Bug#451989: Alt-SysRq-k

2007-12-20 Thread Martin Lee
I've found that an Alt-SysRq-k (kill all processes on current virtual
console) is a much safer way to restart X after this error occurs.
Certainly safer than pulling the power.

I have this exact issue on a system running:

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//i810_drv.so

(II) Module i810: vendor=X.Org Foundation

compiled for 1.4.0, module version = 2.2.0

Module class: X.Org Video Driver

ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 2.0

Time to attempt a rollback, I think.

Martin

Bug#374026: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: Keyboard doesn't work yet...

2007-12-20 Thread Andrea Cavaglieri
Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
Version: 1:1.2.2-3
Followup-For: Bug #374026

Hi,

I'm afraid the bug isn't resolved, even with the new version (1:1.2.2-3).

Perhaps I understood when the bug happens: I use VMWare Workstation as host on
my Sid; after I change VMWare Workstation Console to full size, keyboard
doesn't work anymore (Ctrl,Shift,... don't work).

Ciao,
Andrea

Bug#457233: xserver-xorg-video-ati: freezes system after a few minutes with comiz on rv370

2007-12-20 Thread Xavier Bestel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.197~git20071219.ce4fa1ce-1
Severity: important

Hi,

this driver has always locked the machine randomly, but I could live
with it. The latest experimental version though is unusable: after a few
minutes the machine freezes (hard freeze, like a PCI bus lockup: not
even ping works, but the keyboard leds are blinking).
Note: the previous experimental version was more usable for me.

Frankly I really don't know what I can do to help, because once frozen
the machine is a brick. Does someone have a idea for that problem ?

Thanks,
Xav

There have been some changes regarding the default AGP mode (to fix some
lockup like yours on other boards). I guess it will help if you add
Option BusType PCI? Also, try changing your AGPMode in the Device
section (without Option BusType) and let me know which AGPMode works or not.

Thanks,
Brice

Re: Analysis On Getting Rid Of xresprobe

2007-12-20 Thread Timo Aaltonen

On Tue, 4 Dec 2007, David Nusinow wrote:

Potential Issues:
What we can assume from all this is that the drivers will call DDC on their
own, so why should we care about having xresprobe do it during the install?
Indeed, I've checked over several of the drivers and almost all of them
do use the DDC information during the PreInit. Of the various drivers that
are special-cased in the postinst, savage, trident, tdfx, via,
siliconmotion, chips, neomagic, ati/r128, and i810 all do use DDC. s3 does
not, and nv and riva do not either (although g80 is randr1.2). So for the
vast majority of chips that are special-cased for xresprobe they do use
DDC. nv is an obvious issue, but it's actively maintained and we should be
able to get bugs fixed. For newer chips, nv will not be a problem, as it's
ported to randr1.2.

There's a bug open about vmware (*), which seems to default to low
hsync/vrefresh values (or is it the server?). You end up with 800x600...
Maybe the driver could be patched to use 1024x768 by default? It doesn't
seem to use any DDC probing.

+Fix RN50 mode filtering.
+
+The old code would attempt to limit the maximum pixel size of the screen
+by limiting the maximum PLL frequency. This ends up confusing the PLL
+computation code since sometimes your maximum freq can be lower than your
+minimum freq. More to the point it's just wrong, maximum PLL frequency
+isn't the same thing as maximum pixel clock, and even that isn't the same
+thing as maximum scanout pixels per second.
+
+The correct thing to do is filter by the mode's effective memory bandwidth.
