If I load a file it may start off showing some or all of the text normally, but when I move the cursor over it, or scroll, it disappears. All syntax modes seem to be affected, and running with -U NONE -N gave the same symptoms. vim-gnome is also affected. I happened to notice that if I load files containing the GPL, the phrase MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE (nearly) always stands out ie printed normally while surrounding text is invisible. While selecting that piece of text with the mouse to paste it here it became invisible with a grey background, but all the surrounding text that fitted within that screen suddenly appeared. -- Package-specific info: --- real paths of main Vim binaries --- /usr/bin/vi is /usr/bin/vim.gnome /usr/bin/vim is /usr/bin/vim.gnome /usr/bin/gvim is /usr/bin/vim.gtk -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages vim-gtk depends on: ii libacl1 2.2.51-5 ii libc6 2.13-27 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.0-2 ii libglib2.0-02.32.0-3 ii libgpm2 1.20.4-4 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-1 ii libice6 2:1.0.7-2 ii liblua5.1-0 5.1.5-1 ii libpango1.0-0 1.30.0-1 ii libperl5.14 5.14.2-9 ii libpython2.72.7.3~rc2-1 ii libruby1.8 1.8.7.352-2 ii libselinux1 2.1.9-4 ii libsm6 2:1.2.0-2 ii libtinfo5 5.9-5 ii libx11-62:1.4.4-4 ii libxt6 1:1.1.1-2 ii tcl8.5 8.5.11-1 ii vim-common 2:7.3.429-2 ii vim-gui-common 2:7.3.429-2 ii vim-runtime 2:7.3.429-2 vim-gtk recommends no packages. I am not entirely sure whether this is the correct package, but since libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 is a common dependency for all of the applications where I experience the issue, this is my best guess. Here is a screenshot where the issue is visible: https://wensveen.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/screenshot-from-2012-04-16-085408.png Usually the problems begin when I open my GMAIL in iceweasel, but the same happens with epiphany. Text is illegible and while moving the mouse cursor around (on redraws caused by css, probably) or scrolling, other text becomes illegible too, but some text turns normal. When this happens, other text in applications like gnome-terminal get garbled as well, as is visible in the screenshot. Sometimes, window titles are affected as well. However, text in Qt applications (such as konqueror) are not affected. Nor is text in java applications (such as PS3 Media Server). Unfortunately I can't pinpoint the moment when this started happening, but I think this has been happening for at least a month. At first I thought it had something to do with the video driver (xserver-xorg-video-radeon), but since only GNOME applications are affected, I ruled this possibility out (or at least highly improbable). Please let me know if you need any further information. Using nouveau with multiple monitors (although I don't think that it is related to that) Text very frequently gets corrupted, but images, video and 3d are not affected. This mostly occurs when using iceweasel and gnome-terminal, but evolution is also affected. When this happens, selecting the text or scrolling so it leaves the visible screen, appears to re-render it with the effect that the distortion changes, making it readable from time to time. When taking a screenshot, the corruption dissapears, but might re-appear after the text left the visible screen (a window that comes over it or scrolling. It doesn't occur with all text, usually only part of a sentence or a couple of lines. Good text can get corrupted again after selecting affected text. The problem doesn't occur when using the nvidia binary blob. My graphics card is a GForce 9800 GT. It also doesn't occur on my laptop with a GF8400M GS card. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libdrm-nouveau1a depends on: ii libc6 2.13-33 ii libdrm22.4.33-1 ii multiarch-support 2.13-33 libdrm-nouveau1a recommends no packages. libdrm-nouveau1a suggests no packages. -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: xorg-server Source-Version: 2:1.12.4-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of xorg-server, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Now it cant be restored even if resized:/ In terminal i have to get the cursor over each letter to make it appear (background changes from black to white on cursor) and on chromium the tabs have no titles:/ Yes, that happened because the wrong patch was applied in xserver-xorg-core 2:1.12.4-2. Can you please upgrade to 2:1.12.4-3 and retry? Should i open a new bug? No, that's not necessary. Thanks for your help, and sorry for the inconvenience. Bug#608133: nouveau: severe display corruption on NV4E on machines with 2G RAM
Control: reassign -1 src:linux Control: affects -1 xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Control: retitle -1 nouveau: NV4E acceleration corruption when DMA above 31-bit (2 Gig barrier) Control: forwarded -1 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46557 For those who don't want to read the whole bug log: this bug is about severe display corruption for those cursed with an Nvidia NV4E (GeForce 6100/6150) graphics chip under two conditions: - The machine has more than 2 Gigabyte RAM. - A 64-bit kernel is used. In this case, the machine is unusable with nouveau unless memory is restricted to 2 Gigabyte (mem=2G) or acceleration is disabled (nouveau.noaccel=1). For details, see the upstream bug on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46557. Cheers, Sven -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
