Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded or a different virtual desktop is selected
On Sun, Feb 18, 2007 at 01:18:18PM +0100, Brice Goglin wrote: About 2 years ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS regarding Xnest (quite randomly) crashing when switching between virtual desktop. I tried to reproduce with current Xorg 7.1 and Etch but I couldn't. Did any of you guys reproduce this problem recently? If so, could you give any hint about how to reproduce here. I don't have an Etch box with a head on it to reproduce yet. Unfortunately I can't really add any more than I put in the original bug report against Sarge. If you've sucessfully managed to run Xnest for a few hours while switching desktops in the course of normal use then I'd be happy for you to close the bug. -p -- Paul Gotch -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Any help on this particular point ? Btw, I both tried the Debian Etch shipped kernel 2.6.18-3 image, loading external fb/mga modules, and also customizing and compiling my own kernel 2 6.18-7 from patched sources. If needed, I could post the required .config statements... Let me know about. Here we go with the Xorg configuration and output: Well, matroxfb is said to be not so operational, but should be builtin, you could try a : video=matroxfb and see what it says. That said, this is a problem of the X server, which apparently doesn't know about pci domains or something, i am not sure it is really a bug or something else. Did you compile your X alone, or use the debian one ? Can you try removing the pci id line from your config file, so X detects the cards himself, and see what it says in the config files ? Vut debian-x is probably the better channel for this one. Friendly; Sven Luther -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'll check my other posts re xorg and kernel later. I don't know ATI PCI with PC x86 firmware can be used. Will try this in headless etch machine first after current versions of xserver and a kernel that does not crash. Lack of a reset button is a serious problem on the SB100 as I can not enter firmware with L1-A and there is no panic for an automatic restart. Bug#348639: xfs preinst and postinst scripts stop daemon but fail to restart it
Salutations, I must say this bug is not the sort of thing you get an error message for. Basically what happens is if you perform an upgrade to Debian which upgrades the font server, the font server is stopped by the preinst script, then the new files are extracted, but then it appears that the server is not restarted by the postinst script. To show what the end result of this is, let's say you run a dist-upgrade then try to restart X later. If, like me, you use the font server as your font path to avoid having to manually configure font directories, you will find that X cannot start the next time because the font server is not running. Since normally one is not used to package upgrades having such cryptic side effects, I filed this bug after I noticed the problem persisted through about 2-3 font server upgrade cycles that occurred back at that time. Bug#181423: there's an xorg.conf option for that
Andrew Young wrote: according to the man page ob the xorg keyboard driver kbd, there is an option to change the keyboard delay and rate. Option AutoRepeat delay rate sets the auto repeat behaviour for the keyboard. This is not implemented on all platforms. delay is the time in milliseconds before a key starts repeating. rate is the number of times a key repeats per second. Default: 500 30. Maybe this helps. Thanks! It certainly seems to solve my problem. (I set the argument to 250 10.9 and it seems to work in the VCs as well as in X.) Do you consider this as just a workaround and the bug is still there? Or is the bug really resolved? I'd say it's a workaround, and the bug is still there. Unless the behavior I experienced is intended, and clearly explained (along with the workaround) in the documentation, I'd say it's a bug. -- Andy Young -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#390172: Bug still exists in 1.1.1-17
Matthew Wakeling wrote: Hi all. Julien asked me to check if the bug still exhibits if I use the open-source nvidia drivers instead of the closed-source drivers. The answer is yes, it does. Exactly the same thing happens. I have attached my config and log files. Seeing this failure while loading int10 reminds me of other problems that we were able to diagnose by looking at stderr of X (symbol linking problems). Could you try to reproduce after redirecting both the stdout and stderr of X to files and send us these files ? Bug#348639: xfs preinst and postinst scripts stop daemon but fail to restart it
Matt R Hall wrote: Salutations, I must say this bug is not the sort of thing you get an error message for. Does it fail to restart if you just reinstall your currently installed xfs? Which version do you have? Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Eventually, you could install xserver-xorg-video-vesa and try the vesa driver instead of ati. Hi Stewart, Is there anything new about this bug? Did you manage to look at what I said above? Sorry, got a little busy. I let the system choose the horizontal and vertical sync ranges; however, it *used* to come up with the black-and-white stippled background with the X cursor, which implies (to me) that the sync values are okay, 'cuz that's what I expect to see when I type startx. I'm not sure the XF86Config values will be any good, as I did full purges of all things X and then reinstalled a few times. Using control-alt-keypad-{+/-} should step through the resolutions, so I should get to a much lower resolution that way, yes? It doesn't work, but it beeps like mad when I hit the alt key anyway, and I can't even alt-Fn or control-alt-Fn, so there's something screwy about the input now. The Wiki has a mention of someone using an Ultra10, but having to disable some sort of card. I have not chased this down, as I don't know if I have that card, nor what the card would look like, nor am I sure my work would like my playing with the hardware like that. That does seem to be the most promising line at the moment, however. IIRC, I added the Option AIGLX false as recommended, and as you guessed, no change. I have not tried installing the 2.6 kernel (I'd like to hear of someone running 2.6 on an Ultra10 first, as I had very bad luck with that from before). I have not tried the xserver-org-video-vesa yet (I had wanted to try that before responding, and then Stuff Came Up, and it got pushed off my plate for the moment). I truly appreciate the efforts you've made in trying to chase this down. I hope I can solve this before the whole issue is rendered moot, as long-running problems are apt to be overcome by events. Thanks again. I meant to find out if you were going to be at SCALE, but I forgot to ask. Were you, by any chance? -Stewart -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
