Bug#726962: #726962: startx(1): Macro '..' is not defined in the manual and some formatting improvements

2014-04-13 Thread Robert Luberda
I've just encountered the same issue with undefined macro and then
noticed that the startx man page contains some text,
added in
http://sources.debian.net/src/xinit/1.3.2-1/debian/patches/03_debian_startx_manpage.diff
that is not displayed by man:

  startx -- -dpi 100

  startx -- -layout Multihead

To determine the client to run, startx first looks for a file called
.xinitrc in the user's home directory. If that is not found, it uses

The paragraph starting with Note that in the Debian system, what many people
traditionally...
is not added before the To determine the client...

Regards,
robert

package: xserver-xfbdev
version: 2:1.7.7-13

I have installed on my small laptop xfbdev xserver, because the xorg xserver
does not work on my system. I have changed the link /usr/bin/X to
/usr/bin/Xfbdev (the same /etc/X11/X to /usr/bin/Xfbdev) then i have edit
the /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc script just including the following:

exec /usr/bin/X -screen 800x600x16 -mouse ps2 -keybd keyboard -nolisten tcp $@

When server start, all works good but no keyboard, just i see on screen the
following message:

DRIVER LINUX CONSOLE KEYBOARD WANTED

What does mean it? Does it want a package to work properly?
Wich package?
I have tried also to start it with my keyboard driver (i think):

exec /usr/bin/X -screen 800x600x16 -mouse ps2 -keybd pc102 -nolisten tcp $@

but i was not able to resolve the question.

I use Debian Squeeze with generic 2.6-i686 kernel on a small laptop
panasonic CF-M34 with 4mb video ram and svga screen.

Increase UNIX socket buffer size

Some systems provide a really small default buffer size for UNIX sockets.
Bump it up to 64k if necessary such that large transfers (such as
XGetImage() on a 8-megapixel image) don't take tens of seconds.

configure: Also add -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE to .pc cflags to shut up glibc
warnings

The latest glibc considers _BSD_SOURCE deprecated, leading to the following
warning being issued for pretty much every C-file in the xserver:

In file included from /usr/include/stdint.h:25:0,
 from
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.8.2/include/stdint.h:9,
 from ../include/misc.h:81,

_SVID_SOURCE are deprecated, use _DEFAULT_SOURCE [-Wcpp]
 # warning _BSD_SOURCE and _SVID_SOURCE are deprecated, use
_DEFAULT_SOURCE
   ^

I've discussed this with the glibc developers and the prefered way of fixing
this is by also defining _DEFAULT_SOURCE which is the new way of stating
_BSD_SOURCE / _SVID_SOURCE .

Bug#744695: x11-common: Xsession.options should accomodate .xsessionrc by default

2014-04-13 Thread Brian Potkin
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.7+7
Severity: normal
tags: security

The introduction of $HOME/.xsessionrc was occasioned by #411639:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=411639

$HOME/.Xresources and $HOME/.xsession are catered for in Xsession.options
so there would appear to be a need for (no-)allow-user-xsessionrc if only
for completeness. It is also possible to evade the restrictions of
no-allow-user-resources and no-allow-user-xsession with suitable entries
in $HOME/.xsessionrc, making this option more desirable.

Regards,

Brian.
