Bug#420402: Getting a better backtrace.

2007-05-01 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

That backtrace doesn't seem very meaningful, maybe using a core dump
backtrace would be better. Try to enable core dump and then get the backtrace
from there. http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/XserverDebugging has some
tips.

  Thanks

Bug#421697: ATI Radeon x300 doesn't work anymore after upgrade

2007-05-01 Thread Brice Goglin
Florian Weimer wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg-core
 Version: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-3

When upgrading from xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-21, the screen remains
blank. Log file is attached. Switching back to the console is
possible, but the screen remains blank.

This happens with and without an xorg.conf.

 (II) LoadModule: ati
 (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//ati_drv.so
 (II) Module ati: vendor=X.Org Foundation
   compiled for 7.1.1, module version = 6.6.3
   Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.0

Hi Florian,

Could you try with the ATI driver currently in experimental (6.6.191)?

Also, what kind of monitors do you have plugged to this ATI board? There
are a couple known breakages related to the new xserver-xorg-core since
the ATI driver needs a little bit of update.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#375553: xserver-xorg: Server freezes switching to console and back

2007-05-01 Thread Brice Goglin
Nicola Girardi wrote:
 The problem persists.

Example: I log into tty1 and then I start X in the background:

 $ startx  /dev/null

At some point I go back to tty1 and open, say, mutt:

 $ mutt

Then I read mails and go back to X. Suppose I go back to tty1 and find new
mail. After reading I go back to X once again, and I find that the only
window I can do something on is the one that was active before going back to
tty1 the last time. After closing it, everything is frozen.

This is just an example. From my experience, I conjecture that if something
happens in the console from which I start X, while I'm on X, then switching
to the console and then to X freezes X. In fact, I work this problem around
 like this:

Log into some far away console, /dev/tty10, start X in the foreground:

 $ startx

and never come back to it do do any operation. (Switching to tty10 to see
what's going on there, error messages and so on, is fine.)

Hope this helps, if you need more information, just let me know.

Ok thanks, which driver do you have installed? I guess it's
xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.9.1-4?

The latest upstream release is currently in experimental
(xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.9.3-1), so it would be good to test it.
However, the changelog is pretty small so there are few chances your
problem gets fixed. At least, once we know the problem occurs with the
latest upstream, we will be able to forward this bug upstream at
bugzilla.freedesktop.org.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#421418: Please provide the chipset info.

2007-05-01 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

Please, could you be so kind to provide the chipset info. You have two
options: the already suggested by Brice:
   /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script 31
and send the output or alternatively send: lspci |grep VGA

If you chipset is and intel 855GM I suggest to merge this bug with
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=417860 as I think they are
the same.

  Thanks

Bug#420532: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: Acecad USB Tablet misconfigured by evdev in X, but correctly configured by kernel

2007-05-01 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Giuseppe,

This evdev bug has been marked as fixed-upstream because upstream thinks
it has been fixed for a while (see
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2758). So the fix should be
in 1.1.5. Could you try the xserver-xorg-input-evdev currently in
experimental (1:1.1.5-1) ?

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#421772: xserver-xorg: EDID takes precedance over DisplaySize

2007-05-01 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-18
Severity: normal

Today I found that the EDID values are used instead of the values from the
DisplaySize directive in xorg.conf. That's
not how it used to be. Passing a -dpi argument to the server still overrides
everything.

Bug#421772: xserver-xorg: EDID takes precedance over DisplaySize

2007-05-01 Thread Brice Goglin
reassign 421772 xserver-xorg-core
found 421772 2:1.2.99.903-1
thank you

Vincent Lönngren wrote:
Today I found that the EDID values are used instead of the values from the

not how it used to be. Passing a -dpi argument to the server still overrides
 everything.

You appear to be running a release candidate Xserver (1.2.99.903 is
1.3-rc3), is there any chance you try with the final release, aka
xserver-xorg-core currently in unstable (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-3)?

