It'd be nice to try that if it doesn't work out of the box.

 KiBi.

With the Paulsbo stub driver it would work I expect.

I think I can try the Squeeze live CD, don't have an experimental CD ready.

Thanks

Bug#494846: Tagging #494846 as pending

Pushed that in debian-unstable, tagging pending accordingly; I might
revert it if there are objections from debian-x@ though. I don't care
 much either way:

 | commit ca4dab690f53542081eade6d77b19412ad357be6
 | Author: Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org
 | Date: Mon Apr 4 04:27:03 2011 +0200
 |
 | Switch Architecture to any (Closes: #494846, #546565).
 |
 | It's probably useful on a very restricted set of architectures only,
 | but being able to upload from an “ordinary” architecture (like amd64
 | or i386) is always nice. No longer hardcoding many architectures means
 | fewer troubles for porters.

I think we should remove -tga instead at this point.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#620813: xserver-xorg-video-s3: laptop display distorted after resume from sleep

2011-04-04 Thread Eric Brown
Package: xserver-xorg-video-s3
Version: 1:0.6.3-2
Severity: important

Running a Dell Latitude C610 with onboard ATI Radeon Mobility. When resuming
from sleep mode, the display is completely distorted. I can still enter my
password to unlock the screen and use keyboard shortcuts to shut down, but
that's it.

This was an occasional problem under Lenny, but occurs consistently under
Squeeze.

Bug#620813: xserver-xorg-video-s3: laptop display distorted after resume from sleep

2011-04-04 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Eric Brown d...@innonfirst.com (04/04/2011):
 Package: xserver-xorg-video-s3
 Version: 1:0.6.3-2
 Severity: important

Running a Dell Latitude C610 with onboard ATI Radeon Mobility. When
resuming from sleep mode, the display is completely distorted. I can
still enter my password to unlock the screen and use keyboard
shortcuts to shut down, but that's it.

why are you submitting this bug against the s3 driver? You seem to be
running the radeon driver…

As KMS is enabled, it's more likely a kernel issue anyway. To confirm
this, try if suspend/resume works properly without X running.

Bah, unless removed from fd.o, it doesn't make much harm. Just a drop

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.18
Severity: important

I hope this is not a dupe. I tried to go through the 1270+ bug list, but
got tired at 700+, in the non-important bugs. I feel this is important
enough to be tagged important.

Gnucash, emacs and others were broken by the 7.0 migration. Emacs
complains:

Warning: Cannot convert string
-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string
-*-helvetica-medium-r-*--*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1 to type FontStruct

Gnucash:

The font -adobe-helvetica-medium-o-normal--*-120-*-*-*-*-*-* does not support
all the required character sets for the current locale fr_CA
  (Missing character set ISO8859-1)
  (Missing character set ISO8859-1)
Fatal Error: gnucash_style_set_register...(): Cannot load fallback font:
-adobe-helvetica-medium-o-normal--*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*

Here's a screenshot of how emacs likes it:

http://anarcat.ath.cx/snaps/fonts-busted.png

At least it starts... gnucash just dies there.

Any pointers? Fonts are working otherwise, and I've changed my paths in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf...

A.

Package: emacs-snapshot-gtk
Version: 1:20060512-1
Severity: important

Running Emacs (with or without -q), I get a window that looks like this on
startup:

http://paulproteus.acm.jhu.edu/tmp/snapshot14.png

In the Emacs welcome screen, the GTK2 menus look fine, but every character
(except newline, maybe) seems to be replaced by a box.

This does not happen for regular text. For example, when I switch to the *scratch* buffer, you can see at
http://paulproteus.acm.jhu.edu/tmp/snapshot15.png that the colored text works correctly but that the *scratch* label for the buffer does not appear
correctly.

I don't think this is because I am missing fonts, but I'm certainly willing to run font tests that might help find this problem. I don't know much
about the font system, so I ran fc-cache and sudo fc-cache; neither helped.

My locale is en_US.UTF-8. I tried with export LC_ALL=POSIX, but I got the
same behavior.

Hi,

Several of the files in the archive belonging to your package are

Bug#508867: still exists I think

2011-04-04 Thread Tim Connors
reopen #508867
thanks

Didn't realise the bug was marked as moreinfo.

As much as the kernel is claimed to be fixed, I'm pretty sure I was still
seeing this bug with 2.6.32. I have quit the job with the machine I
encountered this on, and my other machines are in storage, so I can't
verify for another couple of weeks until I get those machines out of
storage and the interweb connected again.

But can't we just swap the order of the access() and open() as a stopgap
(a stopgap only, since I still believe, as per my third message to this
bug, that the access() is a racy check, I should probably file that as a
separate bug for someone with more of a security-inclination to actually
check)?

That way the vfs cache will definitely be invalidated (by the open), and
the access can still do its (faulty) permissions check on the real user
and bail out before any harm is done.

Both calls in AuGetAddr.c and AuGetBest.c would need be modified, and
don't forget to close auth_file if it was successfully opened, but
access() failed.

Bug#620858: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: slow overall performance upon wake-up from suspend

2011-04-04 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.0-1
Severity: normal

Upon resuming from suspend, overall performance and responsiveness of my
desktop is incredibly degraded. I'm not sure what is causing this, but
restarting X brings things back to normal. I'm using Mesa 7.10 which now
locks glxgears to the refresh rate of the monitor, normally I get a
value very near 60 FPS(Hz), but upon resuming I get 30 FPS. It's like
the refresh rate of my monitor gets messed up after resuming. I'm using
a vanilla kernel 2.6.37.6. But have seen this behaviour with 2.6.38 in
main.

CB If you're still around, any chance you could tell us how it goes with
CB squeeze or sid please?

I am still around, but the Sun monitor and the Sparc box, alas, are
not. They died around 2005...

Bug#392514: problem with XF86Config-4

2011-04-04 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Jurij Smakov ju...@wooyd.org (04/04/2011):
It should have read the card you have is Sun Expert3D. The Creator
and Elite3D are actually supported, Expert3D is not (well, basic
framebuffer functions do work, but X does not work). I don't think
there is hope, even though it was mentioned recently on sparclinux
mailing list, this post provides a summary:

Thanks for the clarification and for the pointer.

Bug#620858: slow performance continues

2011-04-04 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #620858

I set vblank_mode=0 using a .drirc file in my home directory. This
caused the overall slow down I was only experiencing after resuming from
suspend to manifest itself all the time. Framerate in glxgears was no
longer in sync with refresh rate, but it was quite poor (200 fps). In
the past I've gotten more like 800 fps (radeon) and 1200 (catalyst on
lenny). Also, only by moving the cursor with the touchpad, causes the
framerate in glxgears to drop further.

Desktop experience is quite slow. I pulled mesa 7.10.1 from experimental
to see if this would help, but it didn't. The good news is that, after
waking from suspend graphics performance is the same.

Also I would like to correct a statement I made on my first email.
Restarting X does not fix the problem (when vblank_mode is NOT set to
zero).

$ glxinfo | grep renderer
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI RS480

Note also that I'm now using 2.6.38-2 kernel.
