Bug#470524: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: Super_L doesn't release sometimes.

2008-04-22 Thread Erik Andresen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Ok, I'll write back in 2 weeks if this problem happened again.

Brice Goglin schrieb:
 Erik Andresen wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
 Version: 1:1.2.2-3
 Severity: important

Sometimes X doesn't seem to get the release event for the Super L (win
 key):

For example, when I type only 't', my windows manager launches a terminal
which it should only launch on SuperL+'t'.

The only thing I can do then is killing X.

This problem started last weekend after upgrading xserver-xorg-input-kbd to
unstable and does happen every 2 days here.
I use this key a lot in a key combination to change the virtual Desktop.

Does it happen with latest xserver-xorg-core (2:1.4.1~git20080131-3 in
unstable right now)? Some input-related bugs were fixed recently.

Bug#477197: No dead tilde in Spanish keymap please

2008-04-22 Thread Dani
It's frustrating when you want to type 'rm *~' and instead of that you get
'rm *'... :( besides we only use the tilde in one letter and it has its own
key, so there's no problem.

Please revert the change.

Thanks.

Dani.

Bug#477197: Revert this change

2008-04-22 Thread Alejandro Blanco Escudero
There is no need to get a dead ~ in spanish, it just has no use. But the
~ is a usefull character when you are using the shell, so please revert
this change.

Right. As I keep forgetting this, I have built a shell alias. So

Bug#477197: In favor of asciitilde too

2008-04-22 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Hello.

I was very disappointed when I found that a character that is so common in
UNIX and in some URLs, now has to be typed so inconveniently. There is no
point at all in having a key to compose 'ã', etc., because those characters
don't appear in spanish or catalan (I don't know about galician or basque,
but I think it's the same). According to the spanish ortography, 'Ñ' is a
letter, not a composed character, and as such, it has its own key in spanish
keyboards.

Users who want to type in different languages, should use different keymaps,
IMVHO.

Greetings.

2008-04-22 Thread Pau Garcia i Quiles

Hello,

There is no use for a dead key ~ in Spanish (or any other language
spoken in Spain, such as Catalan, Galician and Basque) and as
Christian Perrier said above, this is a dangerous change: rm *~ may
easily lead to rm *.

Please revert the dead key change.

This time, I hit C-w to close a icedove window when it happened. One thing
that may be useful to know is that I've opened and closed many many windows,
due to some bad calendar feeds that icedove doesn't like.

Can you reproduce with 2:2.2.99.902-1 from experimental?

Yes, I've now seen the same problem with 2.2.299.902-1. Here's the post
startup bit from the failed log file:

(WW) intel(0): PRB0_CTL (0x0001f001) indicates ring buffer enabled
(WW) intel(0): PRB0_HEAD (0x690120d4) and PRB0_TAIL (0x000120e0) indicate ring
buffer not flushed

(WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state.

I was working in a different app (gnucash) this time, so I don't seem to be
doing anything obvious to allow me to reproduce the lockup.

Also, it would be good to know whether it is EXA related. Add
Option AccelMethod XAA
do the Device section of your xorg.conf.

I'll try that next.

Jerry

I'd like to voice my support to Albert's proposal as well. It's specially
easy to mistype rm *~ when ssh'ing a remote machine on a slow link. By the
time you can actually see what you just typed, it may be too late to correct

Bug#461760: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Synaptics touchpad completely stops working under gdm, xdm, kdm ... and X (gnome, openbox, kde...)

2008-04-22 Thread Julien Cristau
Hi,

you reported a problem with the synaptics driver not reporting any
events for your touchpad.
Can you attach the contents of /proc/bus/input/devices to this bug?
Also, please test with the packages from testing (you would need to
downgrade your video driver, input drivers and xserver-xorg-core), and
if that works please attach the Xorg log.
The information so far in this bug only shows that a previous version of
synaptics couldn't load with xserver 1.4 due to unresolved symbols,
but nothing showing the driver works on your systems, unless I've missed
something.

Mattia, do you have an idea about this bug? It's currently one of the
few blockers for getting an updated X in testing.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#464015: xserver-xorg-video-mga: more suspend troubles with G550

2008-04-22 Thread Nikolaus Schulz
Hi,

here's more stuff about suspend with the Matrox G550 (with DVI).
As described in the logs of this bug, s2ram doesn't work at all, and now
I find that actually s2disk isn't without problems either. :-(

When I run tremulous (an OpenGL shooter game) after resuming from
s2disk, the entire graphics breaks down with a black screen. Again
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace has no effect.

I've tried to fix it from a ssh login, found tremulous not running,
killed and restarted X/gdm; the screen indeed turned on again, but it
was entirely corrupt, still showing the content of the old, killed X
session, no relationship to running programs at all. So it's a pretty
severe breakdown, and entirely reproducible.

I'm attaching an Xorg.0.log and some output from tremulous. Feel free
to ask for more specific stuff, should you need it.

Nikolaus

Bug#461760: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Synaptics touchpad completely stops working under gdm, xdm, kdm ... and X (gnome, openbox, kde...)

2008-04-22 Thread Laurent CARON

Julien Cristau wrote:

Hi,

you reported a problem with the synaptics driver not reporting any
events for your touchpad.

Hi,
Sorry not to have updated this.
I fixed it a long time ago... and forgot.

I simply did remove the line:
Option AlwaysCore
from the InputDevice section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf

So... more than a bug it seems to be a mistake in my config.

No ?

Laurent

That config presumably worked with xserver 1.3, so it'd be better if we
didn't break it. Could you rebuild the X server with the following
patch, and see if that works (with the AlwaysCore option in your
config)?

Thanks,
Julien

Bug#477197: Dead ~

2008-04-22 Thread Tako Schotanus
I don't like the dead tilde either because it really is useless in spanish.
But if we change it we should maybe think about the dead ^ as well?
Because it's just as useless, it's never used in spanish but quite a bit in
programming/regular expressions etc
And if we're busy anyway, why not change the dead back quote? (`)
Spanish does not use them either, only the forward quote.

Dunno, maybe it would be possible to have two diferent key maps?
One where only the ´ is dead while all others aren't and one that conforms
to what is the norm on other sytems?

Bug#467214: X memory leak fixed?

2008-04-22 Thread Ian Beckwith
Hi,

The memory leak I reported appears to be fixed.

X has been running for 26 days, and has held steady for most of that
time around:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
  562 root 10 -10 85040 8316 1972 S 1.3 1.7 578:09.82 Xorg

I also ran that grep on swap again for org.freedesktop.DBus.Local and
it reported 108 occurences rather than 446,000. They could well have
been left over in swap from previous runs of X.

I don't think I've made any configuration changes that might affect
this, but I have been tracking sid, so presumably an upgrade 26 days
ago fixed this.

cheers,

Ian.
