Bug#762978: xterm: On-Click selection now selects random ares, not things under the cursor

2014-09-26 Thread Sven-Haegar Koch
Package: xterm
Version: 311-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Since the last xterm update (311) selection on click/doubleclick
does not work correctly anymore.

I am using the following ~/.Xresources settings since years which always
worked correctly, until now:

XTerm*on2Clicks: regex [^/@ \n]+
XTerm*on3Clicks: regex [^ \n]+
XTerm*on4Clicks: regex [^#$]+
XTerm*on5Clicks: line

For example of the missbehaviour:

Line: haegar@aurora:~$ less .Xresources
Double click on .Xresources:
Selection expected: ^^^
Selection now: ^
Double click on less:
Selection expected:
Selection now: ^^^

(Yes, it now selects .Xresources, if I click on the word before)

Greetings
Haegar

Bug#762988: xserver-xorg-core: clicks to root window are flakey

2014-09-26 Thread Samuel Bronson
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.16.0.901-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I'm having a strange problem with clicks on the root window.

Often, clicking on the root window fails to generate the appropriate
events. This causes severe problems with those traditional WMs where
most of the UI is in a menu normally reached by clicking on the root
window.

The worst part: sometimes it *does* work.

I *think* that messing with the xrandr configjuration is an one of the
things that affects this, but I can't swear to it, and it's not anything
nearly so simple as works before adding a second monitor. (So much
for the idea that it had something to do with non-rectangular display
layouts.)

Sorry I can't be more specific about what's going wrong, but it could be
relevant that my CPU is an Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3220 @ 3.00GHz,
since, as I understand it, my GPU is in there somewhere too.

hmm - H.Merijn Brand had a similar comment last weekend (did not mention
regex), but I was not able to reproduce his report.

With regex, I did fix an error - which may have introduced a different bug.
(will investigate/fix/etc).

Bug#762993: xserver-xorg-video-intel: LVDS display blanks when DP is plugged in

2014-09-26 Thread Andrew Perrin
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.21.15-2+b2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Plugging a mini-DP to VGA dongle into the mini-DP port on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

The regular laptop screen goes blank. SOMETIMES repeatedly pressing Fn-F7
rotates to getting one or the other screen to work.
Using Gnome settings to arrange displays in that case causes the system to
hang. Using xrandr --output DP1 --same-as LVDS1
SOMETIMES works to make the two screens clones.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Plugging the miniDP dongle should bring both screens on by default, either as
clones or arranged side-by-side.

Bug#653079: xorg: Xorg fails to initialize in testing branch on Radeon

2014-09-26 Thread Afif Elghraoui
I should also add that this bug report (#653079) didn't come up when I
was doing my web searches. I also did not notice that the bug was
several years old until immediately after I posted my report. I did not
experience this problem while running Wheezy, so it appears to me to be
a new problem. It is a severe problem since the machine is no longer
practically usable without the graphical interface and I have not been
able to find a workaround on Jessie.

xserver-xorg-video-all has a Depends on all the other video drivers; why
not have a Depends on xserver-xorg-video-qxl (as requested in this bug)
 rather than a Recommends?

Because the qxl driver package is essentially unmaintained, I had to fix
it, and I don't want to have to do that again.

Bug#762999: xorg: X fails to initialize - no screens found

2014-09-26 Thread Afif Elghraoui

Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.7+7
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
After executing dist-upgrade to move from Wheezy to Jessie, I am
faced with the text login prompt

   rather than kdm.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I tried running startx from the command line, which resulted in a
fatal server error: no screens found.
I tried booting witht he backported kernel I was using under Wheezy
(linux-image-3.14-0.bpo.2-amd64).
   I tried (with the default Jessie kernel) sudo modprobe radeon;
startx. The result was an error saying

xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused

The system in this state is unusable for practical purposes. I have
not been able to find a workaround. Furthermore, this is a problem that
I did not encounter in Wheezy and appears to be a regression.

hmm - H.Merijn Brand had a similar comment last weekend (did not mention
regex), but I was not able to reproduce his report.

With regex, I did fix an error - which may have introduced a different bug.
 (will investigate/fix/etc).

I'll put out a #312 this weekend (want to check on a different report).

Thank You!

I confirm this patch fixes my problem.

Took the xterm 311 package source, added the patch to debian/patches,
rebuilt package, installed, xterm restarted - works.
