Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3 Severity: normal No input devices are detected. xserver-xorg-input-evdev is installed, the evdev kernel module is loaded, HAL and dbus are running. Bug#535952: xprint: Xprt can't find symbol PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions and fails to start
Package: xprint Version: 2:1.4.2-11 Severity: normal Hi, I've just installed xprint 2:1.4.2-11 and it fails to start: # /etc/init.d/xprint start /etc/init.d/xprint: Old server registry found, cleaning-up... As an aside, it would be really great if the init.d script could not hide this error in /dev/null, please; that wasted an hour. Running nm -D on another machine suggests that perhaps the missing PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions should be defined in /usr/lib/libXfont.so.1: # nm -D /usr/lib/libXfont.so.1 | grep PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions d880 T PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions That machine has libxfont1 version 1:1.3.3-1. This machine where it doesn't work has libxfont1 version 1:1.4.0-1, which seems to be the newest version, and the symbol is not defined: # nm -D /usr/lib/libXfont.so.1 | grep PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions # So my guess is that the current libxfont1 is too new for the current xprint and/or the current xprint is too old for the current libxfont1. Bug#535952: xprint: Xprt can't find symbol PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions and fails to start
Hi Julien, Julien Cristau wrote: xprint support was removed from libXfont. I see. I guess I should work out why; there have obviously been some developments that I have not been following carefully enough. (This machine has been in not broken don't fix it mode for a long time, and now whenever I do need to change something small it seems to ripple out, breaking other stuff like this.) We should add a Breaks: xprint to the libxfont1 package, as it doesn't look like xprint will be coming back. Right. For the recond, apt-get install libXfont1/stable seems to have cured the problem without any immediately-obvious side effects. Bug#536006: rules/*.xml allow unsupported model/layout combinations
Package: xkb-data Version: 1.6-1 Hi! Keyboard configuration programs use /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/*.xml file in order to find the possible models, layouts, variants. Unfortunately some Macintosh-related combination are not supported. For example the following logical choice is not supported: keyboard model 'macintosh' (Macintosh), layout 'de' (Germany) and variant 'mac_nodeadkeys' (Germany - Macintosh, eliminate dead keys). The reason for this is that when the user selects model 'macintosh' and layout 'de' the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/de is used instead of /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de and there is no mac_nodeadkeys there. As a result the keyboard is leaved in a bad state. I suppose that one possible fix for this problem would be to ignore the files in macintosh_vndr. The standard files in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols describe all Mac-layouts so there is no need to use the files in macintosh_vndr. You can find attached a patch that shows how this can be fixed but I suppose this will require some discussion with the upstream before applying it. Bug#536011: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Display corruption and X crashes after a dist-upgrade that didn't touch any X related package.
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.7.1-1 Severity: important After dist-upgrading several machines, I got display corruption and occasional hangs and crashes on two machines that have Intel graphics chips. The two machines, an EeePC 901 and a Shuttle X50, run Debian unstable, without experimental packages. The 901 has an Atom N270 chip, which is single core, 32 bit. The X50 has an Atom 330, which is a dual core, 64 bit processor. One has a GNOME desktop, the other an XFCE4 desktop. Both have recent kernels with KMS enabled, but corruption seems to happen with 2.6.29.2, 2.6.29.4 and 2.6.30.1 in exactly the same way. The symptoms are similar: startup via gdm or slim seem to work OK. Desktop appears normally. Starting a GNOME terminal or using the panel menus seems to work OK. Starting an xterm causes immediate corruption: black lines with occasional white pixels appear across the entire screen, fonts are unreadable. After a some time, even when doing nothing after logging in, X hangs or crashes. If X restarts, corruption sometimes also happens during the start of gdm or slim, but never after a hard reset. Trying to start programs makes crashes happen quicker. As mentioned in the subject, one of the machines dist-upgraded both on the 4th of July and on the 6th (today); only after today's upgrade did the corruption happen. Between the two upgrades, the machine was turned on and off a number of times, so it could not have been from an earlier upgrade that did not fully take effect because old versions of programs/libraries were still in use. The packages touched in the last upgrade of that specific machine were: gnome-desktop-environment gnome gnome-core libc6-i386 libc6-dev libc6 libbrasero-media0 brasero-common libgnome-bluetooth2 brasero libmono0 libmono-corlib2.0-cil gnome-bluetooth mono-runtime mono-gac mono-2.0-gac libmono-system2.0-cil libmono-security2.0-cil libglib2.0-cil cli-common libmono-cairo2.0-cil libgtk2.0-cil libgnome-vfs2.0-cil libgmime2.2a-cil libgmime-2.0-2a libglade2.0-cil libgconf2.0-cil libart2.0-cil tomboy libndesk-dbus1.0-cil libndesk-dbus-glib1.0-cil libmono-sharpzip2.84-cil libmono-posix2.0-cil libmono-addins0.2-cil libmono-addins-gui0.2-cil libgnomepanel2.24-cil libgnome2.24-cil debianutils pciutils netbase libpci3 libgcrypt11 locales console-setup binfmt-support libmono-i18n-west2.0-cil libglib-perl libfuse2 libcdio10 libcdio-paranoia0 libcdio-cdda0 gdb openbsd-inetd If you want me to do any tests, please let me know. -- Package-specific info: /var/lib/x11/X.roster does not exist. /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist. Bug#527349: similar behaviour
I also have the 865G driver and am having problems with it. But disabling DRI with Option DRI False in my xorg.conf lets me run X without big problems (it is slow, but it runs at least, have you guys tried this?). Some people over at the #intel-gfx suggested that this was not a problem of the intel driver but a problem with the mesa and should be fixed in the 7.5 or 7.6 version (havn't tested it though). One thing about the DRI option, if I ommit disabling the DRI then I can run X by using IceWM and can watch videos with mplayer (havn't tried any other player) but if I try to run anything else like iceweasel then the X freezes. If the DRI is set to False then I can not watch videos with mplayer so I am switching between the two at the moment from time to time. Bug#536019: xserver-xorg-core: unstable since 2:1.6.1.901-3
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3 Severity: normal This version is unusable on my ThinkPad X61s. The previus revision of this package isn't. When I start GDM, the screen shows garbage. Only the input field of the username looks correctly rendered. If I stop GDM, the text console is just black, so it is broken, too. I need to reboot. If I start an X session without GDM, but with startxfce4, the screen freezes as soon as I open a menu. Downgrading to 2:1.6.1.901-2 fixes all of the above problems. Bug#535952: xprint: Xprt can't find symbol PrinterFontRegisterFpeFunctions and fails to start
Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org writes: xprint support was removed from libXfont. We should add a Breaks: xprint to the libxfont1 package, as it doesn't look like xprint will be coming back.
