Not sure if this has been noted, but if you czech
out /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-ati/NEWS.Debian.gz then you find:

"""
xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.7.197-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * The X.Org ATI driver supports RandR 1.2 which enables dynamic
enabling, disabling, resizing, rotating, placing, ... of multiple
outputs at runtime. You might want to update your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
accordingly. See http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12
and http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/dualhead.html for some help.

"""

Right at the top of the wiki page is my earlier suggestion of
commenting/wiping parts of xorg.conf. Should've stuck to my guns!

I guess this can be closed then as it's not really a bug..?

P.S. Happy new year!

Just after starting aptitude (version 0.4.4-1), I got strange colors

Yeah, my guess is that this is some sort of weird xfce issue. Running an
app from a launcher on the gnome panel shows that my test env variable is
present. You may want to ask the xfce folks.

Bug#458568: xserver-xorg-video-intel: random crashes seems caused by intel driver

2008-01-01 Thread Fathi BOUDRA
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0-1
Severity: important

  Hi,

I have experienced some random crash of my laptop and it seems caused
by the intel driver. When I switch to vesa driver, I don't have the
  crashes anymore.

I can reproduce it quickly by running glxgears. glxgears runs some
seconds with visual glitches, then locks with:
  intelWaitIrq: drmI830IrqWait: -16

After glxgears crash, the complete desktop contains glitches and
  finally the laptop crashes too.

I'm up for suggestions to determine if it's really the intel driver
  that causes this crash.

  cheers,

  Fathi

Bug#458432: xterm does not display Unicode glyphs beyond \uFFFF

2008-01-01 Thread Dr. Markus Waldeck
> I might have noticed this earlier, but was unfamiliar
> with fonts using codes past 0x.

The oldest known script is sumerian cuneiform.
I searched for free fonts and found George Douros fonts
which were included in Debian after an wnpp.

Fortunately the fonts use Unicode encoding
which I prefer since I studied in Japan.
According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_cuneiform)
sumerian cuneiform are included since Unicode 5.0.

> but TrueType fonts use a different interface, which apparently
> does not have the same limitation (that's how xfd is able to display
> the font).

Is it possibe to use this functionality in xterm?

Those hardlinks (event23->event13, event24->event14) were created by me.
With them everything works fine, but without I got logs like:
#v+
Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics event device found (checked 18 nodes).
#v-

EventAutoDevProbe() from eventcomm.c tries only 10 (hardcoded const
max_skip) devices in a row. Before creating hardlinks that meant event0
to event7 and 10 next (non-existant), while next existing device was
event23 (touchpad is event27, according to /proc/bus/input/devices).
Numbers probably increase each hibernate-resume cycle. Of course
touchpad works with mouse driver (with limited functionality).

exists in current Debian release.

After a 'switch user' on the console, the mouse locks for the second

Patch #230 - 2007/12/31

 * add quietGrab resource, which when true, suppresses cursor
repainting when NotifyGrab and NotifyUngrab event types are
received during change of focus (request by Nicolas George).
 * do not treat Unicode BIDI control characters as combining
   characters (Debian #457634).
 * add koi8rxterm, from Debian.
 * add manpage for uxterm, from Debian (Ubuntu #128136, Debian
   #438645)
 * remove ".xpm" suffixes from Icon filenames in desktop files since
it confuses some lookups following the [234]Icon Theme
   Specification (report by Slava Semushin)
 * correct width-calculation used for adjusting proportional fonts,
to work with wide-characters (Debian #441354).
 * fixes/improvements for double-size characters:
+ correct old clipping calculation which used total height of
glyphs where ascent was needed.
+ if bold font is unavailable, fall back to normal font
+ adjust to "work" with Xft (which does not support
double-width single-height characters).
+ restore reset of doublesize for a line when it is cleared,
broken in [235]patch #228.
 * modify logic for forceBoxChars resource when using TrueType fonts
to be consistent with bitmap fonts
 * modify logic for forceBoxChars resource to make the "Line-Drawing
Characters" menu entry use xterm's line-drawing characters even
asked to draw wide line-drawing characters which are available in
   the font.
 * modify rectangle-support functions to preserve colors when
filling/erasing (request by Enzo Toscano, to match WRQ Reflection
   behavior).
 * add getopt-parsing to tcapquery.pl, including feature to test the
   extended cursor/editing keys.
 * make missing double-width glyphs display as double-width (Debian
   #456236).
 * change tcap-fkeys and rectangles configure options to enable them
   by default.
 * hide the mouse pointer while user is typing (request by Rodolfo
   Borges).
 * extend configure options --enable-tcap-query and
--enable-tcap-fkeys to send cursor- and editing-keypad keys
modified according to the keyboard (or termcap) selection for
   shift, alt, control, meta.
 * modify kdch1 in termcap, e.g., xterm-r6 to match the terminfo
   file.
 * add -hm option to turn highlightColorMode on or off.
 * add highlightColorMode resource to separate the new (since patch
#225) highlighting with both text- and background-colors (prompted
   by report/example by Thomas Wolff).
 * add Keep Selection menu entry to turn the keepSelection resource
   on/off at runtime.
 * add keepSelection resource, which when enabled, tells xterm to
retain the X selection even after it stops highlighting it (patch
   by Sergey Vlasov).
 * extend the CSI > n sequence to allow disabling all types of
modified-keys that the CSI > m sequence affects.
 * move include for in resize.c to avoid redefinition of
termios structure on OpenSolaris (report by Rahul Gopinathan
   Nair).
 * extend terminfo building blocks for modified editing keys to
   include all six keys.
 * synchronize terminfo with ncurses (report by Stephane Chazelas):
  + equate xterm-xfree86 and xterm-xf86-v44.
+ add ncurses extensions OTbs, AX, for termcap conversions.
  + make old/legacy entries such as xterm-24, xterm-65 and
aliases xterms, vs100 inherit from xterm-old.
+ make xterm-r5 and xterm-r6 the same, ignoring historical
errors in X Consortium's version.
 * fix an ifdef in logic for selecting regular expressions while in a
   narrow-character locale (Debian #449227).

Bug#453844: xserver-xorg-video-ati: TV-out does not work on RS482 (Radeon Xpress 200M)

2008-01-01 Thread Brice Goglin

Linas Žvirblis wrote:

Just tested with 1:6.7.198~git20071223.ad3325f6-1, and it has only got
worse, I am afraid. The "load_detection" option makes absolutely no
difference, and now I cannot enable S-video at all:

Your VGA-0 output is marked as unknown (load detection on Xpress 200
board doesn't work well yet), it's using the second CRTC (the hardware
pipeline in the board). The internal panel (LVDS) uses the first CRTC.
So there is no CRTC available for S-video (only 2 are available for all
outputs).

You should disable VGA-0 so that one CRTC becomes available. If you
don't care at all about the VGA output, you should just add:

   Option "Monitor-VGA-0" "Foo"
to the Device section and add the following section above:
   Section "Monitor"
   Identifier "Foo"
   Ignore "true"
   EndSection

The upstream developers are well aware of this bogus load detection on
Xpress fortunatelly (that's why it says "unknown" in stead of a vague
"disconnected" as earlier). There are some other bug reports about this.
So I hope we can expect some fix soon.
