Bug#536841: compiz-gtk: No window decorations using gtk-window-decorator

2009-07-13 Thread debian-compiz-bug . 20 . qay

Subject: compiz-gtk: No window decorations using gtk-window-decorator
Package: compiz-gtk
Version: 0.8.2-6
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I try to use compiz with Gnome and a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card using the Xorg
radeon driver (*not* fglrx!).

OpenGL, direct rendering and all this stuff works (glxinfo reports "Direct
rendering: yes", 3D games are playable at high frame rates).

I can start compiz, but I have no window decorations at all while it is
running. The desktop effects are working, though.

When starting compiz I get:

For me it looks like gtk-window-decorator is the source of the problem. I
already tried different metacity themes with no luck.

This bug renders the package (and from that compiz) useless for me.

Bug #476282 suggests adding the "decoration" plugin to the compiz
configuration. On my setup it seems to be present already:

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 1.6.1.901-3

After the upgrade to then new Version (1.6.1.901-2 -> 1.6.1.901-3)
X-Crashes when pressing return or hit the mouse button.
After that the system i frozen. I cant switch to a Virtual Console or so
and must reboot the machine.
In the Xorg logs is nothing unusal.

If I'm downgrade to Version 1.6.1.901-2 everything is ok.

Im using an uptodate debian unstable on an Asus EeePC 1000H go with
Intel hardware.
The Kernel is 2.6.30 with Kernel-Modesetting activated.

Hi!

After updating from 2:1.6.1.901-2, all windows except for the root window are
garbled on my machine. It's possible to guess the positions of the windows,
but it's impossible to read anything inside.

Regards,
Jakob

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3
Severity: normal

Window content drawn trough OpenGL remains invisible when AccelMethod is UXA.
Default EXA works, albeit with inferior performance, probably due to its using
DRI, not DRI2.

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3
Severity: normal

This version is unusable on my ThinkPad X61s. The previus revision
of this package isn't.

When I start GDM, the screen shows garbage. Only the input field of the
username looks correctly rendered. If I stop GDM, the text console is just
black, so it is broken, too. I need to reboot.

If I start an X session without GDM, but with startxfce4, the screen
freezes as soon as I open a menu.

Downgrading to 2:1.6.1.901-2 fixes all of the above problems.

Regards,
Tino

I have X configured with two screens (without Xinerama) like this:

  Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0"
...

Previously, the mouse cursor worked seamlessly across displays. After
upgrading to the newest xorg version, though, the cursor persists on the
inactive screen after moving across the display boundary. It's as if
the last displayed position on the previous screen isn't erased when it
hops to the next screen.

This doesn't interfere with normal operations, it's just annoying :-).

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.5.99.902-1
Severity: normal

I recently performed the upgrade mentioned in the subject line.
Thereafter, the X server hangs with a disappeared mouse cursor
seconds after starting my desktop sessions, repeatably.

My intel driver is version 2.7.99.901-2, I use UXA and KMS.

I'm happy that I found a binary deb of an old X server that
allowed me to get into X and investigate.

Package: xserver-xorg

Severity: normal

Greetings X11 team!

My X server just crashed on me and I thought you might want to know ;-)

Basically, the system is frozen from the console, mouse cursor is still
working though. No reaction to any keyboard input, can't get to the
text console.

Full disclosure: I am running the closed source nvidia driver as nv just
does not cut it here. Therefore please consider this bug low priority,
until somebody is able to reproduce. I just wanted to record the back
trace :)

Greetings, Torsten

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.6.1.901-3
Severity: important

I have observed two regressions since upgrading to 2:1.6.1.901-3,
despite having taken care to rebuild xserver-xorg-video-intel against
current versions of xserver-xorg-dev and x11proto-dri2. (As such, I
believe this report to be distinct from #534475.)

- As a traditionalist, I make heavy use of the "fixed" font, which
started showing up as unreadable horizontal stripes rather than
proper characters. I'm not sure if other fonts were also affected,
as I quickly reverted to -2 and the corresponding (unrebuilt)
-video-intel. (I have tried to ensure that the data dump below
corresponds to my brief run of -3, though.)

- While comparing logs of -2 vs. -3 (diff included below), with
everything else held the same, I observed that only -2 was able to
make use of DRI2. That's not such a big deal to me, as pretty much
the only GL apps I run are xscreensaver hacks ;-), but seems worth
  noting as well.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.4.2-1
Severity: important

After updating the BIOS to the latest version on my ASUS P5Q-EM
motherboard with
Intel G45 graphics, I am getting the same output corruption issue
described here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/258925

The changelog for the ASUS update says, "Updated VBIOS".

According to the Ubuntu bug tracker, this issue is fixed in upstream git.

Bug#516014: xorg: Since upgrade to Lenny on 2/15, Xorg frequenly spikes CPU to 100%

2009-07-13 Thread Ilia Lilov
I got exactly the same bug - sometimes (appr. one time per 5 hours)
xorg process uses 100% of CPU's core while it draw something (like
window scrolling or any changings on screen). Xorg version is 1:7.3+19
(1:7.3+18 did the same).

I had ATI Radeon X1600XT with hand-made cooling system (I mean it was
not so good). After appearing this bug I tryed to change cooling
system to good one (two huge radiators with big cooler). So, bug
completly disappeared.
So we have solutions, but we don't know the reason. I mean we don't
know place in the source code, which provoke this bug. Bad cooling is
bad of course, but xorg should say about it with some other phrases...
I think, people who still have this bug should run something like
profiler for xorg process to locate this place in code. Anyway, corg
developers interested in this.

Ilia Lilov.

As the virtual modifier assigned by the xorg.conf option lv3:win_switch
works perfectly with libx and libqt but not libgtk this seems to me an
gtk-bug. Why did you reassign it to xkb-data?

Any new thoughts about this bug? I'm stuck in understanding (not to
speak about solving) it and completely annoyed when having to copy-paste
important chars like @ from the terminal into gtk-apps each time I need
to type them.

If there's a way to turn the new nouveau kernel tree into something that
could build modules for the standard debian kernel, I guess that could
be an option. Otherwise, I guess we can wait for it to make its way
into the staging tree, although I don't know the ETA for that. Did you
try discussing the options with nouveau people upstream?
The drm git tree is increasingly libdrm only…

I'll assume that you're also using the Mesa r200 driver, and that this
is the upstream bug referenced above. Maybe you can help isolate what
caused the regression, so far things seem to point at the X driver.
