repeats per second.
   Default: 500 30.

 Maybe this helps.

Thanks! It certainly seems to solve my problem. (I set the argument
to 250 10.9 and it seems to work in the VCs as well as in X.)

Bug#295042: /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86: cannot use keyboard in gdm or kdm after fresh install of sarge

2007-01-16 Thread Braden Temme

Brice,

I vaguely remember the problem. I know I somehow fixed it, but I don't
quite remember what it was. The solution might of been related to the conf
file for X. Might as well go ahead and close it.

Hi,

About 2 years ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS
regarding unusable keyboard in gdm or kdm after sarge install, possibly
related to the mouse configuration. Did any of you guys reproduce this
problem recently? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#287798: xserver-xfree86: debconf doesn't always choose optimal monitor characteristics automatically

hello Brice!

I since switched to Debian/sid-Kanotix which has tweaked scripts to
configure, among others, the x-server. (knxcc and change-res) and
installing binary drivers for NV and ATi.
That got me to 100Hz refresh. Luckily for me the monitor finally died
and I got a Samsung 204B (1600x1200 flat screen )
where refresh rates are not as important due to the missing phosphor
persistence.

I still thinks the Debian configuration refuses to use anything over
75Hz refresh, but as CRT's are going the way of the Dodo bird this may
perhaps not be a problem.

I think you can close it.

It wasn't resolved while we used that system, and it was rebuilt about
a year ago with a new video card, so I'm not able to test it now.

Thanks for checking though,

I use the x.org server now and it still happens, but not as often.
Last time was over a month ago.
