Way to Not quite. I see that I had the MatchProduct clauses in my mouse entries, so I guess that I knew about them when I last looked at this stuff. I am embarrassed to see that there was nothing in the Synaptics section, but the bug report was about things that used to work suddenly breaking. Ok, so I was just lucky in that it happened to work. I have been experimenting with a number of new clauses, but they are not yet behaving as I expect. I am reading and rereading man pages, so maybe I will get there. But it is tough when you only look at this stuff every couple of years or so when things suddenly break for no apparent reason. I bug report partly to help others who are not very familar with particular packages fix this sort of thing easily. ael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#624576: 50-synaptics.conf
I have just discovered /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf I hadn't seen any documenataion of these new configuration files :-( Moving 50-synaptics.conf out of the way changes things: the touchpad is now configured in some as yet unknown way. I use the same xorg.conf on several machines for convenience. It has always worked fine with the Indentifier parameter making sure that everything works properly - which it does. I guess it was confusing to include the trackball entries in a bug report, but I think they are harmless in this situation. It is not those entries that are being applied to every device: only the trackpad. Maybe that is a clue: they have Driver specified, but the Synaptics entry doesn't. Meanwhile, I have just dicovered /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf Moving it out of the way improves things, but my parameters are then lost completely. I will put that in another post. ael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#624576: Specifying "Device"
I tried adding Option "Device""/dev/input/event10" into xorg.conf in the hope that it would ensure that the configuration would be applied to the touchpad alone. The man page seems to be out of date. The result: total lockup. No keyboard, no response from buttons. Required power cycle to reboot :-) I am now trying to find where InputClass "evdev touchpad catchall" and InputClass "touchpad catchall are defined and whether these are the root cause of the problem. ael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". If you can figure that out from the driver that would be nice. In theory, as far as I can tell: - the IO bar is mapped in TRIDENTPreInit, then unmapped before TRIDENTPreInit returns - it's mapped again in each server generation's TRIDENTScreenInit, and unmapped in TRIDENTCloseScreen I'm not seeing the error by quick inspection, but I may be missing something obvious... Bug#624576: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Touchpad configuration lost after upgrade: InputClass being applied to the wrong devices
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 1.4.0-1 Severity: important After the recent testing upgrades, my Synaptics configuration specified in my xorg.conf:- -- Section "InputClass" Identifier "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" Option "LeftEdge" "1700" Option "RightEdge" "5700" Option "TopEdge" "1700" Option "BottomEdge""5100" Option "FingerLow" "25" Option "FingerHigh""30" Option "MaxTapTime""180" Option "MaxTapMove""220" Option "VertScrollDelta" "100" Option "MinSpeed" "0.09" Option "MaxSpeed" "0.6" Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "true" Option "TapButton1""1" Option "SHMConfig" "true" EndSection -- seems to be applied not just to the Touchpad, but to many other devices. It looks as if since this is invalid for most of them, the touchpad driver is somehow partly disabled or misconfigured. At least many of the setting do not take effect: it looks as if it is basically behaving as a PS/2 mouse. Googling shows others seeing this sort of problem, so it is probably not debian specific. All has been working perfectly until the last couple of days: I guess it was upgrade to 1.2.2-2.1.4.0-1 that triggered the problem. I tried to identify a udev rule that might be involved, but nothing jumped out. Will try to investigate further. I guess the Xorg.log.0 file below gives most of the relevant information about what is going wrong. -- Package-specific info: X server symlink status: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jan 17 2010 /etc/X11/X -> /usr/bin/Xorg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1783236 Mar 26 07:55 /usr/bin/Xorg VGA-compatible devices on PCI bus: -- 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27ae] (rev 03) Xorg X server configuration file status: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1119 Apr 15 2010 /etc/X11/xorg.conf Contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf: --- Section "InputClass" Identifier "marble" Driver "evdev" MatchProduct"ImExPS/2 Logitech Explorer Mouse|Logitech USB Trackball" MatchIsPointer "true" Option "ButtonMapping" "1 9 3 4 5 6 7 8 2" EndSection Section "InputClass" Identifier "marble_FX" Driver "evdev" MatchProduct"ImExPS/2 Logitech Explorer Mouse|Logitech USB Trackball|PS2++ Logitech Mouse|PS2++ Logitech TrackMan" MatchIsPointer "true" # Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "EmulateWheel" "true" Option "EmulateWheelButton""8" # Option "EmulateWheelTimeout" "300" Option "XAxisMapping" "6 7" Option "YAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputClass" Identifier "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" Option "LeftEdge" "1700" Option "RightEdge" "5700" Option "TopEdge" "1700" Option "BottomEdge""5100" Option "FingerLow" "25" Option "FingerHigh""30" Option "MaxTapTime""180" Option "MaxTapMove""220" Option "VertScrollDelta" "100" Option "MinSpeed" "0.09" Option "MaxSpeed" "0.6" Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "true" Option "TapButton1""1" Option "SHMConfig" "true" EndSection /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d does not exist. No problems :-) Looking at even older logs here I saw these updates: xserver-xorg 1:7.5+8 -> 1:7.6+6 xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.7-13 -> 2:1.9.5-1 xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.5+8 -> 1:7.6+6 xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-6 -> 1:2.6.0-2 xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.2.2-2 -> 1.4.0-1 xserver-xorg-input-wacom 0.10.5+20100416-1 -> 0.10.10+20110203-1 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.1-2+squeeze1 -> 1:6.14.0-1 xserver-xorg-video-mach64 6.8.2-3 -> 6.8.2-5 xserver-xorg-video-r128 6.8.1-3 -> 6.8.1-5 xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.13.1-2+squeeze1 -> 1:6.14.0-1 Downgrading them back to the older versions and everything is fine now. Package: mesa Version: 7.10.2-1 Severity: normal In mesa 7.10 shadows in some applications runnning on r300 class hardware (r300g driver) can be non-contiguous. This results in some large shaded objects being striped and shadows on smaller objects flashing as they move through the scene. This is resolved with current mesa git (7.11). Note that another possible effect of this issue is that some objects have sharp totally black shadows where there are ususally none visible when the scene is rendered on different hardware or different driver version. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing'), (400, 'unstable'), (395, 'experimental'), (300, 'stable-i386'), (300, 'oldstable'), (280, 'testing-i386'), (270, 'unstable-i386'), (150, 'experimental-i386'), (65, 'oldstable-i386') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#624548: xserver-xorg: Segmentation fault while opening rxvt
Hi! On Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 11:35 AM, Cyril Brulebois wrote: > it's always good to provide full backtraces, see: > http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/report-bugs.html > http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/use-gdb.html I have followed http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/XserverDebugging to get both backtraces before. By including this in /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf: [daemon] LocalXserverCommand=/usr/bin/Xorg -br -verbose -audit 0 -novtswitch -core I've got /var/lib/gdm3/core (and not /etc/X11/core; is there something wrong about this?). The backtraced gdb output of the core is attached. Just in case it's important, it has been backtraced by: set logging on handle SIGPIPE nostop bt full > (Anyway, trying without the FontPath should be easy enough to check, > if you want to make sure about #615975.) I didn't have any FontPath "unix/:port" in xorg.conf (actually I don't have a xorg.conf; just created one via "Xorg -configure", to include Option "NoTrapSignals" in it). But even after commenting all the FontPath in this generated xorg.conf, the problem still persists. Is it another way to get a better backtrace or something else that I can do, please? Thank you! Bug#624548: xserver-xorg: Segmentation fault while opening rxvt
Hi, Nelson A. de Oliveira (29/04/2011): > Trying to open a rxvt terminal (urxvt) my X server just crashes; or > it restarts (from gdm) or it just stays crashed and frozen. it's always good to provide full backtraces, see: http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/report-bugs.html http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/use-gdb.html especially when it's so easily reproduced. :) (Anyway, trying without the FontPath should be easy enough to check, if you want to make sure about #615975.)
