Yes, I haven't seen this strange layout in a while. Thanks!

If I could just look at the list of open bugs I've reported…

Bug#615522: xserver-xorg-video-mach64: apt-listchanges prompts on every upgrade

2011-02-26 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: xserver-xorg-video-mach64
Version: 6.8.2-5
Tags: patch

Hi KiBi,

For a while, I was wondering why the version numbers in debian/NEWS
for the mach64 keep on increasing such that I get a mail with every
upgrade. Now I figured it out:

 xserver-xorg-video-mach64 (6.8.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Drop the useless epoch for the first upload to unstable.

How about this patch?

-- 8< --
Subject: Avoid pointless prompts from apt-listchanges on upgrade

All the NEWS.Debian entries for this package are from its time in
experimental in 2008, when it had an epoch of 1:. Therefore the
corresponding version numbers are all _later_ than the current
version, and to a tool that doesn't know better, the old news seems to
be new and worth seeing.

So retroactively change the epoch on old news to 0.

upstream says unreproducible with server 1.9, which we have in sid
currently. I'm closing this bug report accordingly. Feel free to
reopen if you can still reproduce with 1.9.x or higher.

I don't see that file mentioned in setxkbmap's manpage and I'm not
sure we should be adding support for such a configuration file
anyway. X starts with configure xkb stuff, and if users don't like it,
they're free to call setxkbmap from their session start-up scripts?

Add unapply-patches and abort-on-upstream-changes to source local-options

This should allow tools like git-buildpackage to remain happy with the
new 3.0 (quilt) format. If you're using git-buildpackage, you might
also want to have

cleaner = debuild clean && rm -rf .pc

in your ~/.gbp.conf until #591858 is fixed.

The graphic card is ati radeon xpress 200M on a compaq presario v2311US.

This is my first bug report and I don't know exactly what to append.
I will be glad to provide more information as requested.

Thanks

I have a two-screen (in the Xorg.conf sense) configuration. If I have a large
image displayed in zoomed-out mode and attempt to zoom in on it, the browser
often takes a few seconds to re-render. If I move my mouse pointer to the other
screen during this re-rendering process, X freezes entirely and accepts no
further
input, including attempts to switch to a virtual console to kill iceweasel. The
only solution is to shut down the entire machine with the power button.

This happens with (at least) large GIFs and JPEGs. An example image which
causes
this behavior is
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Quietdunes.jpg.

If the image is not in the process of re-rendering, meaning that it is fully
zoomed
in or out, there are no problems. It only freezes when I move the mouse onto
the
other screen during the re-rendering process.

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+3
Severity: important

Hello,

I can't use Xorg anymore on my HP Omnibook XE2. I used to use vesa which worked,
but now, when I type "startx", X hangs and eats 100% CPU.
I need to kill it with killall Xorg -s SIGKILL via ssh.
The computer does not respond but via ssh.

Looking to the last line of /var/log/Xorg.0.log, you can see :
(II) VESA(0): VESA VBE OEM: S

This is likely to be the moment of the freeze.

When I use the siliconmotion driver, there is no freeze but it doesn"t worg
neither.

I have the same issue on Arch Linux.

My Xorg.0.log when using siliconmotion driver :

Could you file a separate bug and include a copy of the "Oops" message

If you can pin that down, it would also be very interesting --- if you
downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel, does the problem go away?

Historical versions of packages can be found at snapshot.debian.org

Bug#615491: xserver-xorg-core: does not fill correctly for complex boundaries

2011-02-26 Thread Alan W. Irwin
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.7.7-11
Severity: normal

The PLplot development team have just implemented a demanding 2D fill
rendering test for the X stack where we modify our standard example 27
(see http://plplot.sourceforge.net/examples.php?demo=27) to change
from drawing the boundary line of "spirographic" (e.g., hypotrochoid
and epitrochoid) curves to filling those curves. The boundaries
of the 9 test curves are illustrated in the first attachment.

The fills of those test curves (implemented using XFillPolygon with a
Complex shape and 2 points in the polygon describing the boundary)
have rendering errors.

