Bug#653029: xserver-xorg-video-r128: r128 Idle timed out, resetting engine... messages when starting x.org

2011-12-22 Thread Bruce Robson
Package: xserver-xorg-video-r128
Version: 6.8.1-5+b2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I had been succesfully running lenny (and before that Etch) on this computer
and have now wiped my root partion (keeping the /home partition) and
installed the 19th Dec 2011 Wheezy/testing weekly build. I initially
installed without an X server. I've now got Internet access working giving
the abilty for aptitude to download packages and have installed the X
server and KDE.

Now when I boot the computer, at the point that the X server should start,
the screen changes to mainly white then freezes and the computer doesn't
respond to the keyboard or mouse. The computer isn't completely locked
as I'm running an ssh server and I can ssh into the computer.

The problem is specific to the r128 driver as when I moved the ati_drv.so
mach64_drv.so r128_drv.so and radeon_drv.so files out of
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers. The X server and KDE work (very slowly)
using the VESA driver.

I moved the files out instead of disabling the driver in xorg.conf as
I appear not to have an xorg.conf file. There is a /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
directory which contains files 10-evdev.conf and 50-joystick.conf

test/xi2: Fix infinite loop in test_convert_XITouchOwnershipEvent

The touchid test was using a loop like:

for(i = 1; i < 0x; i <<= 1)

When 'i' is a 32-bit variable, this infinite loops as it goes from
0x8000 to 0. 'i' is declared as 'long', which is 32-bit in 32-bit mode.

test: fix grab mode value tests for new XIGrabModeTouch

This test checks that last-valid-mode + 1 returns a BadValue. With the
addition of XIGrabModeTouch, that value has changed - sync it up again.

Bug#653018: xorg: X segfaults when I launch Emacs

2011-12-22 Thread David Caldwell
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.6+10
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Everytime I launch Emacs, X segfaults. I tried to grab a stack trace
with GDB but there were no symbols so all I got was:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x7f8e125493f1 in ?? ()
(gdb) where
#0 0x7f8e125493f1 in ?? ()
#1 0x7f8e14f88440 in ?? ()
#2 0x7f8e1254a065 in ?? ()
#3 0x0055 in ?? ()
#4 0x7f8e1254d286 in ?? ()
#5 0x7f8e14fab110 in ?? ()
#6 0x in ?? ()

I still get no symbols even after installing xserver-xorg-core-dbg. I'd
love to get a better stack trace for you--Is there something else I
need to do to get symbols out of it?

I'm using the nvidia binary driver version 290.10-1 built with
module-assistant for the Debian 2.6.38-5 kernel.

-David

That would be great. As a side note, I did update locally nouveau (*).

As usual when it comes to X drivers, you probably want new:
 - kernel,
 - libdrm.

If you want to use OpenGL programs with nouveau (or the onboard Intel
graphics), you need to get rid of the NVidia files.

closing that bug since backported packages aren't supported by or
through the BTS. Maybe I'll manage to prepare backports for xserver
1.11 with updated major drivers (including nouveau), which might help.

I'm still unsure we want to replace 1.10 with 1.11 in squeeze-backports

When the console turns black, is the machine still usable? (For example,
can you use ctrl-alt-delete to reboot?) Please also check whether booting
in "recovery mode" with xserver-xorg-video-intel installed works.

If it does, please get "dmesg" output and output from

/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-video-intel/script 3>&1

after booting and reproducing the problem. It should be possible to
get this information by either "driving blind" or ssh-ing in from
another machine.

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan
