Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.4~4
Severity: normal

Hi,

since using kernel version 2.6.28-rc1 my iBook doesn't enter the sleep
mode, if X is active. If X is running, but not active, i.e. I'm on a
virtual consol (e.g. tty2) the system goes asleep. With the kernel 2.6.27
I've no problems.

When starting suspend to RAM (via pbbuttons) while X is active, the
screen becomes black (the common switch to the virtual console) and then
the screen becomes scrambled and the system stops, but it's not off. If
the fan is spinning before going asleep it still spinns after the screen
becomes scrambled. So, the system is not off, but no keys working, e.g.
Ctrl+Alt+Fn to change the virtual console.

I'm sorry, I can't give you more informations. But if you have questions,
ask me.

Bye, Jörg.

Bug#490159: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Experiencing "Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds" as well

2008-12-22 Thread Ales Dolecek
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.2-2+lenny5
Followup-For: Bug #490159

Hello,

I experience the "Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds" as well.
The system is up 24/7 with X running all the time (one session -
just locked screen if I'm away). It usually runs several days without problems.
If it happens gdm tries to restart the server several times,
which unfortunatelly rewrite log of the crashed session. The problem is,
however, thet the X server won't start again.

I include copy of the log when the X server refuse to start again.

Bug#508999: more on 508999 (lenny with wrong frequencies on Radeon Xpress 200)

I tried c0c33dab44e6966b1702d4e8cfba3537fc6e2d5c
from git://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/
and that seems to work both with and without patch.
(xrandr also names this device DVI-0 instead of the LVDS
of the lenny version).

While testing this when terminating the server with the patched new
radeon_drv.so, I got some error of suddenly no signal at all
and the computer very slow (especially disk accesses it seems).
It only happened with the patched git version yet, but it happens
so seldom that it might be coincidence and I just was not yet able to
reproduce with other versions...

Hochachtungsvoll,
Bernhard R. Link

No, vmmouse always loads mouse. It uses mouse only if you are not inside
vmware nor qemu but it apparently loads it before the check is done.

fix your package manager.

Do you mean it's a bug in aptitude that it did not install the other
packages?

If you are positive that the Xorg dependencies are correct and aptitude
installs packages incorrectly reassign, please.

For some reason installing X no longer installs the input drivers.

I get no mouse nor keyboard input in X.

With gdm installed this is somewhat problematic.

Thanks

Can you try ati from git master with my patch? The version you are
using doesn't properly deal with mobile vs desktop usage of rs4xx
chips (the version is git does). The LVDS path shouldn't be getting
called in your case and I want to make sure the proper paths work
correctly.

Thanks,

Alex

The patch does not apply cleanly on the lenny version, it looks like the
first two lines of this are swapped:

>   RADEONRestoreFP2Registers(pScrn, info->ModeReg);

Even when I switch those lines so that it applies, it does not work.

The cards I have here are 1002:5974 and grep 5974 src/radeon_chipinfo_gen.h
says:
 { 0x5974, CHIP_FAMILY_RS480, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1 },

Thus I added CHIP_FAMILY_RS480 there and then it seems to work. Modified patch
attached.

BTW: I was quite confused by the "ErrorF" there and first thought that
was an error path normaly not used and thus a bit perplexed why changing
that code even helps, but looking at the Xorg.log, it seems to be
actually called

We only use the lower 8 bits because bits 9:8 select the pll dividers
to use; changing it breaks some chips. Some rv410 chips have a
similar issue. Does this patch fix it for you?

Register specs are available from
http://developer.amd.com/documentation/guides/Pages/default.aspx#open_gpu or
http://www.x.org/docs/AMD/ .

As can be seen there, CLOCK_CNTL_INDEX is indeed a 32 bit register with
more than 8 functional bits, so this looks like a valid fix.

In fact, I can't seem to find any non-32-bit MMIO registers we would
(need to) use, so I'm not sure the IN/OUTREG8 and IN/OUTREG16 macros
have any reason to live.
