Bug#501821:

2009-06-03 Thread Debian
Yes - problems with the xorg-configuration are one of the biggest issues when
you
change something in the hardware.
Specially the new formats of TFT-Screens are causing much problems.
At least it would help if the X-Server would go to a standard resolution
(800X600)
when no desktop could be established.

I could solve the problem in the time between.
But not with the packages of debian.
The only chance is to install the drivers you can download at NVIDIA.
When you choose that the install script shall do the X-configuration also,
there is
a good chance that all resolutions are supported.

probably no, just mis-calculated values. Could you try the latest
version and verify if this is still happening?

 TapButton1  = 0
 TapButton2  = 0
 TapButton3  = 0

as far as tapping is concerned this also seems more likely to be your
problem, it has been discussed in multiple bug reports[1] and you should
set
TapButton1=1
TapButton2=2
TapButton3=3

I've already investigated, that I should use 'synclient -s -l'. That
were confusing all my tries... The bug should be closed, though some
problem with X configuration interface (without -s) may still exist.

Also, have you made any changes to your suspend/resume scripts (i.e.,
added or removed vbetool post options)?

 No.

Also is it just suspend to ram or suspend to disk or both?

I can only speak for suspend to ram, since my swap partition is too
 small for suspend to disk.

 HTH.

BTW: Do you think that's the same bug?

   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16537

Maybe; it's hard to say. Seems like it used to work for you recently.
Suspend/resume is problematic on a lot of cards probably not the same
issue in all cases.

The git bisect good was probably too early. I'm still getting freezes,
so it's easy to say when a revision is bad, but even five successful
resumes in a row are not enough to call it good.

IOW: It takes some time for testing, and in the meantime, the accused
commit mentioned above isn't probably the culprit.

radeon: fix several dpms issues

- atom dpms was unblanking for standby/suspend
- return if r600+ in radeon_crtc_modeset_ioctl()
- remove seprate standby/suspend handling in legacy
crtc dpms. we turn the outputs off, so turn the
  crtcs off too.
- disable the crtcs in legacy crtc dpms
- move radeon_crtc_modeset_ioctl() calls to radeon_crtc_dpms()
so they will get called for both atom and legacy paths

Should fix bug 21321

Bug#523953: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Trying kernel 2.6.29 + UXA

I changed my system configuration to Sid's 2.6.29 kernel and I configured my
xorg to use UXA and disabled tiling.
This seems to greatly improve the situation on my side.
There's still a bit of tearing in videos, but overall it's working quite well
 now.
Please refer to attached files if you need some more info.

Any improvement with intel 2.7.1 or 2.7.99.1-2 from experimental?
You might want to use a recent kernel such as 2.6.30-rc8.

Hello,

This driver has been unusable on my mac-mini (core 2 duo) since
novembre (and on several intel chipset, from other bts entries).
It has been crashing X at random resulting in lost of data
of the current session and breaking any distants ones.
(most notably my ongoing blobwars game ;-)

If you feel like downgrading the severity, no lower than serious,
please. This driver is not suitable for lenny.

As reported by others, since the 2.2.x branch of intel driver, X is
going randomly in some suspend mode, and the only way out of it is a plain
reboot. Sucks.

Bug#481050: After coming from DPMS I get a black screen with working mouse pointer

I sent this bug already for version 2:2.2.0-1 but we had it closed as it
seemed that the bug was gone, maybe some of the cases on which it was
happening are now fixed, but it still happens on current versions of the
 driver.

What comes now is a rewording of what I reported on the other bug (463633),
however the configuration, logs and everything added by reportbug are new as
I have started the xorg.conf from scratch to simplify it and the server is
 the new one on sid.

The server works ok, but if I let it go into DPMS mode, when coming back I
get a black screen, only the mouse pointer is shown then, I can move it and
it is perfectly drawn, but the whole screen remains black. I can get the
screen back to normal by going to a text VT and coming back to the X VT.