If the fill is done with the EvenOddRule filling rule (set using
XSetFillRule) the rendering errors are severe. The first through 3rd
test cases show blank results (not illustrated) and the 4th test case
(second attachment) and remaining more complex fill cases (not
illustrated) show severe rendering errors with many fills missing and
some areas filled that should not be.

If the fill is done with the WindingRule filling rule, the fill
rendering errors are much less severe than in the case of the
EvenOddRule filling rule. The first (attached), second (not
illustrated) , and 3rd (not illustrated) test cases look fine, but the
fourth (attached) and remaining (not illustrated) test cases have
minor rendering errors (areas filled which should not be on the
right-hand side of the figure so the total result is asymmetric rather
than symmetric as it should be for the symmetric hypotrochoid and
epitrochoid boundary curves of the fill.

Because most applications and libraries (including the PLplot one)
have great success with X filling with a small (3 or 4) number of
points in the boundary for the normal default EvenOddRule filling
rule, I tried the experiment of reducing the number of points from
2 to 200, but that made no qualitative difference to the severely
bad fill rendering for the EvenOddRule filling rule.

PLplot has a great many device drivers other than the xwin one used to
produce these results. For many of them (for example, Qt-based and
pango/cairo-based devices), I tried both the winding number fill rule
and the odd-even fill rule, and I got results consistent with those
described above where I was using a device that depended on X
directly. That result makes sense since these libraries ultimately
end up calling X to display these filled results for complex
boundaries using either of the two filling rules. So ultimately, all
of these different bad fill results for complex boundaries must be
caused by fill issues in the X stack.

I am not sure which package in the X stack is responsible for filling
so please move this bug report to the appropriate package if
xserver-xorg-core is not responsible for filling. Also, I am virtually
positive this is an upstream issue. I am therefore completely willing
to propagate this bug report elsewhere (if the Debian X strike force
doesn't want to do that themselves), but I need guidance on which
component of the X stack is responsible for filling before I do such
propagation.

Finally, I am not sure exactly how to attach screenshots to Debian
bugs using reportbug so I may have to do that later if it does
not work with this initial report.

OK, X provides the information, although in not very practical format.

So remaining issues (if any) would be in toolkits.

Bug#588566: xserver-xorg-input-all: For amd64 should depend on xserver-xorg-input-kbd and xserver-xorg-input-mouse

2011-02-26 Thread Alan W. Irwin

Hi Alan,

Julien Cristau (09/07/2010):

I haven't actually used it, but the package comes with a README,
which says:

inputattach for Debian
--

This package does not include an initscript to initialize your
devices automatically; it isn't possible to adequately control
inputattach as would be required for an initscript.

To automatically attach a serial device to the input layer, the
recommended approach is simply to add the appropriate lines to
/etc/rc.local, or to a local udev rules file. For example, to
configure a Mouse Systems mouse on the first serial port:
 * in /etc/rc.local
inputattach --daemon -msc /dev/ttyS0
 * or in /etc/udev/010_local.rules
ACTION="add", KERNEL=="ttyS0", RUN+="inputattach --daemon -msc %p"

I'd be interested to know how that works out (I guess you'd use -mman
instead of -msc to reproduce the behaviour from your xorg.conf).

any news about that?

Hi Cyril:

Ultimately, I decided to stick with the legacy approach since that was
working (aside from the dependency issue described by this bug
report), and I didn't want to disrupt a hard-working production system
with a bunch of mouse configuration experiments for special new
software (inputattach) that is specialized for serial devices and
unlikely to be as well tested as the legacy approach.

I do plan to give inputattach a quick try once I move from Debian
Squeeze to Debian testing (probably in 6-12 months after testing has
had a chance to settle down for a while), but if the inputattach
method doesn't work, I will still need to fallback to the legacy
approach at that point.

Of course, this discussion is all just a side issue to my original
bug report on the missing dependency issue for the legacy approach.
Please fix that! Also, please remove the moreinfo tag.

