Bug#461457: xorg: Doesn't honour DisplaySize

thanks

It appears that this bug has already been reported upstream as bug
12474 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12474.
Apparently the DDC information is incorrectly taking precidence over
the DisplaySize configuration option. See
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/xserver.git;a=commit;h=48ca5961caee62f2980017a6bdc96a1b4c747727

Cheers,
Kevin

Bug#461649: Image shakes and shivers when content changes with Radeon RV100 QY (Radeon 7000/VE)

2008-01-20 Thread Brice Goglin
Stephen M. Benoit wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati

 Hello.

With Xorg 7.1.0-19, my Radeon RV100 QY (Radeon 7000/VE) displays a
shaky, flickering image whenever there is a change on the screen
(scrolling, cursor movement, update in gkrellm...).

For example, when I open an aterm, choose a large font and run:

 % dd if=/dev/urandom bs=512 | od -t x1 -A none

... the horizontal lines on my screen shake and shiver independently
and randomly left or right by at least 3 pixels. When everything
seems still, I observe several flickering lines per second.

I have tried using NoAccel and a slew of options documented in
radeon(4), but there was no improvement. Same problem whether I use
Linux kernel 2.6.20 or 2.6.23.14 using SMP(SMT) or UP. Using a lower
frame rate made no difference, nor did a lower resolution, nor
lowering the HorizSync or VertRefresh of the monitor description.

I am testing on 2 dual-boot (Debian Sarge, Debian Etch) single-head
workstations with identical hardware but different LCD (SVGA
connection) monitors. Both have the same behaviour. Under Sarge with
XFree86 4.3.0 (backport), the old radeon driver produces a stable
 picture.

Any ideas? Suggestions are welcome, I am including configuration
 information below.

Can you try a more recent xserver-xorg-video-ati? 6.6.3 is very old.
Either you upgrade your X.org to unstable, or you just rebuild
xserver-xorg-video-ati latest git against Etch. There's a quick howto
for building the latest git at
http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/10936.html
(replace intel by ati in the text). If you need help, let me know.

It's very likely that the xorg.conf doesn't specify which Monitor
sections goes with which output. We have multiple bugs about this, all
the recent ones were caused by this and solved by fixing xorg.conf.

We can't assume anything before seeing the config and log, so I am
reverting the bug status until Dirk sends all the required info.

Dirk, ping? Please send xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.

Your Monitor section is used for the VGA output. But you're using LVDS only.

In xorg.conf, try changing the Monitor identifier name from Default
Monitor to VGA. Or just add
Option Monitor-LVDS Default Monitor
to the Device section, it should work.

At least since the second last update xorg doesn't honour DisplaySize in
xorg.conf anymore. Independent of the value I set, e.g.

Section Monitor
Identifier Monitor
Option DPMS
DisplaySize 285 214
EndSection

with a resolution of 1024x768 would result in 91 dpi. But if I check
this with xdpyinfo it says 96dpi or whatever alse is the standard. Only
if I use a hard setted value in my xdm config I can get the correct
settings.

I managed to defrost some applications by resizing them. Bigger apps
especially maximized ones appears to work normally. The biggest problem
is with very small windows.

I tested also kde4. There is littlebit better but still unusable. I'm
almost certain that problem is the indirect pcbuf to texture rednering,
because it DRI pixbuf to texture is not supported by fglrx.

I saw a crash with a similar backtrace. I worked around the problem
with:

I'm sorry but I didn't think to save a copy of ~/.gconf before I did
this. Attached Xorg.20.log.old contains the stack trace and xorg.conf is
the configuration.

Bug#450851: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: mouse pointer moves down-right in captured state

2008-01-20 Thread Michael Gebetsroither
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Version: 1:1.2.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #450851

Hi,

xserver-xorg-input-evdev version 1.2.0 does not work, neither in qemu
nor dosbox nor nexuiz (mouse moves down right all the time).

I've just copied back the /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so from
1.1.5-3 and now everything works fine.

Any information missing that this bug can be resolved?

You don't say which version works for you. You also didn't send your X

Bug#458043: When I launc compiz from gnome it restart my X server

2008-01-20 Thread Mikkel Bundgaard
I had the same problem.

I solved the problem by reinstalling my NVIDIA driver, from NVIDIA.com

My Xorg.log was complainging about the GLX module. I believe it has
something to do with a recently update of my Xorg core.

Bug#461781: xserver-xfree86: Last Xfree86 update (sarge6) break Gnucash sarge package (1.8.10-12)

2008-01-20 Thread Yojik77
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Gnucash will not start anymore since really recent xserver-xfree86
update. Relation is quite certain for I ran two gdm sessions, the first
one launched with sarge5 update of the xserver, and the problem firstly
occured with the second session, launched for another user with the sarge6
update.
After reboot, it doesn't work anymore, whatever user I use

A piece of log :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$gnucash --nofile
Gdk-ERROR **: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
serial 56 error_code 11 request_code 146 minor_code 5
Gdk-ERROR **: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
serial 57 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0

I get the same information, whichever loglevel I do set.

Hope you'ill find something,

Seasons greeting et caetera !!

Bug#461783: X.org segfaults all the time since last update

2008-01-20 Thread Matthias Berndt
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20080118-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,
I'm running Sid here, and since the last update, X.org segfaults all the
time. This is the relevant entry from the dpkg log file:
2008-01-19 23:42:40 upgrade xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20080105-1
2:1.4.1~git20080118-1
It segfaults when I log in to KDE, it segfaults when I
xauth generate :0 .
and it segfaults when I send it a SIGINT.

I've attached a stack trace from the xauth crash. The crashes all seem to
be the same, the stack traces look basically identical.

What looks very strange to me is that Xorg -version says
X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
Shouldn't it be 1.4.1?

Bug#461786: xconsole vs. UTF-8

2008-01-20 Thread jidanni
Package: x11-apps
Version: 7.3+1

Currently when xconsole encounters a non-ASCII character, it silently
deletes it, not even replacing it with a ?.

Please make xconsole display the UTF-8.

Or on the man page say how to, or mention if it is impossible.

Can you try removing some Xkb configuration? I have seen 2 breakage with
the latest xserver-xorg-core that got fixed by cleaning the Xkb config
in xorg.conf or in the window manager. Does startx /usr/bin/xterm work
better than KDE?

What looks very strange to me is that Xorg -version says
 X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90

Not yet, 1.4.1 isn't released yet.

Bug#461781: xserver-xfree86: Last Xfree86 update (sarge6) break Gnucash sarge package (1.8.10-12)

The last security update brought a pretty big regression causing several
applications to fail like this. We are uploading packages for all
releases to fix the broken security fix.

I don't know what's the status of the new package for sarge, but I guess
it will arrive in the near future.

Bug#461649: Image shakes and shivers when content changes with Radeon RV100 QY (Radeon 7000/VE)

Please try a more recent version of the radeon driver (6.7.19x or
higher) and x server (1.3 or newer).

Alex

One option would be to put gsynaptics to dep-wait on
xfree86-driver-synaptics. Thus buildd would not try to build
it unless xfree86-driver-synaptics becomes some day available
on s390. While X on s390 might seem unlikely, stranger things
 have happened.

  Perfectly reasonable IMHO.

Is this what the conclusion is?

and then xfree86-driver-synaptics should add armel to the Architecture
list, I guess.

BTW: I suppose the above is avlid for all the synaptics_drv dependent
packages (ksynaptics and qsynaptics as well).

thanks
