Bug#619019: xserver-xorg-video-intel: latest update to debian squeeze made the mouse pointer invisible in my openbox/gdm session
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.13.0-6 Severity: important The latest update to debian squeeze seems to have introduced the Bug reported here http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550942 . (Upstream bug report can be found here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29413 .), i.e. after boot-up the mouse pointer is invisible (though otherwise fully functional). As described in the upstream bug report going through a hibernate or a suspend cycle makes the mouse pointer reappear. Bug#601889: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X crash on start with intel 82830M GFC
Hello! I've tried 2.6.38 and 2.6.37 kernels with similar results even more 2.6.38 didn't booted. Definitively its hard to get linux working on the Dell inspiron 2600 laptop. By now I'm using the vesa driver to get Xorg working but I can't switch to the text consoles and came back X because I only get a distorted image in the desktop. I'll could try a bios update to A09 version despite that there is a lot of references on internet warning that the A11 bios version becomes the system unbootable with linux After a lot of work in fine tunning, 2 problems still persists: 1-The most urgent: Xorg is failing with the intel driver 2-The second: synaptic touchpad don' t work but I still have standard mouse support. I can not see anything sane. Bottom half of screen is black, only upper half is used by X but it is so messed up that I can not recognize anything where to click. The computer is actually working, so I can switch to console with CTRL-ALT-F1. But at this time the screen is messed up on console too. The screen is full of some random symbols [letters/puctuation marks] and all those letter kind of dance [to me it seems like sync signal is bad]. I can type some commands but and see that some characters on screen are changing but it does not echo character that I type but some random character. And command do get executed. I can for example type: $ sudo reboot and computer do reboot, but I can not see what I am typing. Basically at this point computer is not usable either in graphic mode or on console. Just to make sure my graphic card or monitor are not dead I installed Lenny again and all worked well. If I use 'vesa' as driver instead of 'mga' the graphical desktop shows OK but it is not usable because the useage of CPU by X is 100% and it takes ages to open any window [xterm or xclock for example]. For fastest fix that comes to mind now is to use driver from lenny. Is it possible? Or can I download and recompile lennys driver to work in squeeze? Bug#619033: xserver-xorg-video-intel: External screen shakes
but you can set the sync modes before X startup or after - so saying it is UBUNTU's error is wrong. it is Ubuntu's correctness to use the better frequencies maybe VERY NORMAL. I have used vga extended cables or switchbox, but not with that exact card - and using them reduces quality video stability IS very picky / requires a ton of fidelity and bandwidth. thus network cables can't carry video. stability also depends on the monitor's electronics / abilities.