The machine used to need Option VBERestore true on the old 810 driver to
get the screen restored after getting back from a text VT, this has been
like that since the XFree 4 era.

This was not happening before with the xserver-xorg-video-i810 driver, only

I used virtual display and xrandr commands:

xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1280x800
xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS

to have an external 1024x768 LCD panel and the internal laptop panel
(1280x800) in Xinerama mode. Everything worked fine in previous version
of this package. Now the rendering is corrupted.
The external screen is completely grey - seems to be a gnome panel, the
internal screen shows long stripes of my background image. The
renedering seems to be heavily enlarged and contorted.

that seems to solve the problem.

If the intel driver can't be patched to solve this with the bugfix from
2.4.0, is it possible to change the X.org installation/configuration in
such a way that when the intel driver is used, framebuffer compression
 is turned off by default?

At least that would provide a usable system out of the box, instead of a
 frequently crashing system.

Hello,
Does framebuffer compression work fine now with latest driver from

 Hello,

I am afraid I cannot give much information, because it happened to me some
weeks ago with a projector whose brand I do not know. On Monday I have to
give another presentation which embedded videos, so *it is not portable to
the computer they will have there with Windows*. OK, I could have asked
Brice independently :-) instead of submitting a bug, but I am submitting the
bug just in case it is a real bug and not my fault. If it is not a real bug,
please forgive me and close the bug.

I use Debian sid with KDE, and the display is Intel Corporation Mobile

When I plugged the projector and rebooted, the GRUB and boot video output
was directed to the projector, but as soon as kdm started the video output
was in the computer screen and not in the projector. Pressing Fn + F5 did
 nothing.

[SRM] xorg and xorg-server update for lenny

2009-06-03 Thread Julien Cristau
Hi,

the workaround put in xorg-server for 5.0.1 didn't fix the problem on
sparc with pci drivers, and actually made things worse for some people,
so I'd like to revert it in 5.0.2, and try to fix it some other way
instead.

The xorg-server update would:
- remove the patch added in r1
- cherry-pick a patch to fix the idletime xsync timer (see
  http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gnome-session/news/20090521T093223Z.html
  and

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit?id=1f4fb0225b278d1cf4145aebeb0bdd23dc8f62d5)
I'm not attaching the patch here, it's in git, branch debian-lenny, for
those who care.

The sparc workaround is moved to xserver-xorg, which will attempt to
default to the fbdev driver on sparc if no specific fb driver is found,
and regenerate xorg.conf with that.
Lightly tested patch for that follows. I'd appreciate review
(xserver-xorg.postinst makes my head hurt) and testing. (It seems that
the window for 5.0.2 will close soon, so the sooner the better.)

Thanks,
Julien

Hi,

since the upgrade to etchnhalf, DRI no longer works.
You will see that Xorg.0.log now notes that
---
(WW) intel(0): Removed DRI frontbuffer mapping in compatibility mode.
(WW) intel(0): DRIGetDeviceInfo will report incorrect frontbuffer handle.
---
Invoking anything that uses GLX (even glxinfo) results in the following two
lines in the console:
---
libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Invalid argument)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
--
Also, glxinfo tells me that I don't have DRI.

Googling suggests that the 'Removed DRI frontbuffer mapping' messages comes
about because the intel module is newer than the xserver, resulting in the
loss of DRI.

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I was writing an email in icedove, suddenly the screen went black
(backlight still on).
I switched to VTYs, and I could run commands, but switching back to X
gave me a blank screen again. I tried typing, moving the mouse, with no
results.

I have started x11vnc from a terminal, and connected remotely, however
all I got was a black screen.
I also tried suspend-to-RAM, but it didn't bring me back the X console
either (and neither did vbetool dpms off/on).

I had to reboot (restarting just the X server didn't work either)

I don't know how to debug this if it happens again. Any suggestions?

Also, I never had such problems before upgrading to version 2.3.1 of the
intel video driver.
E.g. now sometimes when I login X is killed, and restarted, the 2nd

Bug#523953: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Trying kernel 2.6.29 + UXA

2009-06-03 Thread Matthias Breier
Hi Brice,

Any improvement with intel 2.7.1 or 2.7.99.1-2 from experimental?
You might want to use a recent kernel such as 2.6.30-rc8.

