Bug#534541: xserver-xorg-core: upgrade from 2:1.6.1.901-2 to 2:1.6.1.901-3 breaks DRI with UXA

2009-06-25 Thread David Wührer
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3
Severity: normal

Window content drawn trough OpenGL remains invisible when AccelMethod is UXA.
Default EXA works, albeit with inferior performance, probably due to its using
DRI, not DRI2.

Bug#498703: works (partially) with recent versions

2009-06-25 Thread dmanye

En/na dmanye ha escrit:

hello,

i've done some tests and in *all* cases the machines boot successfully
the X server. but there are cases where it fails: sometimes when going
from console mode to graphics mode the machine completely freezes;
sometimes it is enough to logout the X session and gdm freezes.

i saw that all 30 machines in the lab had the same hardware but it is
not true: most of them are Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE
Chipset Integrated Graphics Device rev 1, and some of them (the ones
that usually fail) are the same but rev 3 instead of rev 1.

so our plan now is stay with lenny next course (september to june) and
throw the rev 3 machines to /dev/null ;-)

so if you want to close this bug, feel free to do it since we are not
going to use the problematic graphic cards. but if you prefer to keep
it open and tell me what you want me to test i'll try to find some
spare time.

thanks.

ps: there is some additional info related to this in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17713

oops! with recent versions i mean:
 kernel 2.6.30
 xorg 1.6.1.901 (1.6.2 rc1)
 intel driver 2.7.1

when starting a computer, sometimes xwindow does not start and gdm
shows the xkeepscrashing message. when a computer does not start,
restarting it one (or two or three!) times usually solves the problem.

i have a 30 near-identical computer lab and usually get a 10-15% crash
ratio.

i'm using a near up-to-date lenny install.

this report is filled in a working machine that the previous boot
failed.

feel free to ask for more info.

thanks.

2009-06-25 Thread Baggett Jonas
Hello
I am using lxde and I have almost the same problem except that I don't need to
press anything to make it happend.
I have also an intel graphic card (i915 chipset) (Dell Latitude 630) and KMS
enabled on kernel 2.6.30-1.
I noticed that at the beginning, the mouse works then the desktop get displayed
but not the icons and not all the icons of the taskbar, the the mouse pointer
disapears and the keyboard doesn't work either, except the magic keys.
Downgrading to 1.6.1.901-2 also solved the problem.

There's an ABI break in DRI2 in the latest xserver-xorg-core. So you
need to downgrade to 901-2 or rebuild the intel driver against the new
server and dri2proto. I've reported the problem upstream with the same
backtrace than yours with debugging symbols, but the guy that broke this
didn't really acknowledge the problem yet...

Re: Removal of fc-cache calls in postinsts

2009-06-25 Thread Julien Cristau
On Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 23:08:26 +0200, Josselin Mouette wrote:

 Hi,

since version 2.6.0-4, fontconfig includes a trigger that will re-run
 fc-cache whenever needed.

Therefore, all font packages that currently do this in the postinst are
strongly advised to remove these calls. The performance gains during
 upgrades should be huge.

I’ve requested a new lintian check, and here is the list of affected
 packages.

xfonts-scalable override disparity

2009-06-25 Thread Archive Administrator
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

xfonts-scalable_1.0.0-7_all.deb: package says section is x11, override says
fonts.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.
Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we won't be able
to deal with your mail due to missing information.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

I've written and committed to the upstream the manual page for S3.

Should I rework it for Lenny and prepare patch? Is the man page the
subject for proposed updates? I'm asking because the changes can be
slightly complicated for proposed updates as it's needed to change
configure.ac and /debian files, add /man/Makefile.am and the manual.

   Brice,

I installed the xorg packages from unstable as you suggested.
Actually I had to purge the old ones first as there was a weird problem
with fonts (Display was fine but no chars showed anywhere)

   Problem still exists.
Display switching between X and console also still broken, but that's
   another bug :)

Which xserver-xorg-core and -video-intel are you using these days? Does
  intel 2.3.1 work better?

 Ping?

Does Lenny work fine? If not, what about latest intel driver from
 unstable?

 Brice