Re: compiz plans

2011-02-26 Thread Janos Guljas
Hi Sean,

Thank you for working on compiz, and for including my packaging. I
will clone git repo and try to be more helpful with sending patches.
If nobody objects, of course.

I did build packages successfully with pbuilder after packaging. I
used it for a while but because of few (I believe upstream) bugs, I
switched to 0.8.4. Window positioning reset at (0, 0) coordinates
after full-screen view (F11), was one of the annoying things. I'll
test new experimental packages and see if there were some useful
upstream patches since last time I checked.

Best,
Janos

P.S.

I changed my default email to ja...@resenje.org, even
ja...@janos.in.rs is still active and will be in future, i had to
abandon it because of spam filters that blocked that address.

Bug#567854: xserver-xorg: kbd actions on seat2 show up on console of seat1

2011-02-26 Thread hugo vanwoerkom
Hi KiBi,
Thanks for answering!
Although my heart is still with multiseat, my hardware changed and I can't
run it anymore: I lost one of the 2 displays.
Also I changed motherboard from an Epox 8VTAI to an Asus M4N98TD EVO, much
better! But it means more power too, so I have to change the PS and the UPS,
I have the former but not the latter: not enough $!
However, the biggest threat to multiseat is gdm: with gdm3 you can't start
multiple servers anymore:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/multiseat-dead
and to keep gdm I already have to 'apt-get -t squeeze install gdm' because
sid no longer has it...

However, this has nothing to do with 567854... Except to say that I cannot
test multiseat with the latest Sid :-(
As soon as I can get funds for a new kbd, new display and new UPS, I will
sure give it another try.

Thanks!

Hugo

Re: compiz plans

2011-02-26 Thread Sean Finney
And hello again!

I haven't heard anything negative back, so I've started with this plan.
The compiz git repo should now be updated and pushed (i disabled the
post-receive hook temporarily when i realized how much noise it was
going to make). So you can take a look there if you want to see how i
was planning on moving forward.

basically, i:

 * branch off debian-unstable and upstream-unstable into -squeeze
branches.
 * reset upstream-unstable to compiz.org/master
 * force-pushed upstream-unstable to our repo
 * in debian-unstable -s theirs merge at upstream 0.9.0 release
 * merge upstream-unstable into debian-unstable at upstream 0.9.2 and
0.9.2.1 releases
 * merge upstream-unstable head into debian-unstable
 * remove debian directory and replace it with Janos' packaging
 * set release to experimental for next upload

I haven't yet tried actually *building* the package yet, but figure
whatever is done will be on top of this.

I'm not sure how much more time I will have for this today, but I'll
continue with a process similar to the above for the rest of the compiz
packages, and when i'm done i'll throw them out to experimental for
everyone to play with. Holler soon and loud if you object :)

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+7
Severity: important

Hi,

I'm experiencing an inability to start up the X server (via gdm)
after an upgrade from lenny to squeeze. The GDM log file

/var/log/gdm/:0.log

includes the following error as the last line:

/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/X: undefined symbol:
BuiltinRegisterFpeFunctions

There is a very vague suggestion (relating to Redhat) in

that this is resolved by the removal of some obsolete libraries. I'm not
able to discover if this might be the case here, because removing the lenny
sources from sources.list and apt-get updateing results in an unrelated
GPG error. I'll let you know if I find out anything on that front later.

might be a kernel bug. Any chance you could give 2.6.37 or 2.6.38rc* a
try? Those are available in sid and experimental respectively.

Hi,

so did the upgrade, today's sid, but what should I say... its still the same.

Did some re-investigation. Running plain xfce at 800x480 gives nice image, no
distortion. At once when I start an opengl application, flickering of the whole
screen begins, not just the window containing the opengl application. The more
opengl "activity" the more distortions. Glitches mostly stop when exiting
opengl application.
I'm out of ideas.

Any way I can help debugging?

Tobi

I don't know what package is related with this bug but i guess it's xserver-
xorg. Sorry if i'm wrong and sorry about my english.

