Bug#490071: xorg occupies all cpu time
All last week I've used X attached to GDB trying to get a useful backtrace, but I was not able to replicate the hangs with current Sid packages. The last two days, without GDB, again it worked with no issues, so the glitch, hardware or software, seems disappeared. -- Andrea -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#493880: xfonts-100dpi: Helvetica from this package is reported by fc-match to beantialiased
Package: xfonts-100dpi Version: 1:1.0.0-4 Severity: normal To reproduce type; fc-match -v helvetica | grep antialias If you get 'FcTrue(w)' then you see the problem as a bitmap font can never be antialiased. The direct effect is that Qt4 applications (including KWord2) choose this font based on this variable even when it requests an antialised font (the standard). The effect is that installing this package will make many applications look quite ugly. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (850, 'testing'), (800, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xfonts-100dpi depends on: ii xfonts-utils 1:7.4+1X Window System font utility progr xfonts-100dpi recommends no packages. What file are you talking about? not grep file, thats not what I wrote. 1) make sure you have the package installed. 2) run fc-match -v helvetica | grep antialias 3) check output. Your output should either be; antialias: FcTrue(w) or it is different. If it is the FcTrue one, then fontconfig is reporting the bitmap font to be antialiased. My problem exactly matches this bug description, I have a fujitsu-siemens Lifebook S6010 laptop with an intel 82830 chip and X does not start. I noticed this bug quite a long time ago, and it was marked as fixed because the bugs it was merged with have been fixed. But I suspect that this bug was in fact a different problem, because no upgrade (I am using lenny/testing) fixed it for my laptop. Note: I don't know if this is the correct process, but I unmerged the bug to avoid reopening all merged bugs since I think the other are different issues. Then, DomU should supports framebuffer output and should be able to get X running in it. I tried this but it fails with this error: ,[ /var/log/Xorg.0.log ] | [...] | (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO succeeded but modified mode | (EE) FBDEV(0): mode initialization failed | | Fatal server error: | AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0 ` I found a way to solves this problem by patching the xorg-server package with this patch[1] which comes from Novel's bugtracker[2]. 1. https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=161573 2. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=285523 This is supposed to be addressed by patch 47_fbdevhw_magic_numbers.diff. Should I apply this patch to the debian source package xserver-xorg-video-intel from lenny ? from sid ? Or should I apply it to the debian xorg source package ? Or should I download the original X11R7.3 source from X.org and apply the patch to it? I'll try to build some packages with that patch so you could test them, I guess that would be easiest. Independant note: I have just also noticed that the same bug also occurs when using the intel X driver in etch (newly made available due to etchnhalf). Until now I have used i810 on etch which still works (I have both an etch installation on this machine for production use and a lenny installation for tests). Yeah that's not surprising. At least I have the same symptoms as other people with a missing panelsize option. However, adding it to xorg.conf (see attachment) only resulted in a blank screen.
