Bug#519243: use UXA to fix?

2009-04-23 Thread Cade Robinson
I had the same issue on a Intel 82Q35 Express.

I for a couple days now haven't had any issues by switching to use UXA
and KMS (kernel-based mode setting).
I am not sure which fixed it but I don't have corruption.

To enable UXA I put this in the Device section of xorg.conf:
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"

Then to enable KMS I put this line in /etc/modules:
i915 modeset=1

I haven't had any corruption, suspend and resume works fine, and it
seems a bit faster to me.

The downside is that I can't switch to virtual terminals.
If I try it appears to lock the machine. My desktop stays up and the
same. The mouse disappears and any activity like blinking cursor or
scrolling stops. But if I switch back to VT7 everything comes back.

I guess I can live with no VTs for now without having corruption.

I should be able to do this sort of testing during weekend.

As I'm not very accustomed to building stuff from pristine sources,
I'll try to build 6.9.0 first - to verify it works like the version
from Debian packages, proving also my building process is correct.

Judging from Debian package 'xserver-xorg-video-radeon' contents, I'll
need 'radeon_drv.so', 'theatre_detect_drv.so', 'theatre_drv.so' and
'theatre200_drv.so'. Just compile it (in the same virtualized
environment, as Debian packages mentioned in my previous tests) and
copy these files to appriopriate location on my system?

I don't have any more information to add to the extensive test results from
Jacek Politowski, except perhaps for my pretty generic xorg.conf (see
attachment).
I am using unstable with a stock 2.6.29 kernel. Downgrading to 6.9.0
worked for me as well.

I can confirm that the image on the screen with the broken driver is some sort
of
mixup of what the screen looked like just before things broke. At one point
during
my downgrade things were half fixed and I got almost the entire original image
back.
I could read most of the text in my terminals. This happened even after a soft
reboot.

Please let me know if you need any more details on my hardware cofiguration.
Unfortunately I am not in a position to reboot this computer a lot right now
for testing different versions, because it is being used for long simulations.

Laptop Keyboard not working after login (KDM, KDE)

2009-04-23 Thread Thomas Koch
Hi,

when I start X, I can use my laptop keyboard, the usb keyboard, the usb mouse,
the touchpad and the "thinkpad mouse button" with the right german keymap.
Great!

After login in via KDM to my KDE4.2 session (with awesome as WM but that
shouldn't matter) no keyboard reacts. I can get the usb keyboard to work by
unplugging it and plugging it again.

Where to search, please?

Best regards, Thomas Koch
