Hi Peter! Looking at the not complete backtraces (the i965_dri one misses the
i965_dri 's debugging symbols and there is not a complete nouveau backtrace)
it really seems a bug on those two drivers, not in Qt itself.

Googling a little it seems that the [bug] is in libgl1-mesa-dri, at least for
the intel case. There might be a separate issue with nouveau.

[bug]

I'm so reassigning this one to libgl1-mesa-dri and CCing Debian's X strike
force.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Bug#832993: xserver-xorg: X clients run but don't display (invisible), Intel graphics

2016-07-30 Thread Akkana Peck
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+16
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

As of the latest X update on testing, X runs, the window manager
openbox and the few clients in its autostart file run; but anything
run subsequently, once X is running, is invisible.

For instance, I have an xterm in autostart. If I run another xterm
from the command line there, there's a brief and subtle flash of the
display, but nothing appears. I don't get my prompt back (unless I
^Z or ^C to stop or interrupt xterm), and if I ^Z/bg ps shows it's
running, but it isn't displaying anywhere. Same for other apps like
firefox.

No errors show up on stdout/stderr for the server when I run new
clients, or in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

The upgrade that pulled this in warned me about the new built-in
modesetting video driver:

| If this triggers new bugs on your hw, please file them
| against the xserver.
|
| Continuing to use the -intel driver is possible by dropping the template
| xorg.conf to /etc/X11:
|
| # cp /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf /etc/X11

With xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf in place in /etc/X11,
everything seems back to normal. But the new default modesetting
driver doesn't seem to work at all.

Hardware is a Lenovo X201 with Intel graphics; dmesg and Xorg.0.log
just call it an "Intel HD Graphics Chipset".
I'm happy to post more info on the video hardware if you tell me
what you need and how to gather it.
