Package: xorg-dev
Version: 1:7.3+7
Severity: minor

I was compiling the wacom driver from source and to be able to compile
the Xorg driver you need the Xorg libraries. I run

aptitude install xorg-dev

hoping it would pull all dev packages. However I got an error at
compile time saying that it was missing pixman.h

After installing libpixman-dev it worked*.

I couldnt find any bug reporting this so that's why I'm reporting

Thanks
Pablo

* I had to change -I include paths but that's wacom driver's fault I guess.

Bug#451648: mesa: configures for the build, not the host - broken cross builds.

2007-12-09 Thread Brice Goglin
Neil Williams wrote:
 Package: mesa
 Version: 7.0.2-2

 User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

*** Please type your report below this line ***

mesa appears to configure the package according to the DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE
which leads to bizarre behaviour when trying to cross build.
e.g. trying to cross build for arm in each case:
amd64 uses -m64 which is not recognised by arm-linux-gnu-gcc
i386 attempts to build x86 code
 powerpc - appears to proceed.

When cross building for arm, the package should configure as it would
on an arm box, independent of which architecture is being used to build
 for arm.

Some of the detection code may need to be changed upstream but during a
normal Debian build, --build == --host so this should not be difficult.

To cross build, mesa needs to look at the --host argument and maybe
fallback to --build only if --host is not given or is the same as
 --build.

The Mesa build system is horrible, I don't think anybody in the team
will seriously want to look at this problem unfortunately. There is a bit
of work being done upstream to cleanup things, but it will take time...

Yes - that does indeed fix the problem. Presumably this is a bug in EXA
 then?

Yes, we have seen multiple reports about rendering problems with EXA
 on fonts, icons, background, ...

You should test the patched intel driver from
http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/intel-exa/
It contains an important EXA fix for i855.

Bug#454922: compiz: Copy settings (e.g. keyboard shortcuts) from Metacity automatically

Manuel Bilderbeek wrote:
 Package: compiz
 Version: 0.5.2-2

When starting compiz as a replacement of Metacity, it's quite annoying
that all settings (e.g. keyboard shortcuts, number of virtual desktops)
are not working anymore. It would be a lot more user friendly if it were
a drop in replacement, keeping the settings you're used to working.

I don't think this is going to happen. Compiz and Metacity are not to
similar,
they are just 2 window managers that happen to be able to replace each
other.
This wishlist looks like asking Gnome and KDE to use the same settings...

If you really want this to happen, you should talk to the upstream
compiz dev
and see what happens...

When running urxvt (rxvt-unicode) with tabs enabled (in .Xresources
URxvt.perl-ext: tabbed) once I attempt to move the window, the title and
buttons dissapear and it is no longer possible to resize the window by
using the mouse on the border or move the window by dragging the title

using alt+left mouse button to move and ctrl+mouse to resize still works

I can't reproduce this here. It looks like

Which compiz versions did you try? does it work fine for any of them?

I can try, but in Ubuntu they're also talking about this:

Maybe we can lever on their efforts?

Bug#455225: /usr/bin/xrandr: please consider possibility to disable hardware detection

2007-12-09 Thread Marc Haber
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.3+2
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/xrandr

Hi,

when invoked, xrandr does detection of hardware capabilities and
connected monitors. This takes a few seconds to complete.

I have a script, xrandrauto, which invokes xrandr multiple times to
create the screen layout that I want to have. However, this script
takes like 30 seconds since xrandr repeats the detection process over
and over.

Please consider adding an option to disable the hardware detection and
to use whatever was detected the last time.

Greetings

Umerging and reopening since I still have this problem. Not sure if it's
a kernel or X.org problem though!

then, and don't know exactly when it broke.

Pressing the keys in an X session now only causes a short flicker, but
does not affect the brightness. However the KDE on-screen display
seems to think everything is fine since I can control the level it
reports.

Update: the on-screen display is now stuck at 42%.

I am now running kernel 2.6.24-rc4 with xserver-xorg-core
2:1.4.1~git20071119-1, xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.0-1 and

It doesn't matter if I set the brightness_enable=1 option to thinkpad-acpi.

Don't check if the device is a core device or not.

Remove call to xf86IsCore (doesn't exist anymore anyway) and unconditionally
try to generate ProximityEvents. The device should not bother whether it's a
core event or not, it's all handled in the dix now.

Bug#448467: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Thinkpad brightness keys don't work

2007-12-09 Thread Brice Goglin
Marcus Better wrote:
Update: the on-screen display is now stuck at 42%.

I am now running kernel 2.6.24-rc4 with xserver-xorg-core
 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1, xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.0-1 and
 thinkpad-acpi 0.18-20071203 (from patch):

 thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI Extras v0.18-20071203
 thinkpad_acpi: http://ibm-acpi.sf.net/
 thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad BIOS 7CETC7WW (2.17 ), EC 7CHT21WW-1.09
 thinkpad_acpi: Lenovo ThinkPad R60
thinkpad_acpi: radio switch found; radios are enabled
thinkpad_acpi: standard ACPI backlight interface available, not
 loading native one...

