Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.2-4
Severity: normal

After the most recent upgrades of xserver-xorg-core and xserver-utils
my LCD display started breaking up (like the vertical sync was really
messed up) resulting in a screen full of coloured lines if the system
was left untouched for some time.

After reading through some similar reports regarding the intel driver,
and the text at the two upstream links provided in one report, I added
a line to the device section of the config file which will turn off
framebuffer compression (although I haven't restarted the xserver so
I don't know if it will have any affect) and turned off KDE's display
power management. Everything was fine until I powered down the monitor
for the night, in the morning the display was back to being unusable.

For the last three or four days I haven't turned off the monitor and
everything is fine.

I have not experienced any "flicker", the screen simply goes haywire
after the monitor is shutdown either automaticaly because of
inactivity or manually by hitting the monitor's power switch.

HTH

xsfbs.mk: make 'log' a separate target

xsfbs.mk: make 'log' a separate target

'prepare' runs genscripts, and we don't want that in unpatch,
so create stampdir/log in a separate target, and make unpatch
depend on that instead of prepare.

Pandora is based on the Music Genome Project, while MusicIP has their
own proprietary "acoustic fingerprint" algorithm. The MGP is based on
actual human acoustical evaluation of songs, which is good in theory.
However, if you listen to much obscure music, they may not have covered
it. Because MIP is a computer algorithm, it can obviously work on any
song - even ones you make up using MIDI.

Asking the user is the one thing I'd rather not do. We'd either patch
the server to use intel when xorg.conf says i810, or patch xorg.conf on
upgrade.

I'm not sure what your patch would change, but it looks like a hack.
Can you give http://newpeople.debian.org/~jcristau/xterm-patch.diff a
try instead?

Cheers,
Julien

Thanks for all the debugging! Can you try the attached patch (against
the xorg-server source)?

Cheers,

Subject: [PATCH] Correct a NULL pointer deference

The problem happens if Monitor/Card combo doesn't provide EDID info,
and the XFree86-VidModeExtension extension is used.

Bug#498289: One last bit on Intel XvidMode crash

2008-09-09 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.2-2+lenny4
Followup-For: Bug #498289

Sorry for the bugspam.

All in all, it seems that this bug is entirely in the XVidMode
extension. Using that disable option fixes the crash after logging in,
too.

Also, much experimenting reveals that the crash only seems to happen if
gnome-session has been started. I wasn't able to figure out /what/
gnome-session does to cause it. I tried starting up various programs
that gnome-session does by hand, and couldn't find the one responsible:
it's not e16, gnome-settings-daemon, nautilus, pidgin, gkrellm, lineakd,
or xbindkeys (all of which my gnome-session starts).

I also found that in most cases --- but not all --- starting those
programs first, and then gnome-session, still lets the crash happen. But
sometimes it didn't.

[ Note: I haven't actually used the machine for long with XVidMode off,
so hopefully it stays stable that way.]

Bug#498262: xserver-xorg-video-intel: VGA output state misdetected

2008-09-09 Thread Andrew Archibald
> When did this bug appear? Did you ever try some earlier versions of
> xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.x?

Up until recently we'd just been happily using a stable build of Etch. Now
with the promise of various new features I'm looking into updating our
standard build to be Lenny, when it is released. So I'm afraid this is the
first test I've done since Etch. If you have any forward-ports I'd certainly
test them.

I agree this is weird and so was careful with my xrandr outputs. And I have
just now, as below, double checked.

# system boots with only top part of screen primarily used and I log in to
gdm/gnome
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep connect /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) intel(0): Output VGA connected
(II) intel(0): Output TMDS-1 connected

Bug#498327: xterm: fragile build on GNU/kFreeBSD

2008-09-09 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: xterm
Version: 236-1
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version sometimes fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD, see

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/build.php?&pkg=xterm&ver=236-1&arch=kfreebsd-amd64

The problem is timestamp resolution in underlying file system.
The "make" sets subsecond timestamp resolution.

Please, could you change debian/rules as shown bellow.

Thanks in advance

Petr
