Bug#465181: xf86-input-tslib: Please rename to xserver-xorg-input-tslib

2008-02-10 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: xf86-input-tslib
Version: 0.0.4-3
Severity: wishlist

[ XSF CCed ]

Hi,

Could you please rename the packages (source and binary I guess, to
avoid confusion; that will also imply requesting the removal of the
old packages from the archive) to xserver-xorg-input-tslib or similar,
to follow the current XSF naming scheme? This would be clearer for
the users.

regards,
guillem

Re: X.org plans for the lenny cycle

2008-02-10 Thread Niv Sardi
I forwarded that information internaly to my manager about a week ago
(after a discution with jcristeau), I believe that the message is:
* If it affects only Debian SGI (as a corporation) will not care and
treat us as a bunch of nitpickers hippies.
  (julien sent me a link I can't find now where fedora seemed to state
that they had the same concerns)
* It is possible that SGI doesn't own the code anymore (and that Khronos does)

Russell doesn't work for SGI any more. But Niv is.

Bug#465154: Switching to virtual console turns monitor blank

2008-02-10 Thread Thomas Florek

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0.90-3
Severity: important

If I do not start X or kdm at boot I get a normal login prompt.
Once I started X, I can not switch back to any virtual console
(ctrl-alt-F?) - but get only a blank screen.
Also while rebooting (or shutting down) I don't see any messages until
the machine POSTs.
Greetings
Tom

Bug#292388: XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 trouble

2008-02-10 Thread Jan Christoph Nordholz
Hi Brice, hi Joey,

(simultaneously replying to both bugs because the problem in
the underlying C libraries seems to be identical)

I can provide a short bug summary, maybe it's helpful.

For PF_UNIX connections with an XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 key, the
client (libx11/libxcb) constructs its 24-byte auth message (which the
server expects to be unique) from the following dynamic parts:
* the time (second granularity)
* the caller's pid
* a nonce

This nonce is generated in libxcb-1.1:src/xcb_auth.c:next_nonce()
by decrementing a function-local persistent (static) counter
variable (the code did not change much compared to the non-xcb
fragment that Bernhard posted to #292388 in 2005):

] static int next_nonce(void)
] {
] static int nonce = 0;
] static pthread_mutex_t nonce_mutex = PTHREAD_MUTEX_INITIALIZER;
] int ret;
] pthread_mutex_lock(&nonce_mutex);
] ret = nonce++;
] pthread_mutex_unlock(&nonce_mutex);
] return ret;
] }

Thus any unloading of the library will reset the nonce, and doing so
without changing the pid will trigger the bug. One possibility is
execve(), as Bernhard has demonstrated - SDL seems to employ the
other one (un- and reloading libxcb without exec()ing)... on my box,
enigma (among several other SDL games, e.g. kobodeluxe - but let's
stick to enigma for this example) reliably activates the bug:

reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is
probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the

*** Please type your report below this line ***

When displaying and XV overlay (in Xine or MythTV), the whole of the
overlay is blue and nothing else appears on it. Unlike the related bugs
I've seen on freedesktop.org, this happens even for small overlays
(about 200x150 pixels) as well as full-screen or large ones.

While I can set xine to do software (xshm) data transfer (looks bad,
uses lots of CPU but at least it works), mythtv can do no such thing so
is not useable with this graphics card.

The card in question is a CyberBlade XP4m32 on a Toshiba R100 laptop.

I upgraded, but the behavior is unchanged. (I switched to runlevel 1
and then back to 2, but did not reboot. I hope that's sufficient.)

I also forgot to mention that sometimes when I logout (from KDE) the
process seems to get hung up while it is killing the windows, and it
just sits there with a few windows showing. If I click on a window (or
switch back to vt7 if I've been in vt2) the shutdown then proceeds. It
still hangs as described in my original report after all that.

In case it's relevant, my packages are a couple days old because I've
been getting the BADSIG error from apt and I'm waiting for the condition
to clear.

Thanks for your very quick response.

Ross

Bug#451570: Two issues

I do see this bug as well now. In my message from yesterday, I had
only been testing with dual-head (with an external monitor connected);
when I start X with no external monitor (but with large virtual size),
I also get a crash maybe 30 seconds after starting X, after logging in
and parts of my session start. X also crashes when I use xrandr to
turn off the external monitor.

After these crashes, the hardware seems to be left in a bad state: gdm
tries to start several time, and doesn't get as far. I've attached
one of those logs in case it's useful.

Switching to XAA didn't fix this for me, but turning off acceleration
did.

Peace,
Dylan

Please direct user support questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
next time, thanks.
Regarding harware support, the Xorg version is irrelevant, what matters
is the version of the nv driver (or whatever driver you're trying to
use).
Finally, 0x12 == 18.

Cheers,
Julien

nv 2.1.3 is a bit old. We have 2.1.7 in unstable. Assuming you don't
want to upgrade to unstable, could try the rebuild of nv 2.1.7 for
testing that I placed in

Hello,

can someone please tell me, which Xorg version I need to get the Laptop

And it say every time it is on PCI 00:18:00 but this can not be, since
it is the Athlon/Opteron HyperThread stuff (output from lspci) and the
nVidia graphic controller is on real on 00:12:00.

acecad: fake device limits == screen limits in xserver 1.4 for xinput

xserver 1.4 does not do automatic coordinate scaling, so we have to do
it manually. But this breaks xinput clients that do their own scaling
using the device limits as reference. Pretend that they are the same as the
screen limits to work around this.

