Bug#651316: libdrm-intel1: X.org crashes when I try to play a video

Hello,

 Hi,

 Modestas Vainius mo...@debian.org (10/12/2011):
  tags 651316 patch fixed-upstream
  thanks

please don't do that. There are several bugs here, plenty of reporters,
at least 3 involved packages, and different causes. That's enough of a
 mess.

I had the same problem. The backtrace of X crashes was:
  […]
I upgraded libdrm to the master branch as of writing (
  dd9a5b4f7fb07c78db4e7481bedca1b981030e3f )
and the problem is gone now.

I suggest pulling the relevant patches into the debian package as the
problem is pretty serious. I was not able to get any video to play due
  this crash.

With latest master (libdrm+xxvintel) and patched libva, crashes seem to
be gone, but playback is still failing, at least on a machine of mine.
With latest libdrm master (and released xxvintel), I'm still getting
crashes, possibly with an extra kernel bug, so I'm keeping this bug open
 with no tag for now.

If X crashes on me with libdrm master, I will let you know. Yet for now, it is
rock solid: no crashes and playback is fine so it's kind of relief for me.

Do I understand correctly that this bug is _not_ present in
libdrm/2.4.27-1 ?
Assuming that this is correct, I am dropping the corresponding found
version, so that libdrm is prevented from migrating to testing, until
this bug is properly fixed.

If anyone knows better, please do not hesitate to correct me.

Thanks to all the people that are involved and are working to fix this
issue!

2011-12-11 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Dmitry Kolesnikov kastan...@gmail.com (23/10/2011):
I would like to report a bug, but I've found that exactly the same
problem already have a bug report #608045. It seems to me that the
person who closed the bug was inconsiderate. I am experiencing
problems due to this bug (which is part of a larger bug #607138), and
do not know what to do next. Should I report the same bug again, or is
there some special way to ask you look closely?

that was not inconsiderate:

kibi@bowmore:~/debian-x/lib/libx11.git$ git grep ru_UA|grep -i utf
nls/compose.dir.pre:en_US.UTF-8/Compose:ru_UA.UTF-8
nls/locale.dir.pre:en_US.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE: ru_UA.UTF-8

I'm cc-ing the bug and its submitter for reference.

So, as Julien said: stop using an invalid locale name.

Bug#651693: gdm3: Please make it possible to specify X server options again

2011-12-11 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.0.4-4
Severity: important

Hi,

some time ago I wrote in [1]:
| Getting a core file
|
| Using gdm3: The idea is to tweak the daemon’s LocalXserverCommand
| setting, adding the -core option. As of gdm3 2.30, the defaults can be
| found in /usr/share/gdm/gdm.schemas. Sample /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf
| excerpt:
|
| [daemon]
| LocalXserverCommand=/usr/bin/Xorg -br -verbose -audit 0 -novtswitch -core

 1. http://x.debian.net/howto/use-gdb.html

With the current gdm3 version, it appears that:
 - this option is gone.
 - there's no way to specify an extra (here: -core) X server option (that
   looks hardcoded in daemon/gdm-server.c).

Please make it possible to specify some extra options again.

KiBi.

Re: Debian testing: alt-tab doesn't switch windows on LXDE

2011-12-11 Thread Steinar Bang
 Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org:
 Steinar Bang s...@dod.no (10/12/2011):

I installed the lxde desktop, and it works fine, except that Alt-Tab
doesn't work for switching windows, and Alt-F2 doesn't pop up a run
 command dialog box.

 Alt vs. Meta?

Good call! I started looking for old configuration files, and it turns
out I had a really ancient ~/.Xmodmap file, containing the two lines:
 keycode 64 = Meta_L
 keycode 0x6D = Multi_key

When I removed the ~/.Xmodmap file, and logged out and back in, the
Alt-Tab and Alt-F2 shortcuts started working.

I verified that Alt worked as Meta on Emacs, and that composing
multi-charpress characters (eg. ä) worked.

The home directory version control of this file doesn't go further back
than 2004, helpfully saying Initial checkin. But I suspect it go all
the way back to my Solaris days of the late 90-ies.

Thanks!

Author: Chad Versace chad.vers...@linux.intel.com

intel: Fix separate stencil in builtin DRI2 backend

intelAllocateBuffer() was oblivious to separate stencil buffers. This
patch fixes it to allocate a non-tiled stencil buffer with special pitch,
just as the DDX does.

Without this, any app that attempted to create an EGL surface with stencil
bits would crash. Of course, this affected only environments that used the
builtin DRI2 backend, such as Android and Wayland.

Fixes GLBenchmark2.1 on Android on gen7.

Note: This is a candidate for the 7.11 branch.

Bug#649002: after upgrading to latest version, iBook touchpad stopped working

Hi Raf et al.,

Raf Czlonka rafal.czlo...@gmail.com (16/11/2011):
 Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

 Version: 1.5.0-1
 Severity: grave

 Hi,

After upgrading to the new version, touchpad on my 12 iBook G4 stopped
working and all I get is the error below (full log attached).

thanks for your report. I have finally found some time to investigate
this problem; it's been reported upstream and the patch has been merged,
so a fixed package should appear soon.

I took the liberty of blogging what I did, so that one can learn how to
get a detailed/useful bug report upstream:
  http://blog.mraw.org/2011/12/12/Fixing_synaptics_on_powerpc/

By doing that, you ensure the upstream maintainers get your bug report,
even if the distro maintainer is otherwise busy or lagging behind in the
bug triaging area. Now, the upstream maintainers might have a life too,
but that improves the chances of getting a fix sooner than later.

Mraw,
KiBi.

Bug#651784: xserver-xorg: X server crashes when playing video

2011-12-11 Thread Damu
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.6+9
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
X server crashes when playing videos. I tried playing videos using both mplayer
and vlc, but seeing X server crashing both times. This is happening everytime I
am playing any video. I do not see any error in the kernel log or xserver log.

Thanks
Damu