I'm using this driver http://ncc-1701a.homelinux.net/~linux-sis/downloads/xorg-
driver-sis671-0.9.1.tar.gz because sis doesn't work and vesa has a low
resolution (<= 800x600).

When I watch something with VLC in fullscreen, X crashes. I don't know why. Two
weeks ago, with this same driver, it was working. I just formated my laptop and
now it's not working anymore.

Thank you.

I'm not sure that's a good plan. The way it's currently started, the
ssh-agent process dies together with the session, that would probably
not happen if we start it as suggested.

Cheers,

Severity: normal

Hello,

I tried this on a live CD but I would expect this has implications for
normal systems as well.

The issue is:

I have /etc/default/keyboard set up with my preferred keymap which I
heard is the way to set up system-wide keyboard layout in X.

I have a live-CD with X preinstalled and on that CD the keyboard works
fine.

On another CD the X server is not installed so I install it with

aptitude install xserver-xorg icewm nodm

Running nodm as root then gives me a X session where the keyboard is
*not* set up.

Looking through X logs I see that on the system with preinstalled X the
layout is logged Xorg.log as the one in /etc/default/keyboard, on the CD
where I install the X server after boot the layout is logged and works
as just "us".

keyboard-configuration is installed in either case.

is it still happening in squeeze or higher, with nouveau or vesa? We
(Debian X maintainers) don't support nvidia, and no longer support nv
(as it's been deprecated upstream).

Package: base (Distribution Lenny)
Version: Debian 5.0 x86
version: Debian 5.0 AMD64

I installed a new mother-board, the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO,
with the AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor (Quad core, 2.6
GHz) with 4 GB of RAM

My display is a Princeton SENergy 560.

Boot went OK until it got to the point that it would enter
the X system. The display then went black, and a display
window popped up which said:

   OUT-OF-RANGE
   Hf: 30KHz - 70KHz
   Vf: 50Hz - 90Hz
   Current Frequency:
   90.3KHz, 60.0Hz

I then downloaded the Mini iso file for the AMD64 version
of Lenny and installed the system. The same thing
happened with this version.

Each of the steps required changing mother boards, for a
total of at least 6 times!

I then downloaded a mini-iso of SUSE, and installed it.
Boot occurred into X with no problems.

I cannot give any detail version numbers because I CANNOT
BOOT Debian unless I change mother boards, and I might
also have to change the GRUB configuration - I'm not sure

about this.

Please fix this so I will be able to again use Debian!

Could you please tell us if you're still having issues with squeeze or

might have helped fix such issues. See our started doc about that:

(FWIW, since you're talking about the kernel, there's 2.6.37 in sid
and 2.6.38rc* in experimental)

If that's only an issue on the X intel driver side, you may want to
check what happens with src:libdrm and src:xserver-xorg-video-intel

when I am running gkrellm in Xorg and then switch from Xorg to console,
Xorg consumes about 12 % of CPU.

This happens when gkrellm or firefox displaying web page with flash is
running. I tried the same with application like mplayer or vlc and
problem did not occur. Moreover when I run only mplayer playing some
video and I switch to console, Xorg consumes nearly no CPU time.

When I am in Xorg, gkrellm runs OK, the problem occurs only when I
switch from Xorg to console. Similarly with flash. In case of gkrellm
running, Xorg consumes about 2% of CPU when in Xorg and 12% when in
console. In case of flash, Xorg consumes about 4% of CPU when switched
to Xorg and 24% when switched to console. This CPU usage is
approximately same all the time I am switched to console.

straces of gkrellm seems to be same whether I am in Xorg or in console.
So I tried to strace Xorg process. I don't know what to look for, but
here are some statistics if you are interested.

I ran strace on Xorg for 60 seconds with and without gkrellm running:

Running

/etc/X11/Xsession

does the X session setup and starts a session.

However, it looks like the X server resets between merging ~/.Xresources
and starting the final application.

the workaround is to start an application beforehand like

xmag&
/etc/X11/Xsession

It may be possible that another script is normally used to do that but
skimming through Xsession(5) does not reveal any reference to such
script.