I'd like to see this happen, and if I can find the time I'll do it myself,
but it's not looking likely for a while. Work got incredibly busy and I
don't think I'll have much time for Debian for about two weeks or so. This
is the first time I've been able to even check my mail for nearly a week,
so doing a package upload is pretty well out of the question :-\ If no one
else has time though, I'll do my best to make it happen, but I doubt I'll
be able to do so.

Can you save the xmodmap config before modifying it? Does it change from

I think my laptop has an Intel 945GM chip. When I try to start compiz it
prints:

Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 00:02.0 0300: 8086:27a2 (rev 03) (prog-if 00

Trying again with indirect rendering:

Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (1280x800) to maximum 3D texture size (2048):
Passed.
Checking for nVidia: not present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.

and it doesn't draw any window borders etc even though it does run, and
so does gtk-window-decorator. According to glxinfo,
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is present in "server glx extensions" and
"client glx extensions" but not in "GLX extensions". /usr/bin/ compiz
checks for at least 3 occurrences of GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap in the
output. I changed the check from "-gt 2" to "-ge 2" and the error
messages changed to:

Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 00:02.0 0300: 8086:27a2 (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA])

/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0

and it then falls back on metacity.

Bug#465054: xserver-xorg-video-nv: takes like 15 seconds to switch from X to a vt/console (ctrl-alt-fn)

2008-02-10 Thread Helmut Grohne
Hi Brice,

Thanks for your quick response.

> Assuming 2.1.6 worked fine, could you try to locate which commit broke
> this in 2.1.7?

I cannot tell whether 2.1.6 worked fine, because I recently switch from
nvidia to nv (as can be seen in the config). The reason for switching
was Xorg taking much memory after 7.3 upgrade (1G resident within a
week).

> Does Option "HWCursor" "off" help? (in the Device section of xorg.conf)

I'll try that when my swap is full with xorg again.

Sorry, but experimenting with this machine is a bit dangerous, because
it occasionally crashes then and I really need it to work, so this'll
take a bit. I hope I can find some time for reinvestigating my other
xorg bugs soon and hopefully marking them as unreproducible.

Helmut

Assuming 2.1.6 worked fine, could you try to locate which commit broke
this in 2.1.7?

Does Option "HWCursor" "off" help? (in the Device section of xorg.conf)

The most probably candidate would be
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video-nv.git;a=commitdiff;h=7f281be7e53ac274016a6af6b2b5dc6f8bddb810;hp=100f5e24da2cbc79ed761083daa9a00b107008ab

Bug#465054: xserver-xorg-video-nv: takes like 15 seconds to switch from X to a vt/console (ctrl-alt-fn)

2008-02-10 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:2.1.7-1
Severity: normal

Switching from X to a console takes like 15 seconds or more. From within
X I press ctrl-alt-f1. The display does not update anymore (clock,
etc.). After about 12 to 17 seconds the vt appears in text mode.
Switching back to X is fast. I can then see a bit cpu load on gkrellm
for those 12 to 17 seconds.

This is a major annoyance for me, as I regularly need this feature,
still it doesn't look important to me, as this normally isn't needed.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0-1
Severity: normal

I am not sure if this problem is related to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.0-1
or to xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20080131-1 as I am unable to install the
separately due to dependencies.
As many others have reported font problems with the new intel driver I have
decided to file this bugreport against xserver-xorg-video-intel.

My problem is much more specific then the problems reported by others.

All fonts are drawn well, except "Times" which is not drawn at all.
The Problem did not occur with (and courl be solved by downgrading to)
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-2 and xserver-xorg-core
2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12lenny2.

I discovered the problem while using Mathematics (a proprietary computer
algebra system from Wofram Research).

Bug#462590: Debian bug report #462590 xserver-xorg

Brice Goglin schrieb:

I tried this option and I had no problems with it.

I had a look into the hardware description of my DELL notebook and it
says that the graphic card supports AGPx8. I also had no problems
with this card using the proprietary ATI fglrx driver on a another
system partition with a Kanotix system for more than 18 months.

The X logfile of this kanotix systems gives information about the used
versions:
Module fglrx: vendor="FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc."
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 8.29.6
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.0

So maybe the reported bug is not a problem only related to my
hardware, but also to the driver.

Is there something about the AGP mode in Xorg.log or dmesg when using fglrx?

Brice

Yes.

The result of dmesg | grep AGP on the kanotix system with fglrx is:

I am unmerging your own bug report from #452357 and marking it as fixed
in 2:2.2.0.90-2. In #452357, the lockup appeared 10s after the startup
of the server, Ken's bug might be more similar to this one.

If I switch VTs, manually or automatically due GDM start or whatever,
the screen brightness is reduced to 30%.
You can reproduce this by openning zsnes, chromium or switching
resolution/refresh on the screen resolution GNOME capplet. Also
switching to contrl+alt+f1 or any other triggers the problem.

If the fix is in 2:2.2.0.90-2ubuntu2, it is probably in Debian
2:2.2.0.90-3 too, i am marking as fixed then. But if anybody reproduces
this exact same problem with the latter, feel free to reopen.
