Bug#485702: xorg: ctrl+alt+Fx doesn't work anymore (on an old install)

2008-06-18 Thread Eddy Petrișor

Julien Cristau wrote:

your Xorg log and config, for a start (this would have been included
automatically if you had filed this against the right package, but...)

btw, you can always switch VT with chvt.

Indeed, I forgot
about it since I am used to ctrl+alt+Fx working

Well, running a su just to change terminals seems like overkill:

1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~/usr/src/xkb-data-does-not-show-all-layouts $ LANG=C chvt 7
Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console

it breaks when the server can't build an xkb keymap.

(**) Option "XkbLayout" "ro"
(**) Generic Keyboard: XkbLayout: "ro"
(**) Option "XkbVariant" "standard"
(**) Generic Keyboard: XkbVariant: "standard"

and the 'standard' variant of the 'ro' layout doesn't seem to exist.
that's probably the problem here. looks like the variant is named
'std' (see /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ro).

Indeed, thanks. I am using std instead and is working now. Still I am not sure if the variant name
hasn't changed, since before 1.3-1 ctrl+alt+Fx used to work.

I will check again to be sure that upgrades from Etch to Lenny aren't broken in this regard. If not,
then I guess this bug can be closed since it would be obvious my error that caused it.

Today's upgrade to the release candidate of xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.8.191-1)
seems to have fixed this.

Bug#480755: IRC followup

2008-06-18 Thread Robert Millan
reassign 480755 tasksel
thanks

Tasksel maintainers: I think libgl1-mesa-dri is very needed in the desktop
task; it is a common problem that X users don't get DRI support by default,
and run into issues that are not trivial to track down.

See the bug log for more details.

Bug#486891: xorg: setxkbmap fails to properly set romanian std mapping

2008-06-18 Thread alecs1
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.3+10
Severity: normal

"setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout ro -variant std" does not bring the wanted
Romanian std layout, but the std_cedilla
one. Playing with the config file it seems that std_cedilla is some kind of
fallback, as if I delete all other
mappings Ro std will not set, instead will get the annoying most generic
error: "Error loading new keyboard
description". Romanian basic, which has the same ş and ţ symbols works.
I did not come to solution yet by playing with the file. Please have some sort
of regression testing for this, as
every once in a while Debian Testing breaks the Romanian keyboard.

xserver-xorg-video-glide

2008-06-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Hello,

On Guillem's request, I've prepared a packaging of the xf86-video-glide
driver. This driver is for Voodoo 1 and 2 boards. From what I
understand, it does not manage any PCI device (so there's no
/usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/glide.ids). And you'll get better perf if
you load the 3dfx kernel driver (so it recommends device3dfx-source).
Please somebody review the attached patch.

Guillem or anybody having such a graphic board, you can try the driver
for i386 at:
http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/glide/

I'm attaching a complete version. It features explicit per-file annotations
since they will be needed at a later point anyway when switching to machine
parsable copyright files. Also, upstream asks for a more complete copyright
file to be submitted in COPYING, so I rather fixed it the clean way.

Some source code files don't contain copyright assignment headers (see
at the end of attached file). The Makefile.am's and the g4b seem harmless
since they're likely to little to be copyrightable at all, but the following
should be checked with upstream:

src/tfp410/tfp410_module.c
src/ch7xxx/ch7xxx_module.c
src/ch7017/ch7017_module.c
src/xvmc/i915_program.h

src/scripts/tv.5c
src/sil164/sil164_module.c
src/i810_dri.h
src/i810_dri.c
src/i830_dri.h

I don't expect any problems, but that should be resolved upstream. Brice, can
you
take care of this? You probably know better who to prod.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#486864: xserver-xorg: better suggest sun6 for type 5 sun keyboard

2008-06-18 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+12
Severity: minor

As I already wrote in #483946, though admittingly quite late and
after quite some confusion, the type 5 keyboards should not
be model type5 but sun6 (note the 6 instead of the 5 here).

As this is somewhat unrelated to the old bug (suggesting sun as layout
which just did not work at all with current kernels), and using type5
instead of sun6 as the model is only minor stuff (The sun specify keys do
not work and the compose key produces menu instead), I decided to not
reopen the old, but file a new minor severity bug.

I've organized myself a type 4 keyboard, so I hope I will be able to
test that this weekend (I guess sun6 will also work better for this).

Hochachtungsvoll,
Bernhard R. Link

splitting radeon out of ati

2008-06-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Hello,

On Michel's request, I am planning to split out the radeon driver of the
ati package so that people can install radeon without r128 or mach64.
We'd have:
* xserver-xorg-video-ati contains the ati driver wrapper and depends on
-radeon, -r128 and -mach64
* -radeon only contains the radeon driver
* -radeon-dbg contains what you guess
* -ati-dbg contains the ati driver wrapper debugging symbols and depends
on -radeon-dbg, -r128-dbg and -mach64-dbg

xserver-xorg-video-ati would not ship any ati.ids anymore, only
radeon.ids would be in radeon (as well as r128.ids and mach64.ids in
-r128 and -mach64). So the server would autoload radeon, r128 or mach64,
never autoload the ati wrapper.

Patch attached. Anything to say before I upload this? Anything to fix in
the descriptions?

I upgraded to version 1:6.8.191-1 and everything seems to work fine
now. It even fixed some rendering bugs that I was seeing in Iceweasel
3. Closing this bug now.

Thanks

Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.197-1
Severity: normal

Symptoms: after upgrading the xserver-xorg-video-ati package, some
images are not scaled properly. For example, see
, compared to the screenshot
 (aside from the fact
that they had much better weather than I do).

If I downgrade to version 1:6.6.193-3, everything looks fine. If I
switch to XAA mode instead of EXA, everything looks fine (but is very
slow).

I've tried version 1:6.7.198~git20080203.f65e8dfa-1 from experimental,
and it still exhibits the same problems.

Here is part of my xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY"
Driver "radeon"
Option "UseFBDev" "false"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "EnablePageFlip""on"
Option "AGPFastWrite" "on"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "DynamicClocks" "on"
Option "BIOSHotkeys" "on"
Option "BackingStore" "true"
Option "ColorTiling" "on"
Option "AccelDFS" "on"
Option "CRT2Position" "Clone"
Option "Monitor-LVDS" "Internal Panel"
Option "Monitor-VGA" "External VGA"
EndSection

Background: the ClearWeather screenlet uses cairo to draw some PNG
files. I assume that cairo is using the render extension to scale the
images to the correct size, but the driver isn't scaling things
properly.

I also see the problem in other programs, such as skippy-xd.

Let me know if you need more information.

Hello,

I've just tried with 2:2.3.1-1 and it did not crash anymore. I suppose
you can close the bug.

Sorry for not trying this earlier, but I have not been in a position to
restart the X server until now.

Reverting back to 1.1.1-8 fixes the bug, right ?

Given that there are very few users of this driver, even among the
upstream devs, it would be very nice if you could locate which upstream
commit broke this. Looking at
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-video-glint.git, I
guess the pciaccess port (Dave Airlie's commits) are the best candidates
for this breakage. Can you trying reverting these 4 patches and see if
the bug disappears? (reverting less than 4 may lead to build failure
from what I see in the logs).

Also, it would be nice if you could catch a backtrace with gdb. And even
better if you could catch a backtrace after rebuilding the driver with
debug enabled (see [1]) and installing xserver-xorg-core-dbg.

thanks,
Brice