Thanks,
Brice

Test for existence of debian/patches directory before creating a symlink to
it.

This prevents packages that apply no patches from ending up with a broken
symlink in them.

Remove SVN keyword.

Bug#421772: xserver-xorg: EDID takes precedance over DisplaySize

2007-05-01 Thread Vincent Lönngren
tis 2007-05-01 klockan 14:05 +0200 skrev Brice Goglin:
You appear to be running a release candidate Xserver (1.2.99.903 is
1.3-rc3), is there any chance you try with the final release, aka
 xserver-xorg-core currently in unstable (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-3)?

 Thanks,

Ok I just tried it, and the behaviour is the same.

Bug#375553: xserver-xorg: Server freezes switching to console and back

2007-05-01 Thread Nicola Girardi
Ok thanks, which driver do you have installed? I guess it's
 xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.9.1-4?

Correct.

I used apt-src to get and build the relevant packages from unstable,
and the problem persists. Here's a partial list of the packages I
have installed. If this feedback is enough I will revert to the
etch version of the packages.

Bug#421783: xorg: human interface freeze with nv driver while running glx applications

2007-05-01 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.2-3
Severity: normal

Observation:
The human interface freezes, which means:
1) no screen updates
2) no keyboard led updates
3) no reaction on any keyboard input (like ctrl-alt-backspace or -del)
4) music player continues playing songs (= no system freeze)

Steps to reproduce:
Run Google Earth. It might also work with running a game wine (with
glx). The human interface should instantly freeze then.

Please note that the logfile is supposed to end in Backtrace: as this
reflects the state of the file on my disk.

Also note that I think it to be a heisenbug, so it might already have
disappeared.

A short answer of other who can or cannot reproduce this bug would be
helpful, so if you happen to have a similar setup, please just try!

Helmut Grohne

Bug#421795: xserver-xorg-core: Reports wrong version number

2007-05-01 Thread Thomas G. Mayfield
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-3
Severity: normal

Xorg -version returns:
X Window System Version 1.3.0

when it should really be 7.2.x, from what I can tell.

This definitely keeps the proprietary ATI graphics driver from working.
It refuses to run after a version mismatch, and it won't compile for
1.3.0.

I've had to add sources from testing, and use xserver-xorg-core from
there, which reports verion:

Xorg -version returns:
X Window System Version 1.3.0

when it should really be 7.2.x, from what I can tell.

This definitely keeps the proprietary ATI graphics driver from working.
It refuses to run after a version mismatch, and it won't compile for
1.3.0.

I've had to add sources from testing, and use xserver-xorg-core from
there, which reports verion:

Salut Brice,

unfortunately I don't have access to this hardware anymore. It was
already a rare, old card at the time I wrote this bug report so I don't
think many people are still facing this issue five years later.

The problem of course still exists, I'm using a patched version for
etch. I didn't try xorg 7.2 but I seriously doubt anything was changed
there.

I could try something in the unstable series if you want to - but that
will become a bit difficult since I don't have permanent access to
that computer and the owner is interested in a usable system.

Etch already contained 1.2.3 (latest upstream, the one in Xorg 7.2).
There's nothing more recent to try, except git snapshots, but I don't
see anything specific to your board committed recently.

The trident driver for XFree 4.1 works fine with the Cyber9385 video
chip of my box... excepted that the screen synchronization is totally
awful, displayong almost 2 lines on 1 (the beam does ~2 left-right
passes for one line of pixels).

There isn't any suspect error/warning in the log, but I'm keeping one in
my fridge.

Note that the mouse moving area seems to be the whole screen (not the
duplicated one), and the cursor displays perfectly.

With xserver-svga (3.3.6-38), it works normally.

Hi,

I guess this bug still occurs nowadays? It has been discussed in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1752 even if the title
doesn't say so. Debian bug #296620 is also discussed there, but they
should not actually be merged.

