X server does not start after upgrade to X.Org 7.3 (xserver-xorg-video-ati
upgraded from 6.6.3-2 to 6.8.0-1) - the computer completely
locks up when first switching from VT (vga=791) to graphical display: caps lock
led keeps blinking, no disk activity, no ping.

I tracked it down with 'git bisect' to the following commit:

80eee856938756e1222526b6c39cee8b5252b409 is first bad commit
commit 80eee856938756e1222526b6c39cee8b5252b409

RADEON: fix console restore on netbsd

Include the mode restore bugfix from monolithic Xorg, that is derived
from the version in xsrc which in turn was provided by Matthieu Herb
over 3 years ago on the XFree86 lists. Suggested by various
developers, hold-back due to the working state in xorg-server 1.1.1.
Tracing down the exact change showed that the changed default color
depth made this issue a lot more prominent again. Discussed with Eric
  Anholt.

I've attached a patch against 6.8.0-1, that reverts this commit on Linux, and
fixes the problem on my end.

Cheers,
Avi Rozen.

The desktop size is not that specified with "Virtual". Instead it is the
physical resolution of the monitor (Dell Latitude D600 notebook LCD).

Hello,

I tried it with proposed-updates, but it did not work. Seems like
ddc-recognition doesn't succeed. I have included xorg conf and log. If You
don't mind, i won't switch to testing. I have just installed
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.09-pkg2.run from nvidia. It just works fine.

Thanks

Alfons

Or you can install the xserver-xorg-video-nv package from
proposed-updates, which should move to etch proper with the next point
release.
You should be able to add
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian proposed-updates main
to /etc/apt/sources.list and run
apt-get update; apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-nv
to install this package.

Cheers,
Julien

This board is supposed to work fine... with a recent nv driver (starting
from 2.1.2). You're using the one from Etch, which is about 2 years old
already. Please upgrade your Xorg packages to testing, switch back to
using the nv driver and report back.

2008-05-20 Thread alfwue
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-19
Severity: normal

hello

got black screen on my hp pavilion dv6765eg.

processor: turion x2
graphic: nvidia geforge 8400M GS
display: from the notebook, 1280x800

nv from xorg: refuse to run, because chip is unknown
vesa from xorg: just gives a black screen. I can hear from the beep,
that the login of gdm comes up. I can reboot the maschine with
. I can not switch to an other terminal with

Workaround: add vga=792 to the boot options of grub and use fbdev.

The information provided are from the running xserver with fbdev.
It complains, but it is functional.
(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOBLANK: Invalid argument

I deinstalled vbetool because of segfault, see bug #406682.

Have a nice day,

Alfons

compizconfig-python override disparity

2008-05-20 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

python-compizconfig_0.7.4-1_amd64.deb: package says section is x11, override
says python.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.
Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we won't be able
to deal with your mail due to missing information.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

Bug#444035: Regarding keyboard standards

2008-05-20 Thread Margarita Manterola
The links to the IBM pages are broken, because they are now pdf files
instead of web pages, and were moved from http to ftp.

The whole list can be found at:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/globalization/topics/keyboards/registry_index.jsp

And these are the links for the layouts in question:

Latin American:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/globalization/keyboards/KBD171.pdf

Spanish:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/globalization/keyboards/KBD173.pdf

As you might see in these pdfs, the tilde is shown to be dead. It's
located in in the "es" version and in in the "la" version.

I also found this information from Microsoft, for Microsoft Windows 95. I
couldn't find any references for anything more modern, but I think it has
stayed the same:

Latin American:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc195150.aspx

Spanish:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc195122.aspx

The fact that the tildes are shown with white background instead of gray,
indicates that they are dead.

Assuming you want to debug compiz on machine A, start compiz there. Then
take machine B, log on machine A using ssh and run
gdb -p $(pidof compiz.real) (or whatever is needed to attach to
compiz.real)
Then try to reproduce the Compiz crash on machine A. When Compiz
crashes, go back to machine B, and enter "bt full" in gdb, and send us
the whole output.

You need to catch a backtrace with gdb (make sure you do not run gdb
from a window wirthin compiz, ssh would be better). We cannot do
anything without it.

Hi Enrico,

can you try the latest version (2:2.3.1-1), and if that doesn't help get
a backtrace from gdb with xserver-xorg-core-dbg and
xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg installed?
See http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/XserverDebugging for some
information.

Cheers,
Julien

Is it reproducible? Please try with intel 2.3.1 from unstable. If it
still crashes, please install xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg and catch a
debugging backtrace with gdb. If you need help, please let me know.

thanks,

No, that's not how it works. Please don't file bugs with inflated

You don't give any information about the system in question. You need
to at least attach your X log, and tell us what version of
libgl1-mesa-dri is installed.

Any OpenGL acceleration access makes X-Windows freeze. Even a simple
call of glxinfo shows that effect.
OpenGL has been working on this system before, no configuration was
changed since, only all updates from lenny have been installed.