It doesn't matter if I set the brightness_enable=1 option to
 thinkpad-acpi.

Can you try the latest upstream git of the driver ? It contains some
backlight fixes.

Also, there is now 4 strategies to manipulate the backlight: kernel,
native, legacy or combination. The driver selects one by default
depending on the hardware. Which one do you get at startup? (look in the
output of xrandr --prop). Does it help if you change to another one,
with for instance xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL legacy ?

Also, if you think the kernel version matters, can you downgrade to
2.6.23 or 2.6.22?

Bug#455225: /usr/bin/xrandr: please consider possibility to disable hardware detection

2007-12-09 Thread Brice Goglin
Marc Haber wrote:
when invoked, xrandr does detection of hardware capabilities and
connected monitors.

Right, it would be nice, especially when calling xrandr blanks the screen
during a second or so.

Of course, patches would be wellcome :)

 OUTPUTLIST=
 for output in $(xrandr | sed -n '/[^[:space:]]\+
 connected/{s/\([^[:space:]]\+\).*/\1/;p;}'); do
   xrandr --output $output --auto
   OUTPUTLIST=$OUTPUTLIST $output
 done
 for output in $(xrandr | sed -n '/[^[:space:]]\+
 disconnected/{s/\([^[:space:]]\+\).*/\1/;p;}'); do
   xrandr --output $output --auto
 done

 if [ $OUTPUTLIST = VGA-0 LVDS ]; then
   xrandr --output VGA-0 --left-of LVDS
 elif [ $OUTPUTLIST = LVDS ]; then
   xrandr --output LVDS --pos 0x0
 fi

You should be able to call xrandr only twice here. One to get the output
and save it (and apply sed multiple times to compute OUTPUTLIST), and
one to pass --auto for all outputs and set their position.

Yes, it works when set to native or combination!

With kernel, the on-screen display does not show up at every press of
the brightness key, and it quickly gets stuck at 42%.

With legacy the on-screen display goes up and down but the brightness
is not changed.

This is so far with the current packaged video driver.

Bug#455313: xserver-xorg-video-sunffb: crashes when client disconnects

2007-12-09 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: xserver-xorg-video-sunffb
Version: 1:1.1.0-3
Severity: normal

When I running an X server using xserver-xorg-video-sunffb directly
from the command line (don't have anything installed currently and
only had an xserver installed to have xrandr 1.2 to test), the xserver
crashes when the first client disconnects.
Following a (slightly shortened) script of a gdb run. (sunffb has no -dbg
package, perhaps I'll find the time to recompile it with debugging symbols
later):

and from the header file:

So this looks like the write to pFfb - dac - cfg is failing. Looking at the

Thanks,

 Also, it would be
very good to catch a debugging backtrace with gdb.

I'll try. Watch this space :-)

Yeah, given the backtrace below, we need a better backtrace to identify
and report the exact problem. You should install xserver-xorg-core-dbg,
attach gdb to the X server, reproduce the crash, enter 'bt full' in gdb,
and send us the whole output.

The easiest way to do that is to login from another machine with ssh,
and attach with 'gdb -p $(pidof X)'.

I tried to install xserver-xorg 7.3 from unstable and it broke X. First the
error was that
it couldn't find module type1. I commented out load type1 in xorg.conf.
Then it told me

told me it
couldn't find mga. I have a matrox card and need mga so I gave up and reverted

These are just warnings, nothing bad.

You need to install xserver-xorg-video-mga.

If it doesn't work, please send the whole output of
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31

Bug#368560: mesa: material under SGI Free Software License B is not DFSG-free

 Hello,

Is there any progress on this issue ?
I packaged JOGL for Debian and would like to see it in Debian.
However, JOGL has the same files as mesa (translated to Java) under the
same license (SGI free license B).
Does anyone tried to contact the upstream ?

Basically no, there's no real progrss on the issue. I was speaking with
Brett Smith[0] from the FSF last night about it though, and they are very
interested in seeing the issue resolved. You may want to contact him if
you're really interested in working on it.

Bug#452268: patched xf86-video-intel-2.2.0/src/i830_3d.c (i830 render fix)

2007-12-09 Thread Jos van Wolput

I attached here a patched version of i830_3d.c
according to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=12993

Download xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.2.0.orig.tar.gz,
unpack and replace /xf86-video-intel-2.2.0/src/i830_3d.c by the attached
patched version,
./configure --prefix=/usr
./make
./sudo make install
and the i830 render failure will be fixed (tested only on a 855GM chip)!

Bug#455465: xresprobe: 100% cpu near thunk.c:92 x_outb

2007-12-09 Thread supaplex
Package: xresprobe
Version: 0.4.23debian1
Severity: normal

When I run ddcprobe, it'll hang after 1600x1200x256 for minutes on end
using 100%cpu time. I've included a backtrace after interrupting it
there. I rebuilt xresprobe from debian sources, and added the -ggdb
flags for gcc in the ddcprobe/Makefile for debugging.

Presently I have a pci card installed (oem: line) in favor of the
onboard card. I was going to see if a different pci video card would
work around #442771.

Thanks!
