Bug#610203: [xserver-xorg-input-synaptics] synclient -l fails with "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"

2011-01-15 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Filipus Klutiero (15/01/2011):

Probably because loading it manually made it find no devices since it
wasn't in discovery mode, and when that phase happens (see the evdev
lines), synaptics has already been loaded and registered to have
failed?

You probably want to remove that part. If you have both evdev and
synaptics installed, the latter wins.

Bug#610203: [xserver-xorg-input-synaptics] synclient -l fails with "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"

2011-01-15 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 1.2.2-2
Severity: normal

Trying to verify that synclient -l now works, I got:

$ synclient -l
Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
chealer@vinci:~/logs$

This happens despite the driver being loaded. I don't see any related
error or warning.

Does upgrading to -5, as well as upgrading your kernel to the latest
version help?

What happens when you move stuff around, are they redrawn properly at

if you're talking about the backtrace in the X log, that's normal,
that's what glibc's backtrace() gives. You need to use gdb to get a

+
+
+## Categories
+
+The BTS has yet another feature which can help, categories. That’s
+based on usertags as well, but one has to use the package address
+(`$pack...@packages.debian.org`), so that’s package-specific rather
+than team-specific.
+
+Categories are
+[documented on the wiki](http://wiki.debian.org/bugs.debian.org/usertags),
+and they would probably be welcome in the `intel` and `ati` cases
+above, as well as in the “multiple tools in a single bundle”
+cases.. An example of what we could achieve is the
+[devscripts bug page](http://bugs.debian.org/devscripts) (it takes
+some time to load, plenty of bugs).
+
+Needed steps for that to happen:
+
+ * create usercategories.
+ * move usertags from `debian-x@lists.debian.org` to
+ `$pack...@packages.debian.org`, probably using the `bts select`
+ command to get the list over which to iterate:
+ * profit!
+
+To move the usertags, something like that should do the job:
+
+# Adding usertags:
+user $packa...@packages.debian.org
+usertag X xset
+usertag Y xrandr
+user $packa...@packages.debian.org
+usertag Z i810
+
+# Removing tags which are no longer needed:
+user debian-x@lists.debian.org
+usertag X - xset
+usertag Y - xrandr
+usertag Z - i810

Thanks for the update. Deprecated symbols might stay a bit. It's easy

Usertagging bugs

2011-01-15 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

it'd be nice to keep track of some extra bug info, like those which
might be nice to get fixed in point releases. Example: #602207.

To that effect, I've started using usertags. Example for that bug:
  bts user debian-x@lists.debian.org , usertag 602207 squeeze-candidate

To view all bugs with that tag:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?users=debian-x@lists.debian.org&tag=squeeze-candidate

All usertags can be seen here:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?users=debian-x@lists.debian.org

I'll write up some doc later on.

Package: xbase-clients
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11
Severity: wishlist

As of http://www.gnome.org/~lcolitti/gnome-startup/analysis/, I wanted
to try using mcpp instead of GNU cpp, but
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources did not ease modifications
for it, so I wrote a tiny patch (here for using parameter "-cpp mcpp" of
course, but should be generic and clean enough for whatever other
usage).

Hope you can get this included anytime soon.

Bug#596356: xserver-xorg-video-intel: crash every day with intel driver, don't crash with vesa

Hi Yan.
Even if your system crash as the one from the original reporter, you
both have very very different hardware: yours is one the older chipset
supported by Intel driver and for which there are known problems; Julian
has instead a very new hardware.

I think you'd better to open a new bug to track your problem.
And keep in mind that your platform is quite rare now, so it would be
good if you will inform upstream too:

From the low of my experience i can suggest you:
- search for "845", "hung", "hangcheck" and similar on bugs.debian.org
and on lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/, to find similar reports.
- try to rename xorg.conf so that it won't be loaded anymore. If you
don't have particular needing, now X is able set the proper
configuration automatically. This probably won't resolve your specific
problem.
- if you are able and if you are not afraid to experiment, you can try
both kernel and intel driver from experimental, so you can see if your
problem are already corrected or got better. To summarize upgrade
xserver-xorg-video-intel, libdrm-intel1, libdrm2 and install
linux-image-2.6.37-trunk-686.

Maybe it's normal, but i wonder why lspci reports an i845 chipset, while
this logs talks about an i830.

Good luck.

Cesare.

Just in time. Now the configuration should be stored in
/etc/X11/Xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf and I'm not sure the
/etc/X11/Xorg.conf editing as described in README.Debian works now.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-4
Severity: important

When using the Chrome 7 preview release, rendering pages with advanced HTML5
effects such as and will cause X to crash with the
xserver-xorg-video-intel driver. I suspect this might be something to do with
the new GPU rendering process but either way, Chrome should not be able to
crash X. When X crashes, the system is completely unusable, does not respond to
keypresses and must be power cycled to become usable once more.

The following error is in the X log:

Fatal server error:
Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error

The following information describes some of my hardware:

ThinkPad T60
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML
Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

The following describes my Chrome version information

Google Chrome 7.0.544.0 (Official Build 61416) dev
WebKit 534.10
V8 2.4.8
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.10
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/7.0.544.0 Safari/534.10
Command Line /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome

I am unable to reproduce this 100% of the time but being in the HTML5 beta on
YouTube is a pretty good source of crashes.

Bug#602207: backported upstream fix

2011-01-15 Thread Bjørn Mork
Although this is far too late for the squeeze release, I assume that
fixing this bug in a later point release might be of interest. The
upstream fix does not apply cleanly to 2.13.0 so I have backported it.
Backport patch is attached.

The second patch is a straight cherry-pick of 537fa55e. This is
necessary to avoid introducing a regression. I've not combined the
patches to keep as much as possible of upstream history.

I have succcessfully tested and verified this fix on top of the Debian
package version 2:2.13.0-5. Please consider it for squeeze.1

MIME-Version: 1.0

As the bo may be pinned for either use by the scanout or through sharing

the bo itself but must force the blit for PutImage.

Bug#609145: results of git-bisecting when attempting to trigger displayed image corruption

2011-01-15 Thread Arthur Marsh
Hi, I did another git-bisect run where if the image at:

http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA13706.jpg

loaded successfully in iceweasel, I would try to get it corrupted by moving a
konsole
window around over the displayed JPEG and the moving the iceweasel window
rapidly.

If the image corrupted or went black, or errors appeared in dmesg, I then ran

git bisect bad.

This resulted in a different "first bad commit":

  time git bisect good

drm/radeon/kms: move a bunch of modesetting debug to correct debug usage.

This migrates a bunch of DRM_DEBUG->DRM_DEBUG_KMS so we can get more
modesetting related info without all the other ioctl handling easily.

Also the PM code moves to DRM_DEBUG_DRIVER mostly.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-vesa
Version: 1:1.3.0-1
Severity: normal
File: video-vesa

Because the i815 card is misdetected by the X config scripts vesa is
used instead of intel driver. However, with vesa the card does not work,
only garbage is displayed on the screen.

After startup the screen is covered with some white pattern and after
switching to console and back the pattern is very dark, barely visible.

Thanks

Michal

You're using the vesa driver. Why?

But when you ask it to become Caps Lock again it does not. It will not
unlock the capslock anymore.

Please close only bugs that have been fixed.

Thanks

Sorry,

when I tried to look for the board I could not find it so I cannot test
this.

Thanks
