Would it be acceptable to add it to a shell script instead?

Thank you for replying fast Cyril. Saw this
http://blog.mraw.org/2012/05/01/DXN-11/ and these in particular :-

"Unlike shared libraries, there’s no old and new library packages
(old+new SONAME); instead, the server itself provides different
packages (because of the different input and video ABI). That means
that drivers won’t be installable until they are rebuilt against the
new server. Usually, we’re talking about a few dinstall runs, meaning
less than a day. "

Installations are broken! Well, that’s unstable, and you probably know
installability-related issues are trivially solved by pulling packages
from testing when needed. This is such a case

So just have to wait it out I guess. Also read the bit about the
wayland and saw the changelog as well.

/usr/share/doc/libwayland0$ zcat changelog.Debian.gz | less

wayland (0.85.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Wayland/Weston aren't quite ready to replace Xorg yet, but let's
upload those to unstable anyway, so that people can find out by
themselves. On the plus side, mesa can stop getting wayland support
enabled in experimental, then disabled back when uploaded to unstable.
  * Update long description, wayland-demos got replaced by weston.

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.

The version of this package that was in Debian prior to this removal
can still be found using http://snapshot.debian.org/.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 671...@bugs.debian.org.

Hello.

libXi can cause heap corruption if it receices unknown device classes
in input devices, as it does not allocate any space to unknown classes,
yet it stores type and ID information of that class. If the unknown classes
are at the end of the list, 8 bytes following the allocated class info
block are corrupted.

This behaviour is observable with current X servers in experimental. As
heap corruption is a security problem (malign X servers could try to exploit
client code using Xinput2), fixing this bug might be eligible for a stable
update.

Commit
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libXi/commit/?id=635c2c029b1e73311c3f650bcaf7eeb9e782134b
fixes the problem and applies (with offset and fuzz, though).

  Michael Karcher

unstable: in some games xserver-xorg-input-mouse mousewheel doesn't work while moving the mouse

2012-05-03 Thread Dirk

Hello,

after an update that was within the last 2-3 days the mousewheel stopped
working when the mouse was moved at the same time in a game (quake3)...

i downgraded xserver-xorg-input-mouse (and depending packages) to
squeeze to fix it..

that also downgraded the other input packages and some mesa-dri package..

but now it works.. just wanted to tell that..

The video drivers listed in $subject use {in,out}{b,w,l} functions,
which the X server no longer provides on ia64.

I'm very much not in favour of adding such complexity to maintainer
scripts.

Well i looked over it again and it seems that xserver-xorg was installed.

And here my solution for the startx script ... i am not sure where to
put it.
(The file looks a bit broken with all those empty lines and id use $()
instead of backticks but it seems to work so i guess it is ok:)

Bug#671309: xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.12.1-1 in unstable (low) dependency problem, doesn't allow xserver-xorg-video-all to install

2012-05-03 Thread Ulsigem
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.12.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Did a fresh install of Debian for my desktop computer. Tried to install desktop
with:
apt-get install task-desktop
Dependency problems arose with xserver-xorg-video-all that did not allow the
package to install.

[task-desktop] depends on [xserver-xorg-video-all]

[xserver-xorg-video-all] depends on [xserver-xorg-core]

[xserver-xorg-video-all] depends on [xserver-xorg-video-s3virge] AND [xserver-
xorg-video-tdfx]

[xserver-xorg-video-s3virge] AND [xserver-xorg-video-tdfx] depends on [xorg-
video-abi-11] (which is a virtual package)

[xserver-xorg-core] provided virtual package before, but not anymore, instead
provides [xorg-video-abi-12] but no [xorg-video-abi-11]

Due to this dependency problem [task-desktop] will not install.

xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.12.1-1 in unstable (low) is a relatively new package
introduced to unstable on May 1, 2012 according to
http://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xorg-server.html

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I ran tasksel and chose debian desktop choice, rebooted. No GUI display manager
was installed. Installed gdm3 and rebooted into gnome-shell and graphical
desktop.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected task-desktop to install, but failed with dependency problems.
Tasksel installed a majority of the system but failed to install gdm3 or
graphical user interface.

Thank you kindly.

No bug report, since the release team knows the xorg team very well (and
vice versa), and bug reports would mean overhead.