If I were to write/package another display manager I would likely need
the Xsession script to perform correctly in absence of any other X client.

I've got a few hundreds reasons to ask if submitters still have issue
and/or still care before looking too much into a bug. Hundreds bugs.

Blah, what I meant.

$ head -5 /etc/X11/Xsession

Really, display managers and xinit/startx users should be able to
start a first client, and/or pass -noreset.

Closing this bug accordingly.

I'm not sure why you filed this bug against the X server though.

Yes, as you can see in the output of xrandr --verbose, the subpixel

Hi,

first I have to say that I am not sure if this is the appropriate place
to report this bug. However, I have no clue what causes it, which makes
it difficult for me to convince myself that it was not reported
elsewhere or what place would be more appropriate. So, I'd be glad if
you could forward this any other/better place. Thanks.

Since a few weeks I'm experiencing the situation that from time to time
local X clients cannot connect to the local X server:

hanke@balin:~$ xcalc
No protocol specified
Error: Can't open display: :0

While at the same time foreign clients (via SSH connection) can connect
without problems:

hanke@feanor:/media/local2/working/hanke/catface2$ xcalc
Warning: Cannot convert string "calculator" to type Pixmap
Warning: Cannot convert string
"gray3?foreground=gray70&background=gray85" to type Pixmap

This appears to happen randomly and this situation resolves itself after
a few minutes.

I first discovered this issue on a machine at work which is running lenny
(from which I am filing this report). But recently it also started to
happen on my laptop and my home desktop machine. While I cannot
determine the exact time where the problem started on the 'work' machine
(which I update almost daily) I was able to track it down to a single
APT upgrade on my desktop machine. Unfortunately, (as I do not upgrade
it that often) it involves almost 700 packages, so I'm not sure whether
this really adds useful information. But I can nevertheless provide it,
if helpful.

I also tried looking whether the xauth would provide something helpful,
but this output looks identical in both cases:

hanke@balin:~$ xauth list
balin:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 1bacbd81d88b69b5d089c69454cac1a6
[fe80::219:99ff:fe2b:e81c]:0  MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1

balin/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 1bacbd81d88b69b5d089c69454cac1a6

Help is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

I suspect the device might be wrong. You could and probably should be
setting the keymap through keyboard-configuration, too:

Please let us know how it goes.

How would it not?

Does X server provide any hints to the rendering libs about the
packing of r/g/b in different parts of screen?

AFAIK the rendering libs operate on the assumption that it is the same
on all screens, does not change, ...

Bug#615197: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Screen corruptions to due insufficient clipping

2011-02-26 Thread Thomas Richter

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.13.0-5
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

The xserver-xorg-video-intel display driver does not seem to clip some
render operations appropriately to the containing window. To reproduce
this bug, open for example a document with "xpdf" and then open the
requester to search for a string in the document. Drag this requester
over the window boundaries of xpdf. The result is that when "xpdf"
repaints its window, the render operation that redraws the boundary of
the xpdf main window also renders into the requester, partially
overwriting its contents - vertical or horizontal grey lines distort
its contents.

Apparently, clipping the line drawing or rectangle drawing operation
to the visible part of the xpdf main window does not work correctly
and renders also into the requester window on top of it instead of
clipping to the visible part only.

This bug does not go away by disabling the "Tiling" option, or the
"Dri2" extension, or the "AIGLX" option of the X server. The old i810
intel driver, however, handled this correctly in the "lenny" distribution.

This bug may be a duplicate of 592855,596085,614296,554427,558396.

Note that the kernel is already a 2.6.35.11, not the native Debian
kernel. However, the bug also appears on with native Debian kernel as
well.

Bug#615193: xserver-xorg-core: der server bricht in verbindung mit xdm und nouveau zusammen

2011-02-26 Thread Klaus Lademann
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.7.7-11
Severity: normal

Sorry in german. its better for me.