Using a Logitech MX500 mouse (USB), I find that the server is getting the
number of buttons wrong (too high). This happens even if I explicitly tell it
how many buttons there are. Here is the relevant section of the log showing the
server reading one value, then declaring a different one:

No, it won't: Etch has been released and this fix is not critical,
that's to say not important enough to justify an update for the stable

For the record, I agree on that.

Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
Version: 1:1.0.1.3-2
Severity: important

When launching a second X server (e.g. using startx -- :1), for the
second X Server the keyboard behaves badly. Pressing arbitary keys
results in the resolution to be switched around (like what usually
happens with Ctrl + Alt + +/-). No characters are printed.
Everything works fine for the first X server.

I have a Microsoft Natural keyboard pro connected through USB.
The keyboard section of my xorg.conf file is:
Section InputDevice
  Driver kbd
  Identifier Keyboard0
  OptionCoreKeyboard
  Option XkbLayout de
  Option XkbModel microsoftpro
  Option XkbRules xorg
EndSection
[..]
Section ServerLayout
  [..]
  InputDevice Keyboard0 CoreKeyboard
EndSection

No other keyboard is available.

Xorg.1.log reads normal:
(II) LoadModule: kbd
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/kbd_drv.so
(II) Module kbd: vendor=X.Org Foundation
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.1
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.5
A diff between the log of the first (good) and the second (bad) X server
does not show anything odd.

Things used to work with earlier releases. I think things broke during a
recent update, but I might be wrong. It might have appened already
during an earlier one.

Best regards

Ben

That's a lot of information. Basically, I have a dual monitor setup
using two cards, a AGP Radeon and a PCI S3Virge/VX. Both cards work by
themselves, and the Radeon will even successfully use direct rendering
and accelleartion -- very nice. They will not, however, run together
with two screens unless I disable the Load dri module. This causes a
nice system crash -- total lockup for all terminals, though it is still
possible to term in and reboot the machine (but restarting or killing
the processes will not allow you to restart X or get back to a regular
terminal).

The below config is an example that works -- dri is
commented out. If I enable that one line it will lock the whole system.
The log doesn't say much about an error, but the last thing it tries to
do is load /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/librac.a then crashes and hangs all
local terms.

Not really a show stopper in the grand scheme of things,
since I can still run one configurations or the other -- dri enable for
one screen or no dri and have both screens, but I thought I'd report
this anyway.

Bug#401524: xorg hangs on Ultra1 with cgsix card

2007-05-01 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

What's the status of this Xorg hang on Ultra1 with a cgsix board? The
driver did not change a lot for a while. I don't even see where the
problem with default depth not being 8 has been fixed as Jurij reported.

So unless the bug got magically fixed by upgrading to xserver-xorg-core
1.3 (currently in unstable), I guess we should forward this bug upstream?

Thanks,

Bug#390913: Problem still present in 2.0.0-1

2007-05-01 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Hello,

since there are opposite reports about this problem, I'd like to let
you know that this problem still persists, using:

xserver-xorg 7.2-3
xserver-xorg-core1.3.0.0.dfsg-3
xserver-xorg-video-i810 2.0.0-1

The problem instantly disappears after downgrading to 1.7.2-4 from testing,
though even with this version, suspending has the sideeffect, that the
mouse-cursor becomes invisible, so I have to restart gdm to use my
mouse again.

Hi Ariel,

About a year ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding the
screen turning while with out of range hsync on the via driver. Did you
reproduce this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? If not, I will close
this bug in the next weeks.

Thanks,
Brice

This bug was corrected in an upstream version of the driver. It's
working reasonably well (although 3D is very buggy) in version 1:0.2.1-6
0. Please go ahead and close this bug.

Ariel

Yes, it's a known problem, the output is sent to the other monitor even
if you don't have one :)
Expected to be fixed in the next release of the driver.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-via
Version: 1:0.1.33.2-3
Severity: important

Using the via driver causes my screen to turn white and freeze up my system.
The xserver log (included below) reports that the hsync is out of range for
every
resolution and reports a bad mode clock. The log also reports an Unknown
Card-Ids error as well. Older versions of the driver (prior to my upgrade to
Xorg
version 7) have also had this problem. I'm running Debian on an Averatec
3715-EH1 laptop, if that helps. I've also tried booting with both the noapic
and
acpi=off kernel options, but those have had no effect.

Bug#420402: Getting a better backtrace.

2007-05-01 Thread Joey Hess
Raúl Sánchez Siles wrote:
That backtrace doesn't seem very meaningful, maybe using a core dump
 backtrace would be better.

How could a core dump backtrace be different or better?
It seems pretty clear that it's jumping the the xf86SigHandler and
losing all prior stack info before that.

I do have a useful bit of info though. The crash only happens with my
old xorg.conf. I let a new one be generated, and blobwars runs ok.

The relevant change seems to be running at 24 bpp. If I switch it back
to 16 I can reproduce the crash again.

Bug#401524: xorg hangs on Ultra1 with cgsix card

2007-05-01 Thread John Zbesko
The last action I took was to successfully build a debug version of
the driver from source. Unfortunately, there is no bug in the sense of
the program crashing or hanging or writing statements to an error log
file. The monitor just goes dark and the computer thinks it working
fine.

I am willing to work on this, but I need help. Can anyone suggest where
further debugging statements could be added?

On Wed, 2007-05-02 at 00:55 +0200, Brice Goglin wrote:

 Thanks,
 Brice

Bug#401524: xorg hangs on Ultra1 with cgsix card

2007-05-01 Thread Andre' Breiler
Hi,

I did experiment a bit with it finding the following:
- kernel 2.4.x + XFree86 works
- kernel 2.6.x + XFree86 fails (as in X is working but screen goes blank)
- kernel 2.6.x + XOrg fails too
.

I didn't get time to test a Xorg with a 2.4.x kernel but looking at the
driver changes in X I'd expect that working as well.

If you need someone to test I'm happy to play with it (I don't have a
Ultra 1 anymore but a Ultra 2 and same gfx card).

  Thanks,
  Brice

Bug#421854: libx11-6: opera: xcb_xlib.c:52 xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion 'c-xlib.lock' failed.Aborted

2007-05-01 Thread Branden Robinson
Package: libx11-6
Version: 2:1.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi Mr. Kroeger,

I am no longer intensely involved in X Window System packaging for Debian.
In the future, you can use the reportbug command from the Debian package
of the same name to file bugs. It's interactive and very user-friendly,
and will help you file a high-quality bug report.

As I understand it, the XCB-linked Xlib has not yet propagated into
unstable, so you must be running experimental libx11-6 packages.

[Note to XSF: If I don't get to it first, please change the submitter on
this report to Charlie Kroeger [EMAIL PROTECTED] as soon as
it is convenient.]

I wrote the Opera Linux newsgroup and their man: Eirik Byrkjeflot Anonsen

Ouch! This is a bug in xlib. Some people have been adding a new
interface to X with some improvements over the old xlib stuff. The
error message above says that the sequence of calls into xcb (the new
interface) is wrong. Opera doesn't use xcb directly, so this is
almost certainly a bug in xlib.

I didn't know exactly where to file this report so I send it to you,

Thanks for all your work on Debian.

Bug#421697: ATI Radeon x300 doesn't work anymore after upgrade

2007-05-01 Thread Florian Weimer
* Brice Goglin:

 Hi Florian,

Could you try with the ATI driver currently in experimental (6.6.191)?

Hi Brice,

thanks for you reply.

The current version of xserver-xorg-video-ati in experimental hasn't
been build yet for amd64. I'll try to build it and will report back.

Also, what kind of monitors do you have plugged to this ATI board?

Just one TFT, over DVI connectors.

Florian
