Please map French Canadian (cf) to ca (Canada) layout in
 xserver-xorg.postinst.
This applies for about 7 million people.

That change is really not invasive. We could even convince the release
teamthat it is OK for etch...

Committed anyway.

I hope that noone says that this is again a sign of support and
sympathy for the Quebec autonomists

Bug#367947: Ultra10 X Problems after dist-upgrade

2007-01-26 Thread Brice Goglin
Stewart Stremler wrote:
It changes, in that it but it's not better. It complains about the
DRI module not being loaded instead of complaining about screen 0
 not being DRI capable.

Right, AIGLX won't be enabled, but it is not important.
The possibly bad warnings that remain are:

 INVALID IO ALLOCATION b: 0x2c00400 e: 0x2c004ff correcting
(WW) VGA(0): Cannot read colourmap from VGA. Will restore with default

Well, the Invalid IO Allocation warning is still there. :-/

I see various reports containing this error in Google, but nobody really
says whether it is bad or not.

But there is something strange, you have lots of line like:
(II) VGA(0): Not using default mode 640x350 (insufficient memory
 for mode)
 followed in the end by:
(WW) VGA(0): Mode pool is empty
All this could be caused by:
 (==) VGA(0): videoRam: 64 kBytes.
Your ATI board probably has much more memory than that (maybe 8MB). The
ATI driver should detect it fine. If not, we could even hardcode it in
 xorg.conf.

Hm. The dmesg output says it has 4M SGRAM, if I read the output
 correctly. ( http://www.stremler.net/temp/Debian/03/save-dmesg )

And your latest Xorg.0.log says that Xorg detects this memory fine,
thanks to the ATI driver.

Let's see what you get with the ATI driver, the other warnings might be
related to the VGA driver. Try without DRI first.

Okay. I now get a new and different behavior: an all black screen. I
commented out the 1600x1280 resolutions ('cuz it's an older CRT that
might not handle it, I guessed), and no change. Oh, and it beeps at
 me -- I can't alt-Fn or control-alt-Fn to another virtual desktop.

Are you sure that your vertical and horizontal sync ranges are ok? Or
did you just choose them randomly? Do you by chance remember what you
had in XF86Config when it worked? Looking at the /etc/X11/XF86Config*
files that remains on your machine might help, we never know...

Also, you could eventually try much lower resolutions. Once we'll have
found a working setup, even very minimal, it might be better to fix the
remaining problems.

Just to be sure, could you look at http://wiki.debian.org/XorgOnSparc
and see whether it talks of some hardware you have?

There are still things about DRI in your Xorg.0.log, apparently caused
by AIGLX being enabled by default. You could try add Option AIGLX
false to the ServerLayout section and see what happens. But there are
very few chances that it actually helps.

I am running out of ideas here, apart from trying a 2.6 kernel.
Eventually, you could install xserver-xorg-video-vesa and try the vesa
driver instead of ati.

Brice

 Hi Sami,

About 2 years ago, you reported a problem to the Debian BTS regarding a
segfault of the X server during large pixmap allocation on a Radeon

this bug in the next weeks.

Hi,

Sorry about taking some time to respond. I don't have the card
anymore, but I talked with a friend who has a similar (but apparently
not exactly the same) card and could test the bug. Cc:ing to him.

Hmmm, sounds like what made a lot of noise here in France (the

autonomy) did not get *that* much attention on your side as you didn't

Bug#407007: x11-common: random X crashes - miSetShape

2007-01-26 Thread Calum Mackay

hi Michel,

some progress at last; appended.

I did notice that it happened as Thunderbird (nightly cvs build) popped
up its biff window, which appeared, but did not get painted. I was not
moving the mouse at the time of the crash, nor were there any other
screen updates occurring. I have a vague impression that this matches
previous instances, but can't be sure.

Awaiting further instructions.

cheers,
calum.

Package: xserver-common
Version: 4.1.0-16woody1
Severity: normal

Recently I installed KDE 3.2 (woody packages from kde.org). It quickly
occured, that leaving the computer with screensaver running for longer
time leads to X server crashes, mentioned in kdm.log in the following
way:
   Fatal server error:
   Caught signal 11. Server aborting

After some investigation I found the note, that since KDE 3.2, kde
screensaver uses DPMS mode. It seems that while entering one of DPMS
modes, the X server crashes.

