In Mesa git master it has been replaced by a different driver that will hopefully be better. For now it is recommended to use Nvidia's 173xx legacy driver if you want to play 3D games. Handle unknown device classes.
If the server sends an unknown device class in response to an XIQueryDevice
call, no memory is allocated for these classes but we still write type
and sourceid as well as setting to-classes[i]. The latter causes multiple
classes to point to the same memory field.
Move the common code of assigning these three into the respective class type
handlers so to automatically skip any unknown classes.

Do you have any clues what could have changed in SID? Maybe a change in xinit? I am pretty sure, that i only had installed the core package and was able to start the server via xinit. I am doing something fairly stupid, I use the graphics driver from nvidia's page, and i do not want to have the xserver-xorg-video-all package installed. Thanks to the xorg-driver-video Provides in video drivers (ditto with s/video/input/g).
