Seems to work fine on hurd-i386 too, except that

- the libhal-dev dependency should be [!hurd-i386]: we're far from
  having hal working on the Hurd.
- the mesa-swx11-source build-dep is (>> 7.0.1~rc2-1), but even the
  debian-experimental branch doesn't have a version greater that this,
  was it intended to be >= instead of >>?

Bug#435748: xkb-data: 0.9-4 -> 1.0~cvs.20070721-1 breaks assigning Alt_R to mod3

It's worked for a year or two now, but stopped working when I upgraded
xkb-data from 0.9-4 to 1.0~cvs.20070721-1 (it recently hit testing).
Reverting to 0.9-4 fixes this behavior.

I can reproduce this here with Xserver 1.3-11 and ati 6.6.192
(Thinkpad R52 with X300 board).
'xset q' says Enabled 600 600 600, so it confirms the above diagnostics.

BUT, I can't reproduce the problem ati randr-1.2 git (as of commit
7b3e22e96cfc98621bd20fa76317e6d8f7242165) on similar hardware.
After 'xset +dpms', 'xset q' says Enabled 10 20 30, and the display goes
black after 10 seconds, as expected.

So I wonder whether it could actually be driver-related and already
fixed upstream.

Brice

I don't have etch (or amd64...), but have Debian/testing - and lots
of versions of xterm. With that combination, I'm not seeing the
problem - whether it's in xterm or the X libraries.

If you have the time, compiling the xterm source (with the appropriate
options to match Debian's configuration) could perhaps get a usable
walkback from the debugger. I can offer advice on that...

I've been following upstream discussion about this. It looks like the
patch is being looked at, ported to new boards, probably needs some
changes for randr-1.2, ... So a better version of the patch might get
merged upstream in the near future. We are probably going to wait a bit
instead of applying it ourself right now.

People lived with this patch outside of Debian for several years
already, they probably can wait a couple month again :) Once ati driver
6.7 is released upstream, we'll push it to unstable and might put the
randr-1.2 branch in experimental quickly. The gatos might be merged
upstream soon at this point.

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-4
Severity: minor

Here is what happens when sh is linked to dash:
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
[: 31: ==: unexpected operator
xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
   file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20061018161248

And here when sh is linked to bash:
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
   file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20061018161411

In both cases the config file is correctly generated however. I am not
acquainted with the Debian package configuration so I cannot help more
than that.

During dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, the following is printed shortly
after monitor autodetection:

[: 31: ==: unexpected operator

This strongly suggests there is a bashism somewhere; /bin/[ does not
support the == operator and its functional equivalent, =, should be
used or the script should use #!/bin/bash instead of #!/bin/sh.

Package: xresprobe
Version: 0.4.22
Severity: important

The copyright file seems to imply that the package is written entirely
by Daniel Stone, however the source package includes ddcprobe, which
is compiled and installed to usr/bin/ddcprobe.

However this binary is produced with:
gcc -W -Wall  -g -O2  -o ddcprobe vesamode.o common.o x86-common.o lrmi.o vbe.o
ddcprobe.o

Which reveal the following:
x86-common.c
lrmi.c
MIT-ish license
Copyright (C) 1998 by Josh Vanderhoof

There is also:
minifind.c: * Copyright (c) 2002 Terra Soft Solutions, Inc.
GPL license, version unspecified.

x86emu/ has:
*   Copyright (C) 1996-1999 SciTech Software, Inc.
*Copyright (C) David Mosberger-Tang
*  Copyright (C) 1999 Egbert Eich

Please document these additional copyright statements and licenses in the
copyright file.

Also this is presently a native package, and I don't understand why.

Bug#319822: xterm crash

2007-08-02 Thread Alexandra N. Kossovsky
I can confirm this bug in Etch xterm (222-1etch2), amd64.
Moreover, I can reproduce it!

The following command crashes xterm (and uxterm as well).
LANG=C LANGUAGE=en LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 LC_COLLATE=C vi xxx
(all locale variables not mentioned in the command line are C or POSIX)

xterm error message:
xterm:  warning, error event received:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 77 (X_ImageText16)
  Value in failed request:  0x0
  Serial number of failed request: 370
  Current serial number in output stream: 374

Please note that "cat xxx" and "less xxx" behave correctly.
Opening th file with vi/vim crashes xterm.

One-line file "xxx" is attached (I've got it from the spambox).

Tell if you need more info. Thank you for your work.

Regards,
Alexandra.

2007-08-02 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

tags 361086 + patch
thanks

Here is a proposed patch to fix this issue. It also updates the FSF
address to the new one, getting rid of a lintian warning.