Currently everything works rather well with xserver-xorg-video-intel (2.7.1-1)
and linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64 (2.6.29-5). Videos are finally playable as
before in mplayer and xine.

The only drawback I currently experience is a problem with programs using
OpenGL interfaces like blender, in which the buttons are hoovering in a
fashion which renders the interface unusable. Luckily I'm not using it right
now. The problem is dealt with upstream (according to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/353763
) so that I'm sure it will be resolved in a future release.

And sometimes after long periods without any problems, the display fonts seem
to get distorted in a way which makes them unreadable. But I'm not completely
sure, if this is really related to the Intel driver. It's not reproducable and
disappears after a reboot.

I don't have the time to test the experimental packages at the moment, but I
will look into it as soon as possible.

 Brice

Bye

Matthias

When etchnhalf was released, I switched from testing's X server
(xserver-xorg-video-intel and xserver-xorg-core) to etchnhalf. My

With testing's packages, there was no problem, and I had a 1600x1200, 69 Hz

blank, I cannot switch to a text console with Ctrl-Alt-Fn, and
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not do anything visible. However, Ctrl-Alt-Suppr
works, and it seems to be the only thing I can do.

Please give a tiny bit more information if you want this to go

libgl1-mesa-{glx,dri} would be nice too.
What are those apps stuck doing?

Bug#490573: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] No video into projector

2009-06-03 Thread David
Sorry, I have two difficulties to answer this question.

The least important: now I use Arch Linux on that machine, but I suppose
things should not be very different between different distros. I may say the
driver version and say that I have no xorg.conf in Arch.

The most important: I seldom have access to a video projector. I only have
when I have to give a presentation, and to make matters worse in several on
them they already have a computer connected and you plug your USB drive (I
suppose for the sake of saving time).

Next time I have access to a projector I will let you know, but you will
have to be *very* patient.

By the way, some time ago a person emailed privately to me to ask whether I
solved the problem. So there are people reading this but not writing: I
strongly encourage *you who are reading this* to collaborate here.

Bug#531771: xkb-data: level 3 switch not working anymore

Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.6-1

Hello,

Since the upgrade the version 1.6, my level 3 switch stopped working
in gdm (but not under gnome).

Here is the relevant information from /etc/default/console-setup

# The following variables describe your keyboard and can have the same
# values as the XkbModel, XkbLayout, XkbVariant and XkbOptions options
# in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
XKBMODEL=macintosh
XKBLAYOUT=be
XKBVARIANT=
XKBOPTIONS=lv3:rwin_switch,ctrl:swapcaps

I set the severity to grave since people might have special characters
in their password and found themselves locked out of their account if
they don't know how to change it (or how to revert to version 1.5).

It took me few hours to find out why Ctrl+Alt+BkSp stopped worked
once again few days ago (first time it happened when some smart Xorg
guys enabled DontZap by default...) That's why I'm reopening the bug
- such a change should be either better documented (NEWS.Debian or
in DontZap's description in xorg.conf(5)) or the old behaviour should
be reverted (as DontZap enabled by default already prevents from
accidental pressing of Ctrl+Alt+BkSp).

2009-06-03 Thread jidanni
OK, I managed to put
deb http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel sid main
in sources.list, and even though I see the 30 stuff in
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/pool/main/l/linux-2.6/
however only the 29 stuff is yet in
/var/lib/apt/lists/kernel-archive.buildserver.net_debian-kernel_dists_sid_main_binary-i386_Packages
therefore I shall wait a few more days until trying any reckless experiments.

Bug#475112: xserver-xorg-video-intel: lockup with G33 on x86_64

 Jerry,

Does this problem still happen with latest intel driver from unstable or
 experimental?

I'm no longer seeing the lockups, so the recent Intel drivers must have
fixed the issue.
