Bug#622401: xserver-xorg-video-trident: Error message and exit with iceape and iceweasel. One solution.
On Sun, May 8, 2011 at 01:25:01 +, Bjarni Ingi Gislason wrote: The X server issues PreInit that maps and unmaps. Then it issues ScreenInit which maps. iceweasel causes a second map though ScreenInit, which leads to error. That should never happen. ScreenInit is called at the start of a session, and CloseScreen should be called before the next ScreenInit. That's not a client bug. That is, a vertical bar on the display appears as if it is a slanted line from the upper left to lower right. probably a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel. After a quick look, I don't think there's a fix for that in current upstream master. I'd suggest filing a bug upstream: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html Please let us know the bug number/URL so that we can mark it as forwarded there. You might want to give the kernel in experimental a shot (that's an rc for 2.6.39), too. Mraw, KiBi. In my initial report, I neglected to mention that that resolution works just fine when we boot the old 2.6.32 kernel. I have installed and booted into the experimental kernel, and it exhibited the same behavior. I have not filed a defect with the upstream because I wanted to see if you still thought that was a good idea after integrating this new information. Though the man section for XShmAttach says if all goes well, you will get a non-zero status, back this is counter to the usage of Status in Xlib itself where 0 means Success and no-zero specifies the specific error. XShmPixmapFormat does not return a Status but the pixmap format or 0 on failure. So there we go: I am an upstream developer of XBoard, and I use an Ubuntu 8.04 system. I take the sources of XBoard 4.5.2a from the git repository of http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/xboard , and build an XBoard from it with the commands (in the directory where I unpacked the tar ball): ./autogen.sh ./configure make I then run it with the Chess engine Glaurung (package: glaurung, version: 2.0.1-2), with the aid of the adapter Polyglot (package: polyglot, version 1.4.53b) through the command ./xboard -fcp glaurung -fUCI -size 49 From the menu I select Engine - Engine #1 Settings. A dialog pops up that looks like this: http://hgm.nubati.net/settings.png(I also attached this image) Look at the size of the button labeled Clear Hash near the upper right. It is not high enough. That is what I am complaining about. This dialog is generated from a list-driven dialog generator, and the code specifying the button is the same code (in another iteration of the loop) that generated, for instance, the button marked Polyglot Save far below it. This code is: j=0; XtSetArg(args[j], XtNfromVert, option[i].min 1 ? lastrow : last); j++; XtSetArg(args[j], XtNlabel, _(option[i].name)); j++; if(option[i].min 1) { XtSetArg(args[j], XtNfromHoriz, last); j++; } else { XtSetArg(args[j], XtNfromHoriz, NULL); j++; lastrow = forelast; } if(option[i].max) XtSetArg(args[j], XtNwidth, option[i].max); j++; if(option[i].textValue) { // special for buttons of New Variant dialog XtSetArg(args[j], XtNsensitive, appData.noChessProgram || option[i].value 0 || strstr(first.variants, VariantName(option[i].value))); j++; XtSetArg(args[j], XtNborderWidth, (gameInfo.variant == option[i].value)+1); j++; } option[i].handle = (void*) (dialog = last = XtCreateManagedWidget(option[i].name, commandWidgetClass, form, args, j)); As you can see, no vertical size is specified, and I would expect the size to be chosen based on the height of the font inside. Why do I think Xaw is responsible for this? Well, the buttons generated by this code behave extremely erratic. I have seen examples where they re ridiculously wide (more than doubling the width of the dialog they are in), and on opening a dialog with no elements other than an OK and cancel button (for instance when the engine used was Crafty, ./xboard -fcp crafty) I suffer inexpliquable crashes. Trying to locate the point of the crash by putting printf calls in the code can make the crash go away, although eventually I was able to pinpoint it to the call of XtPopup for the dialog. All this is very poorly reproducible; the example with Glaurung seems to reproduce reliably, though, which is why I report that. This whole affair has the smell of the use of an uninitialized local variable in the code responsible for calculating the initial size of a widget of this class. Very often it seems to inherit the width of a widget just above or left of it. I can make the problem go away by explicitly specifying an XtNwidth or XtNheight for the widget, (e.g. by setting option[i].max non-zero for the width), but this is very cumbersome to do if you don't know the text or font of the message it should contain in advance. attachment: settings.png---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Hi, h.g. muller h.g.mul...@hccnet.nl (08/05/2011): Someone pointed out that the bug is in the code fragment I quoted: missng braces enclosing the j++ with the conditional. Bug#626109: xserver-xorg-core: Bad auto-init of Xorg with 2 graphic cards (one being invalid)
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.9.5-1 Severity: important Tags: d-i Hi, After discuting and disculping the nouveau driver from the last update, it seems that the designated culprit for the bad Xorg initialization with the last update may be xserver-xorg-core, even thought it didn't appeared in the last update (but it may be a side effect of my very peculiar situation). Bug#626115: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: kernel crash after period of user inactivity
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.14.1-1 Severity: normal While actively working on my laptop, I experience no problems. However, when I am away from the machine for more than about 5 or 10 minutes, the screen either goes blank (still backlit, but unresponsive to keyboard presses) or I get a kernel dump. Below is a hand-typed representation of what I hope is the relevent information from the last kernel dump (subject to typos). Note - I tried and failed to manually trigger the problem by triggering my xscreensaver and by executing: set dpms standby|suspend|off|on etc. This problem began after upgrading to xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.14.1-1 Thanks for all your work! jamie invalid opcode: Pid: 5107, comm: kworker/0:0 Tainted: G C 2.6.38-2-amd64 #1 TOSHIBA Satellite T115D/Satellite T115D Call Trace: kref_sub ttm_bo_reserve [ttm] radeon_unpin_work_func [radeon] T.765 [radeon] radeon_unpin_work_func [radeon] process_one_work worker_thread worker_thread worker_thread kthread kernel_thread_helper kthread kernel_thread_helper Code: .. Bug#626115: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: kernel crash after period of user inactivity
Hi, jamie j...@mayfirst.org (08/05/2011): This problem began after upgrading to xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.14.1-1 from which version? And does reverting (snapshot.d.o might help for that) to the previous version gets you rid of that issue? Did you switch kernels in the same timeframe?
