Bug#580263: visual artifact - line of blue points

2010-07-15 Thread Marcel Šebek
Seems that the problem was in the hardware. Reconnecting the monitor decreased
the blinking somewhat and now it disappeared completely with no obvious reason.
Please close the bug.

Bug#570988: xserver-xorg-video-intel: blackout

2010-07-15 Thread Elena Grassi
Today, after two days without problems, my X server crashed at startup
(before the gdm login appeared, with black screen and only the mouse
pointer on it).
The log says:

(EE) intel(0): I830 Dma Cleanup Failed
(EE) intel(0): failed to destroy server context
(II) intel(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) intel(0): [drm] unmapping 8192 bytes of SAREA 0xf7c1f000 at 0xb71e1000
(II) intel(0): [drm] Closed DRM master.

I guess my video card is really buggy :)

Bug#541388: Happens to me too

2010-07-15 Thread Eugen Dedu

Hi,

In my .xinitrc/.xsession I have a call to xmodmap .xmodmap (I use a US
keyboard/layout and I need French diacritic characters), which works
just fine. The problem is that after an upgrade (I use debian unstable
and I upgraded the packages two days ago (previous update was 23 June)),
after suspend/resume, the settings from this file are lost = I need to
manually execute the xmodmap command after each resume.

I do not know what package is the responsible for that. Many packages
were updated (console-setup, xserver-xorg-video-intel, udev,
keyboard-configuration etc.), I can give you the complete list if you wish.

Cheers,

Bug#570988: xserver-xorg-video-intel: blackout

2010-07-15 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi Elena,

Elena Grassi grass...@gmail.com (15/07/2010):
Today, after two days without problems, my X server crashed at
startup (before the gdm login appeared, with black screen and only
the mouse pointer on it). The log says:

(EE) intel(0): I830 Dma Cleanup Failed

(II) intel(0): [drm] Closed DRM master.

sorry to read that.

Chris Wilson (upstream) is kindly asking for a full X log, that would
be interesting if you can reproduce the crash. What you pasted seems
to be only the shutdown after the actual crash.

2010-07-15 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Elena Grassi grass...@gmail.com (15/07/2010):
 Here it is.

Thanks,

I've prepared a new version of 2.12+UMS packages, which is available
at the same place:
  http://people.debian.org/~kibi/packages/xserver-xorg-video-intel/

Version is now: 2.12.0-1+ickle2

There's also a fix for UMS in the mesa package I've just uploaded (and
which should be built and available for all architectures in a few
hours), so could you please test mesa packages version 7.7.1-4 + the
new version of the driver when you get a chance?

Bug#589169: Xserver Crash Using Compiz

2010-07-15 Thread Dave Richards
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.9.0-1+lenny4

We are using Debian Linux on 600 HP thin clients and about once every
2-3 weeks those employees that have compiz enabled crash the Xserver.
It seems to always happen when a dialog is closing. For instance it
happens when you select your printer in OpenOffice and the dialog is
just about starting to close. It also happens when you click on Send in
an email message in Evolution and the child UI begins to close.

Unfortunately it's not easy to replicate.

I was able to see the crash in the xserver log as indicate below:

Backtrace:

We are using ATI 9250 PCI based video cards.

Those people not running Compiz never see this issue, it's
definitely related to the 3D GNOME desktop.

It might be worth trying a newer version of mesa, the one in stable is a
couple years old so it's possible this has been fixed since.

no longer in squeeze). You might want to add versions to these breaks,
also a different package is maybe a better fit for this breaks line,
but at least in my test this caused the xorg upgrade problem to disappear.

Ah, that sounds doable, thanks. (Probably with versioned Breaks in
  xserver-xorg-core.)

 Done with:
 http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server.git;a=commitdiff;h=9c8080d06c457932d3bfec021c69ac000aa60120

A quick test suggests that with this change apt removes only those
packages instead of all of X.

David, I'd like to thank you for your work one more time. (I uploaded
a package with that change a few hours ago.)

We are using ATI 9250 PCI based video cards.

Those people not running Compiz never see this issue, it's
definitely related to the 3D GNOME desktop.

It might be worth trying a newer version of mesa, the one in stable is a
couple years old so it's possible this has been fixed since.

 Cheers,
 Julien

Newer mesa will not install without a complete upgrade of X. It wants
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.5+. This is a huge engineering upgrade for us and
will take lots of QA hours to test all of our hardware and software. I
hoped we could find a fix within the confines of Lenny. Lenny is
shipped on HP thin clients as part of a custom build designed
specifically for these devices.

Please run 'reportbug -N 589207' to provide the necessary information.
Also it would be good to try xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12 from
experimental, and let us know whether the bug still happens with that.

I tried to use the touchpad on my laptop to move the cursor from one
place on the screen to another, by sliding my finger-tip over the
surface of the touchpad.
The computer behaved as though I had clicked the mouse (or touchpad)
button which I had not.

The above fault happens often but not always.
When my finger-tip is dry, the error occurs.
I can sometimes work-around the fault by wetting my finger tip.

I do not require the effect of clicking on the button, except when I
press it.
How can I disable the feature which pretends that I have clicked on
the mouse (or touchpad) button, when I have not done so?

( My computer (in GUI mode) sometimes behaves as though I failed to
release a key.)
( Rarely (not in GUI mode), the arrow and home keys fail to work till
re-boot, but most keys do work.)
My Computer, Mitac 6020, does not run acpi.
I attach a copy of output from dmesg when running kernel version
2.6.26-2-686 .

The command synclient -l
produces the response:
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?
on stderr.
the same command give as root produces the same response.
I tried adding :
SHMConfig on
immediately after:'
Section InputDevice' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf' .
The result was that xorg did not start when the computer rebooted,
kdm started (according to ps) but I could not see the display on
tty7.
-
I attach a copy of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf which I have.

I am using:
xorg 1:7.3+18
kdm 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6+lenny1
kwin 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6+lenny1
kmail 4:3.5.9-5

kernel my own special 2.6.26-21+cs1 ,
but the fault also occurs
with kernel 2.6.26-2-686

libc62.7-18lenny4

The hardware is:
laptop: Mitac 6020with touchpad.

The output of lspci is:

I hope that this is clear,
