Bug#814313: xorg-server: Using systemd and startx, input does not work anymore

It would have been better to report the bug against the
xserver-xorg-core binary package, since that includes necessary
information from the bug script which is missing from your report.

My hunch is that the fix[1] for upstream bug #92894[2] has triggered
this breakage. If I read the code in xorg-wrapper.c correctly, the
version from 1.18.0 would not actually drop root rights even if you have
a KMS driver for your video card(s). Now the KMS detection actually
works, and if you have a kernel graphics driver the wrapper drops root
rights meaning that you _must_ have a working systemd-logind to grant X
access to your input devices.

Do you have libpam-systemd installed?

Cheers,
   Sven

Looks like an X server issue to me. Thus reassigning.

Please followup up with the exact version of xserver-xorg-core and the
driver (version) you are using.
Steps how to reproduce this issue will be helpful for the X maintainers
as well.

Bug#814394: xserver-xorg-legacy: Fails to start xserver after upgrade to 1.18.1

2016-02-10 Thread Robert Luberda
Package: xserver-xorg-legacy
Version: 2:1.18.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: makes the package unusable

startx does not longer work after upgrade; `grep EE Xorg.log' shows:

Please note that for some reason the log file was created in my $HOME.

After downgrading xserver-xorg-legacy to 2:1.18.0-3 X server starts as
usual, and makes its log file in /var/log directory.

udev: fix ALPS firmware detection

The firmware version is in id.version, not id.model which is always
PSMOUSE_ALPS for ALPS devices.

The various fw versions are listed in /drivers/input/mouse/alps.h
and
are all hex numbers. Version 8 is actually 0x800, change the match

Bug#814313: xorg-server: Using systemd and startx, input does not work anymore

2016-02-10 Thread Guillem Jover
Source: xorg-server
Source-Version: 2:1.18.1-1
Severity: important

Hi!

I just logged out and started X again, and no input was working any
longer (builtin mouse and keyboard, nor hotplugged USB mouse).

On this specific machine I'm using systemd, and I'm starting the X
server using startx from a Linux console. I've also got the
xserver-xorg-legacy package installed.

I've bisected the packages and it seems this regression got introduced
in 2:1.18.1-1, as 2:1.18.0-3 works perfectly fine.

I've diffed the Xorg.N.log{.old,} files (after stripping the timestamps)
and there's no relevant difference.

Thanks,
Guillem
