2010-09-07 Thread Alexander Vlasov
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.12.0+legacy1-1

Hi all,

I have regular random X crashes, usually every day. It happens I think from the

With xserver-xorg-video-intel from squeeze I had error about batchbuffer
input/output error.
I looked through bug reports and tried to install legacy version from sid. And
I still have crashes, but now with different error. Here are excerpts from
logs:

RFS: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.904+svn858-1

2010-09-07 Thread Julien Viard de Galbert
Hello Julien,

I just pushed a new experimental branch for openchrome.
This branch is based on the unstable package you just uploaded.
I added a debug package as this version in experimental will be used to
debug some of the new hardware (I plan to ping open bugs to test the
experimental package)
Please review it (and upload if it's fine) when you have time.

Best Regards

Well the drm normally has a kernel driver (isn't that part called dri?),
I guess that's the part that should be loaded before starting X.

just FYI, to get a meaningful backtrace, it's usually a good idea to
install -dbg package, run X inside gdb (or attach it once it's
running) from another box, and get a full backtrace.

That said, we know -intel is quite a PITA, sorry for that..

Yes, the situation for your i855 and previous intel chipset is in a bad
 shape.
For example look this (but there are other similar reports):
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=594623

It's both a kernel and a xserver-xorg-video-intel problem, but more the
latter. The kernel team is probably waiting to know if KMS should be
enabled or not for these chipsets and is working in concert with the
Ubuntu one for a common solution.
[...]

The Debian kernel team works closely with the X Strike Force regarding
DRM/KMS drivers, and we generally follow their advice on what options and
patches to use.

We're not working with Ubuntu on this, though we did follow their lead in
blacklisting those chips.

Bug#595767: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: Won't load hardware acceleration after system start

On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 6:48 AM, frank.kott...@gmx.de wrote:
 Hi,

Radeon drm is loaded by xorg.conf which is loaded by X, isn't it? How can I
get that to load before X starts?

For KMS, the drm needs to be loaded before X starts since it fully
controls the hw with KMS rather then being partially shared with the
userspace driver. You need to adjust your udev or modprobe or initrd
settings to make sure the module is loaded before X starts.

The problem is, when the ddx attempts to load the drm, it often does
not finish initializing the hardware before X starts so the ddx
assumes KMS is not enabled and then both the ddx and the drm attempt
to control the hardware.

Alex

Bug#593929: Same problem on 2 more machines

2010-09-07 Thread Zoltan Adasz
Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.8-1
Severity: normal

I've run into the exact same mapping problem on 2 different machines:
  - one of them was a Lenny system, which was upgraded to Squeeze
  - the other one was a new system installed with the Squeeze Alpha1 net
installer

X was working without xorg.conf. Keyboard layout was set in
/etc/default/keyboard as the following:

XKBMODEL=pc104
XKBLAYOUT=us
XKBVARIANT=
XKBOPTIONS=

Starting a console and executing setxkbmap -rules evdev fixed the mappings.

2010-09-07 Thread marco

Package: xserver-xorg-core

I have exactly the same bug as Andreas Berger in n° 595566 except this :

- No problem with Iceweasel.
- CPU usage hit 70% when moving gnome terminal. Gnome terminal
background is translucid (i see my wallpaper through it). When not using
translucid background, CPU usage is not important.

Globaly, all windows takes time to refresh when goin active after being
reduced.

This problem appears with my 5 september update on this xorg packages :

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root272 5 sept. 17:02
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-common.list
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root326 5 sept. 17:02

Data found with this line command : $ ls -ltr /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list

Notice that i have 2 screens in TwinView mode.

Hi,

after installing this verion I had issues switching VT with keyboard (but as
well with kde Switch User).

I still can switch to every VT and console VT are working as normal.
But X VTs dont seem to get any update any more.
Eg. switch between VT8 (my X) and VT1 works, switching back gives an black
screen, with mouse pointer.