I use Matrox Millenium II (MGA 2164W) videocard (with X driver mga)
and the Philips Brilliance 180P2 flat monitor. Apart from setting
   Option DPMS
I did not configure any dpms options.

I will just disable DPMS support as workaround so this bug is not
critical, but it requires some examination. In case I can do something
to help, please let me know which kind of test or information would be
useful.

There is no manual page available for the X program. While there is an
X(7x), it does not describe the X program but rather the X Window
System as a whole. It seems like Xserver(1x) describes the X program,
perhaps make a symlink to that manpage?

Bug#197156: xfree86: dexconf and xfs should use x-ttcidfont-conf font paths by default

Currently most people use TrueType fonts via fontconfig and thats why
most programs can find their fonts even if the fontpath is
incomplete. However the font server has to include full font path or
else it won't be able to serve all fonts.

Currently dexconf includes the TrueType dir in FontPath. It doesn't
include however the path to the CID fonts and I don't know how
important is this.

Please look at

Yeah. As far as I remember, it was connected with the order linux
brings up its interfaces, but I don't remember the details. I'm not
using remote Xsessions anymore.

Try to set up more IPs on lo, and star with different than
127.0.0.1 (it was the way I was filtering out ad sites). Maybe you'll
find some unexpected behavior and will be able to produce something
similar to what I was reporting.

It takes 5 seconds on a 1.86GHz Pentium M with a Radeon X300 and Xorg
7.1 here... in a gnome-terminal. It even takes 10s in a xterm. I don't
actually find it slow... BUT, it takes 0.5 seconds in rxvt-unicode.
Which X terminal are you using ?

So this is not a X server problem, this is just a matter of how the X
terminal is implemented. So unless you have a good reason, I will close
this bug. You may want to complain to the developer of your X terminal...

Regardless of Xorg, please do not close this bug: Debian (stable) has
 XFree86 only, not Xorg.

XFree86 and Sarge won't get fixed anymore. I understand that Etch is not
released yet. But, keeping bugs that are fixed in testing is not really
that useful. Closing them with an explanation is not that bad.

Hello,

dexconf writes a FontPath /usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. However, there is no path CID in no Debian package
at all (neither in oldstable nor in unstable). So this is most likely
not needed (anymore).

Thanks for your work regards

There are some reports (such as

font path being useless nowadays. I don't know anybody having anything
in /usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID.

Package: xserver-common

I was unable to connect to a remote xdm, but only when it is outside a
broadcast domain. X crashes with a message:

Fatal server error:
XDMCP fatal error: Session failed Session failed for display
194-237-107-43.customer.telia.com:9: cannot open display.

I have nothing in common with this IP, so after further quick tcpdump,
I've discovered, that the negotiation is as follow:

MY.IP.MY.IP RE.MO.TE.IP XDMCP Query
RE.MO.TE.IP MY.IP.MY.IP XDMCP Willing

and here comes suspected packet:
MY.IP.MY.IP RE.MO.TE.IP XDMCP Request
with a connection field set to:
Version: 1
Opcode: Request (0x0007)
Message length: 121
Display number: 9
Connections (6)
 Connection 1: 194.237.107.43
 Connection 2: 193.42.228.75
 Connection 3: 212.75.96.183
 [...]

then a normal XDMCP Accept UDP packet.

The other side, of course, tries to connect to 194.237.107.43:6009/TCP,
and it, of course, fails.

Those six addresses are always the same, no matter which non-local
server I try to connect to.

I'm 99% sure this machine is not compromised, md5sum of /usr/bin/X11/X
is the same on every testing I'm able to check, and it's:

4f6c8f12266c7424a9125c259af41a39 /usr/X11R6/bin/X

I have a laptop with 4.3.0-7 version of xserver-common and it behaves as
 expected.

Woohoo! Thanks David! I'll start helping to get X11R7.2 into
experimental when I get a chance, although I'm dead busy with work over
the next couple of weeks.

I'll be working on the drivers over the coming week or so, and
hopefully I'll be able to hit the server too.

The last version of i810 with the small hurd fix hasn't been uploaded.
I didn't make it a priority since I figured hurd users won't run stable
anyway. Shall we push it into etch for consistency's sake?
